Scent control is more important than the camo you wear. Spend your money on scent control and just sit still. Any camo will work.

I have an Encore barrel in 25-06 it shoots just fine. These aren't bench rest rifles.I'm sure yours will be just fine.

I just bought one and it is great. It is acurate. Has a built in digital compass and is so easy to use. You don't need a degree in electronical engineering to use it.

Check the gun Shops Yes they are having a terrible time selling them. Go into just about any gun shop and you will find them on clearence. Every banquet or gun raffle I've seen has had one. The shops are trying to get rid of them any way they can. If you are really interested in a trade I would need more info on the Springfield. What model and accesories does it have. I'm sure I could come up with a savage 110 that would be a big improvement over what you have and you still wouldn't have to worry about beating it up.

30-06 gets the nod If you really must hunt grizzlies with this rifle than I would definatly choose the 30-06. I would also make sure That I was using premium bullets such as Nosler Partions or Barnes X bullets.

Your all missing something. Encores are known for having weak hammer springs. I have one and it would not shoot any 25-06 ammo everytime. I sent it back to Thompson Center they said nothing was wrong with it. I finally had to get an after market hammer spring that was stiffer. Problem solved, now it is one of my favorite rifles.

Do it right It is really more complicated than redgreen makes it sound. First remove all the old finish. This can be done with either chemical stripper or sand it off. Either way use a fine grit sand paper as you finish. After sanding you must raise the grain of the wood. To do this mix alcohol and water and completely coat the stock. Apply heat, I find a propane torch works well. Be careful not to burn the stock. The stock will feel rough, you can feel the wood grains have risen. Then rub it down with the new syntetic sanding pads. They do not leave pieces of metal imbedded in the wood like steel wool does. Repeat this several times until the grain can no longer be raised. You can tell you are done cause the stock will be smooth to the touch. If you plan on staining the stock do it now. Next you need to seal the grain. I find that Brichwood caseys stock sealer works well. this will then again have to be rubbed down with the sanding pads. Finally Birchwood Caseys Tru Oil finish should be applyed. It works much better than pure linseed. It dries faster and gives you a more rugged finish. Several coates are needed and each one should be rubbed into the stock. Finally you can adjust the final feel and gloss of the finish by rubbing it with rotten stone untill the desired finish is reached.
