  1. Buy American and get the Savage. With the Accu Trigger and the Accu Stock the Savage will be more acurate than the Tikka. Tikka is an economy grade Sako. :gun2:
  2. Mine is because my name is bob and I love to hunt. :gun2:
  3. You can buy elastic cord for your scpoe covers at fabric stores. I think Walmart sells it too in their fabric department.
  4. Marlin makes a couple of Reasonably priced 22's with magazines that can be scoped. They don't cost much and are fun to shot. Another option is Reminton used to make a great 22 with a magazine. It was a model 581 and can easily be found on the gun auction sites. :gun2:
  5. Sorry to hear you had to make that decision. It was the right one. Can't let the dog suffer. You have my sympathy
  6. I would go with the Remington 700 CDL in 270. Has to be the best deer rig in the world. :gun2:
  7. IMHO the Wheatherby Mark V is way over rated and way over priced. Not to mention how much the ammo costs. The Remington CDL is as close to perfect as factory rifles get. I don't think I would buy the limited edition model. I would just go with the standard CDL in a caliber you are comfortable with. I agree with the above. Guns are not a good investment. They are easy to turn into quick cash but you never get what you pay for them. :gun2:
  8. I have a Taurus 85 and a CZ 83. They are about the same size and weight. The 85 holds 5 rounds of 38 special. The 83 holds 12 rounds of 380. Plus a magazine loads a lot faster than a speed loader. I still can't decide which one I like better. :gun2:
  9. Remington 700 in 300 Win Mag. Add a Nikon Prosport 3 x 9 and yoour set.
  10. With a 50MM objective there is a small chance medium rings will be high enough. If you can it might be worth you time to see if mediums will work. The lower you get the scope the better. :gun2:
  11. I have two of them. I've only had them a year or so. Haven't shot the rifles enough to know how they will hold up. They seem fine so far. :gun2:
  12. The only difference between the barrels on the wingmaster and the express is the finish. The blueing on express barrels is not as nice. Unless you have a wingmaster with the light contour barrel. In which case the express barrel will still fit but you might have to remove a little wood from the forearm.
  13. Hunt or be Hunted sent me a very nice set with Tree steps, a bow hanger, and a rope for raisinig and lowering my bow from the stand. Very Cool gift Thank you.
  14. I'd go with the 25-06 just because it is something a little different. Nothing wrong with the 308 but there are a lot of them out there.
  15. For some reason none of your pictures showed up. Could you explain in a little more detail how you did. the webbing. I'm not familiar with the spoon method.
  16. Reguardless of what your states regs are, 357 mag should be the smallest caliber you consider for hunting deer. The best load would be a 158 gr. Softpoint. Avoid hollow point bullets in this small caliber. They just expand to quickly. If you go with a larger caliber such as a 41 or 44 mag, hollow points could be considered. However, I would still stay with the soft points myself. They tend to penetrate farther.
  17. Like everything with deer there is never any right or wrong. However, dropping in December is unusual. They should normally start dropping about the end of January beginning of Febuary. If they are dropping early somethiing unusual is going on. Possibily no more does in heat. That causes a drop in testorone in the bucks and that causes the antlers to drop. Usually some of the younger does or unbred does will come into heat again in December. Bucks dropping antlers could be an indication of low doe numbers in your area. Along with about twenty other thiigs. Poor nutrition, extremly stressful rut. So the final answer is that it is not normal.
  18. The .308 is like vanilla ice cream. There are lots of different things you can do with it if you want to. It's not glamourous or sexy but it will get the job done. It won't turn any heads at deer camp but it puts meat on the pole every year. It is the caliber of choice for thousands of sniper rifles in military and police units. Finally the three greatest battle rifles ever built were chambered for the .308. The HK G3, FN FAL and the M-14. :gun2:
  19. Bushnell makes a no frills GPS that can get you to where you want to go and back. It is called the Backtracker and costs about $70.00. If you had one of those you would have missed out on a great story though. :gun2:
  20. A 2" 20 round group from inexperienced shooters is better than pretty good. With that many shots you would expect at least three or four flyers. Plus I think the shooters must be better than inexperienced to accopmplish a feat like that. I think your being modest. :gun2:
  21. I got no problem taking shots out to 300 yards or farther. -------- I've never shot anything past 150 yards. I'm just a real poor judge of distance. :gun2:
