Check out the Diamond bows by Bowtech. They are high quality and depending on what model you get can be very affordable. They are just as good if not better than matthews or hoyt, but they are less expensive. They are also easily adjustable for your specific draw length or draw weight. When I started out I bought a used PSE. The first time out bowhunting I was hooked. After my first season, after I knew I would be a bowhunter for life, I decided to get a new high quality bow that was set up for me, which was the Diamond Justice. I wouldn't argue against trying out a used bow first to see if you like it, but if your like most people that try bowhunting, you will be hooked right away, so getting a new bow right away if you find a good deal isn't a bad thing. Also you can always change rests, sights, etc etc on your bow, so if you get it set up and decide you don't like something you can change it without getting a whole new bow. The packages that you can get aren't a bad deal either, but the rests and sights are usually not the highest quality. hope this helps and good luck

trail cams are helpful, if nothing else you can figure if they are moving at night. Hang in there i've had bad seasons before too.

does your gun season start this weekend? all i'm saying is that it seems to me this should be done before the rut begins when there will be many people in the woods bow hunting, seems silly to wait till the last minute.

So tonight I was out bowhunting in hopes of getting the big guy i've been seeing before our gun season starts on Saturday. Was in the stand about 20 min when I started hearing gun shots. Yup some idiots waited until 2 days before gun season to sight in their guns. I gun hunt too so i'm not against gun hunting, I just prefer to bow hunt. Anyway, these idiots were shooting in the direction of the woods where I was so I got down and yelled in their direction and they just kept shooting. I could actually hear the bullets going into the brush. I went and talked to them later and they didn't seem to even care at all. It just makes me mad that I put a lot of time and effort into bow hunting and it seems like a lot of gun hunters just show up and ruin stuff. Sorry to be so negative, its just irritating.

Buffalo County, Wi is the top Whitetail County in the country. I'd hunt there over anywhere in Iowa or Illinois any day.

I completely agree, I live between Madison and Janesville. I didn't even go out today. I've had a nice buck stopping at a scrape by my stand everyday and I have a Trail Cam up over it and since it has warmed up the past couple of days he's been a no show in photos. I'll Take the 40 degree weather any day over this crap.

yea, i wasn't planning on taking him if i got the chance when i saw him yesterday he was about 60 yds away. I only have one buck tag left right now, and there is a much bigger deer that i'm after.

sorry about the size of the pics

Back in July I got some pictures of a buck in velvet that only had one side of his antlers. I speculated that he either had something wrong genetically or he had had some kind of accident, or maybe something else. I wondered if since he was in velvet if he would start growing back the missing side. Anyway I finally got another picture of him recently and I saw him while I was hunting last night, and if it is him (which i'm pretty sure it is) he did start growing the missing side back, so i'm guessing he just had some kind of accident. Anyway let me know if you think it is the same deer in the pictures, I know they aren't of the best angles, I would buy a better camera, but i'd rather have the nice bow that I have.

I got my first deer this year with a bow too, and then I shot a buck a couple weeks ago with my bow, there is something special about taking a deer with a bow. Nice job.

I have both Scent-Blocker and Scent-Lok. The blocker I have is more heavy weight clothing and the Lok is lighter weight. I prefer the Scent-Lok over the Scent Blocker though. I think it is more quiet and more comfortable. I also wear a base layer that is suppose to help with scent control. I wash all of my stuff in Scent-Blocker laundry detergent and then according the directions on the clothes you through them in the dryer which activates the carbon (I recommend a drier bag otherwise you got little black particles all over). I do wear the Scent-Blocker knee high boots which are awesome in my opinion. I use the Primos earth scent eliminator which I think is great stuff. I haven't had any deer bust me at all this year and to top it off I never even worry about the wind at all. It is expensive, but what isn't expensive as far as bow-hunting goes? I would seriously recommend getting some scent-lok or blocker clothes, in my opinion its the difference in getting a deer or not.

actually I have a pretty short draw length, I can't remember what it is for sure though, It was a couple of years ago that I had my bow set up for my draw length and what not, but I will look into the knock pinching issue. Thanks.

Its a quick tune drop away thats all i know right off hand i'll have to look at it closer, It has fallen off before when practicing, but i think only once, maybe it is falling off more when i see deer cuz i'm shaking so bad hahaha

thanks for the input, it'll help me make my decision when I go to get a new one

there are those new Whisker Biscuit type rests made by Octane that are pretty open, I was thinking about trying that out, but I like those Ultra-Rest drop aways that are covered. Does anyone use the Octane Hostage rest?

I have a drop away arrow rest and twice this year already while i was drawing back the arrow jumped and fell of the rest. I had to let the string back down, put the arrow on and draw back again. Lucky for me both times I was still able to drop a deer, the first time a doe (first deer with a bow) the second a six point. I consider myself very lucky. Has anyone else had this problem and are there any suggestion for a solution. I know the solution for next year will probably be a whisker biscuit, but i'm going to be awfully upset if a big guy walks out and the arrow falls off when I draw back and he runs away.

what do the people who use the thermascents think about just getting the pads and using them on a regular thermacell?
-
probably a bit of a weird question but what year and package is that s-10 blazzer/jimmy i've been looking for one that has the fold down tailgate instead of the kind where the whole hatch open up into the air.

no good In my opinion they are a waste of money. I tried using them about 2 years ago and had no luck. They are pretty much a one shot deal and they are rather expensive if you ask me. When I used them I saw absolutely no deer. I have used tinks #69 and have had much more luck. Don't waste your money on the buck bombs, try out tinks.

I'm sure pre-rut has begun. I've seen several rubs and scrapes so i decided to do a little rattling and grunting when I went out last tuesday. I ended up shooting a 6 point about 15 min before dark. It was my first buck with a bow, now that its out of the way I can be more picky. I plan on going out this afternoon and trying some more rattling and grunting, but going lightly on it.

The land that I primarily hunt on is about 55 acres, half of it is timber and the other half is prairie. The land owner has trails through the prairie and they have a wagon that they pull with a Kubota RTV and give prairie rides. Does anyone think this bothers deer? I try not to mess around in the woods a hole lot. I get my stands up and things ready and then pretty much stay out. Some people tell me that the deer are probably use to the kubota noise and that shouldn't bother them? Anyone have any thoughts?
