how do you like the pro hunter besides that.i guess really the trigger means alot in a gun.my wife bought me the new mossberg 4x4 270 and when i first shot it i hated it the trigger was really hard to squeeze.so i went and bought a box of shells and fired em all in a couple hrs and that took car of it.

25-06 is a nice weapon of choice.up here in maine that is all the big guys hunt with.they believe it or not even use them for hunting moose.sorry to hear about you devastation though god will make an even better oppertunity for you though.HAPPY HUNTING

its 5 am am going to see if i can close the deal on my buck today.there is a couple inches of snow this morn so should be pretty easy.

my wife and i live in northern maine.it is great.but you got to like the winters.you should really check into it.the deer are huge, moose are plentyful.and the fishing is top notch.best of all the living here in maine is cheap.I'm a crane operator and make 70,000 and my wife is a tribal clerk for the maliseet indian tribe and makes a low ball 25,000 we have three children 10,5,2.We live a pretty good middle class lifestyle.a couple in amine making 50,000 combined income could do really well.believe me it is beautyful here in maine.

Far as the other aspect of this with road hunting, dont know your regs, but a recent post of yours here, seems you said it was ok so long as it was field roads? ya it is ok to shoot from gravel roads, field roads,ect...but the point i was making was in maine you have to be totally out of the vehicle and in no way can you use the vehical for a rest for your weapon, also his family tagging out his deer is illegal in maine you can only have one deer per year and it has to be a buck, you can get a doe if you get your name in a drawing and then that is all you can get 1 deer.me my whole family is involved and they all shoot at the range with me every sunday,if they don't hunt they don't get their deer plain and simple.I know my thread last wk was kinda fast put and maybe i should have said it a little more clearer, but i believe in fair chase and thats why i got so furiated at me being called a poacher and if i was i would desrve all the critasisam. How many deer can you get i other states??Am looking to go hunt somewhere out of state after i finally get my deer!!

i have mixed feelings about this one.i confronted a guy yesterday about his hunting practices. My beef is he has a big family and he shoots all the deer and his family tags out.he's one of them heater hunters who if see a deer in a field he pulls over opens the door leens over the hood and deer dies.why can't he track them, find the trails, watch were there bedding and hunt one the sportsman way.agree or not the fun of hunting is the preparation of your stand,blind,etc..watching and waiting for the big one

i agree john last yr i hit one right about the sme spot but was a little to the right.the only benifit was it was a close range shot with a 270.it hit him in the shoulder bone and didn't bleed out much at all.we found some main trails and kept branching off them were the thick stuff was.we ended up finding him in a dead huge blowdown looked like he dove in under it for cover.again happy trackin and hope you find him i know it sucks when you lose a trophy, but the saying goes good guys finish first and buy talking to ya your one of them so i'm confident it will pan out for you!!!:)

never have how many deer can you get in a season?just wondering cuz some places i've heard you can get more than one!!! -
i usually go with what the land owner wants and if possible i gut it were it lays.my sons and wifes deer this year were shot 100 ft apart in the same field.I dressed them in the field.my sons deer we found in the woods about 125 yrds from were he shot it(never seen a deer die so hard).it got pretty dark so we drug him out so we could use the truck for lights, and the woods was pretty thick were we finally got him to die.wifes dropped right were it was shot and we dressed it right there.so i don't believe it has an affect on the deer.whatever you belive in and if it works for you.

oh better clarify myself.in maine it is illegal to hunt with dogs but if you got a wounded deer after you search for 1 day your permitted to use one to track it but you gotta have a leash
-
well john as you know i had the same thing happen to me and never found the deer.no blood really puts a hurtin on the tracking.I thought for sure we hit that deer.we searched for two days we even had a dog for the second day.we had a beaten trail and lots of signs of deer even the dog couldn't get a trail.good luck sounds to me like you got a good day ahead of you.they say the work begins when you take that first shot.again good luck and happy trails.

my son shot his first deer with a 270 at 225 yrds using a set of shooting sticks.nice 6 pointer weighed 168 lbs his main beem was broke bioligist said could've been a small eight.would you believe my wife shot hers 10 days later about 100 feet away from were my son got his.been a good yr so far hopefully will continue on.here in maine it's known to go a couple yrs and not see a thing.

wow the fourth pic mad me think he was a little bigger than that.but i'm just learning the scoring part of it.can't seem to figure it out perfectly yet.like i said here in maine everybody just cares how its gonna taste on the table.i seem to like the sport of it now it's kinda fun to be involved in evry part of the hunt -
i use a 25-06 with a 107 grain bullet woks great!!!!!!!!happy hunts
-
is that state illegal to have feeders out and does that guy have permision to have his stand there?just wondering why you were mad enough to take his stuff and do you suspect he was the one who poached the other deer.
-
my wife took her first deer yesterday it was a pretty big 3 point spike.he weighed 147 no heart or liver.looked pretty good and gonna taste really good.so my question is were i'm trying to get into the sport aspect of it (not just for food for the freezer) should i feel guilty about taken one that hasn't been able to mature.i really don't want to turn into a head hunter either.I was talking to a friend in pa the other day he said he nows of an incident were a supposably famed hunter gets his trophy keeps the head and throws away the meat cus it don't taste all that great cuz of the size.that to me is not right....
