  1. Hey all, been doing a bit of fishing... she fish and pike on the Yukon yellow Eye rock fish ( similar to snapper )on Prince William sound .. And red ( sockeye) salmon dip netting on the copper river Dip netting is the only way to fish the copper using back eddies and mounts to hold your net in waiting for the bump... we are allowed a personal use quota of 15 and for families 30 fish a year... we filled 4 limits to total 105 fish in 16 hours of dipping in a 26mph current of glacial river. here is a link to my album... fishing 2010 http://www.realtree.com/forums/album.php?albumid=373

  7. i am a meat hunter exclusively, the bull in my avatar was the first legal bull that walked by last year and my largest by far, at 54 inches he is not a monster by any means but netted ~500 lbs of good meat for the freezer. my family of 8 uses on average 2 moose a year, or a moose and 2 caribou when can get to them. all of our hunting is done with ATV, spot and stalk or boats to access areas of the state. i hunt areas with intense compitition from other hunters and fortunately can simply out hunt the rest of them. 23 days hunting last year put three moose and a bear into our camp so far this year we have about 200 lbs of bear meat and i just gathered 30 copper river red salmon and a bunch of pacific Yellow eye rock fish ( similar to red snapper) yielding nearly 250 lbs of fresh fish in the deep freeze ( will post pics when i am not so sore LOL ) for us it is all about the meat, the antlers tend to stack up behind the green house and probably would not make it home except that i am required to, for ADFG verification of antler restrictions. as i can only shoot moose with a Spike / fork on one side... or have 4 brow tines on one side or be larger then 50" wide not to say i don't apply for hunts where i could get a chance at at a trophy worth hanging, but we dont purchase meat from the store so it is my job to bring it home, and the seasons are just not long enough to let one walk...
  8. Thanks nathan.. one thing about summers up in the interior here. is we can pack a lot into them. they sure make up for the 7months of dark winters.. but for some reason the wifes boy is hard to get out of bed! when it is time to go.... :tooth: dang it... i need to teach him how to drink coffee... see ya all next week

  11. Dang it i just got home too..... but alas..... seems my buddy is recovering from his bypass sugery and needs some one to drive his BOAT... headed to Valdez ak... home of the Exxon Valdez spill back before they knew how to clean up like they do now in the gulf.... two days of halibut fishing is on the menu and then off to the copper river for some dip netting... the copper river red salmon run is hitting full force.. and we are allowed 30 per family on a personal use dipnet permit.. summer solstic is comming upon us this next week so no sleep for us... in the land of the mid nite sun... but with all this to do who wants to? we should have this mess all cleaned up by the 4th of july weekend we head off to the mtns of the Alaska range for some high country Grayling fishing then to prepair for our caribou hunt in august and moose in sept.... hope you all are having a great summer... good thing i had not gotten those packers out of the kitchen yet.... all i had to do was put them BACK in the truck... have fun all will post pics as time allows;)

  13. LOL way to go Brother! looks like you did better then us this year we had a way too hot spring with temps pushing over 100 in the direct sun... but here is a few pics of last weekend... on the Yukon river 12 foot zodiak... see that thunder cloud above me... I was racing it.. Man what a storm dumped nearly 6" of water in an hour 8 lb SHE fish my Step son IAN with his first ever His first pike.... I am pretty sure it is BIGGER then the one you guys caught eh?:pop: and the bear it took a month to hook up with... not our largest by far... but Ian's new name is CLICK... can you guess why? thats the sound his rifle makes when he thought he loaded it:1eye: i took my bow for three weeks and never got to draw it.... missed three bears with other guys that missed their shots and a wolf two... Ian and I are now 4/5 hunts successful together sure glad to see you guys hooked up i know how much you were looking forward to it... WAY TO GO BRO... way to go!
  14. I turned 40 April 1, 2008. my wife informed me she was LATE, on Fathers day that year... WTH? was i thinking... well when little one showed up the Next Feb, That problem was done and taken care of. not to say i would not have minded starting out at that age. but i sure did not want to START OVER!. we were just to the point that the kids could all roam with us into the wilds, and start having some adult freedoms again with out the logistical issues of car seats and diaper bags, worrying about creeks, holes, and wandering toddlers... my oldest is 14, my youngest is 2.... my wifes oldest just graduated high school week before last i love and cherish them all.. but dang it.. can't Wait for them to get their own jobs:1eye:
  15. nice bear Tink! we missed a few good ones this last month, but finally was able to connect on a nice meat bear at the end..
  16. LOL to funny, my folks made a similar mistake with baling twine once with a couple of neighbor hood kids, .05 each... she should have told them to stay out of the hay barn LOL!
  17. Whelp! hope you all been behaving ( NOT ) while i was away. spent the last month hunting with short trips home to work in the office for the missus and re supply. FINALLY had a successful moment Sunday evening and will get a hunt report with pics up here soon.. it will be a few days as i have to ( according to the wife) in this order... wash the six inches of mud off the new truck get rid of that stinking pile of laundry find someplace aside from the rear of her green house for that soon to be stinking bear skull get those rafts out of the yard so the lawn will grow put my gear away and find someplace other then the kitchen floor for all my action packers and coolers.. (sigh) anyone else get love like that:crutch:
  18. Hey just got back and seen this post... and yes Interior AK can get " IN THE SUN " temps well over 100 a few times a year with the ambient temps in the mid 80's range.... had a great month.. not many bears but lots of good times...
  19. i spotted our first one two weeks ago... but this is the real deal... momma moose in an Anchorage yard....and it is TWINS http://www.adn.com/cgi-bin/apps/vmix/player.php?ID=14316024
  20. Update skunked this memorial weekend... seen one Griz walking the beach and i floated the other guy down to with in 100 yards of in on the Yukon river... and he Missed...the bear started up the bank as he fired and we double /triple checked for blood but he missed... the funny part was that it was sooooooooo hot.. 114 in the sun on the thermo. that i was out searching for grizzly bears in my boxers (only:jaw:) the skeeters LOVED my but let me tell ya... that night i took my old partner Ray down river to Hess creek 13 mile below the camp... and floated it from where we had to turn around due to shallow water... and got out the pred calls... the primos cat nip did a great job and called in a large jet black wolf..... and at 50 yards... HE MISSED!!!! hit the ground at his feet and spraying him with rocks.... day light 24 / 7 now means night time hunting only as we are in a record heat cycle and lots of fires burning around the state... 101 active fires yesterday... i figure next time i take those two guy out.... I will let the critter eat them.... they may have better luck bagging one IF they have to shoot their ways out..
  21. hey hows every one doing with spring bear... ?????? headed out again tomrrow night for the long weekend will post pics after!!!
  22. Yukon River Cinnimon. taken sunday the 23 13 hours after the bait was set.. my buddy Daniel, was in his stand and seen this guy coming in... 2 shots from the 45/70 did not slow it down... a few moments later it was in full charge at him and one to the back and one dead center of the head finally dropped him... we spent a wonderful weekend on the river spotting sows and cubs, and 75 degree weather. My otehr buddy Ray and i set up a great spot with tons of sign around it and expect memorial weekend to be full of bear shooting!!!
