I picked this up from a friend of mine off another forum... I received this the other day and found it reflects my upbringing quite closely. The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Meth lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, “Why didn’t we have a drug problem when you and I was growing up?” I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn’t put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me. I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom’s garden and flowerbeds and cockleburs out of dad’s fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed. Those days are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, heroin; and, if today’s children had this kind o drug problem, America would be a better place. God bless the parents who drugged us!

yeah.... the EXACT reason i stopped buying store bought meat when my 4 year old started to develop, why make a kids grow up to fast? people that promote stuff like that either don't have kids or must have other motives is all i can think. -

LOL my step son is the same way... i took him on his first bear hunt in 2008, we had a nice 4 year old hanging out and i set up a blind for it and set him up... with some sents out and some calling we went to work about 10:30 pm... shortly later he being 10 started to do the bored shuffle and i told him to take a nap for a bit ... 2 min later the hair comes up on my neck and i touched his foot... said... " don't go to sleep yet" as he sits up the front feet of this nice spring blackies appears through the under brush as this guy is sneeking in on us.... the entire stand started to SHAKE!!!! the boy was ALL a quiver and speechless as he viewed his first ever bear. 2 min later the death moan of the bear from taking his 243 settles down... and i help him get him self together... all he could say..... "when those feet showed up, I ALMOST PEED MY PANTS!" then LOUDLY " DUDE YOU ROCK!" one of my prouder moments as a step dad

Good luck Muley!!! we will be headed out about the same time for blackies here... got a Trip planned on the Yukon river this year. my wifes boy is headed home in may ( he stayed last winter with Dad in ID) and we are hoping to put him on a nice bear this year.. ( age 12) Griz season i upon us ANY DAY NOW! planning a trip around the 1st of may to the high country I hope you do great this spring, those long daylight hours are a blessing, and gets you closer to the bears normal hours, we are already at 15 hours 6 min a day here and growing by 7 min a day. keep in mind.. Bears see in color, they see and hear as good or better then we do.. and have a better nose then a white tail... BUT! they always know your there regardless of scent control. just don't move let them settle into your stand and settle down... watch them for a while... to get a better idea of boar or sow, and whether or not there are any cubs. that is the BEST part of hunting out of a bear stand. Good luck... i am amped waiting my turn this year too!

yeah were good at it up here... this one is recent.. heck we had 8 guys point hope left 160 c aribou to waiste and got away with a few hours community service. here recent Teen gets community service for illegally shooting moose Anchorage Daily News / adn.com Published: April 12th, 2010 05:19 PM Last Modified: April 12th, 2010 05:20 PM HAINES -- A 14-year-old boy who killed a cow moose after it charged the family dog was sentenced Monday to 30 hours of community service for illegally shooting the moose, according to Alaska State Troopers. Story tools tool goes here The boy, who was not named because of his age, had been cited for taking a cow moose during a closed season in connection with the February incident, troopers said. Troopers say an investigation determined the family dog had been barking at and aggravating the moose, causing it to charge the dog for some 20 feet before it stopped and ceased being aggressive. The dog was back at the family's home and no longer in danger when the boy got his .22-caliber rifle and shot the moose, "killing it instantly," troopers said. The shooting did not represent a legitimate defense of life or property killing, troopers said. The youth was sentenced to 30 hours of community service and will be required to complete a hunter education course before he can get a hunting license, troopers said. Thanks all.. and i always welcome a new person to camp... if some one want an experiance and an opportuinity.. I am more than willing to show some one around... BUT.. ak is VERY tough on non res/ res hunting trips... so! I am NOT a guide and your expensies are yours. but fun can be shared by all. we live a subsistance lifestyle in that a portion of every hunt is shared with some other family regardless of the quantity of harvest. my beliefe is that this sharing of game is what has awarded me my success as a hunter in Ak... 19 moose.. 19 years not many can top that one. ( but i am willing to help them try) -

oh guys! it is even worse up here. Everyone thinks large tracks of land are state land and anything on it is theirs. i have 310 acres about 100 miles S of Fairbanks and another 160 acers of mining tracts 26 miles off road from there.. i have found people camped in my yard, using my equipment, and sleeping in my cots on the claim. any fuel left out will get used ( if the bears don't eat first) and there have been years i have picked up 50 gallon trash bags of beer cans off my trail through my land. State law says i have to post it every 50 foot and i leave my cell phone number on the signs.. that say PRIVATE PROPERTY... please ask to enter. one year i let a couple guys hunt there and they did okay for the most part... except that 15 days later the place stunk to HIGH HEAVEN and bears were in my yard every night... turns out they spent the evenings shooting the hare that run every where there and tossed them into the woods to rot. was nearly 35 dead Bunny's rotting and bringing bears into my yard where the kids play. out on the claim when we put in trails... Moose season destroys them for the ATV traffic ripping up and down. and camping less then 100 yards from our tents and equipment. (60,000 square miles of wilderness in this sub unit) here in town if there is a trail... you will never stop ATV from ripping through once they find it. i dont mind the folks that just pass through that FOUND them selfs in the yard... but the ones that pull up and expect to unload in my yard because there is a trail through it get sent packing. it never used to be this way... but every year it gets worse. and i hate to say it... but it is all the URBAN minded folks that think because they drove 6 hours to get out of Anchorage... or those new up here that don know any better that think just because they can't see a house it is a free for all do all... good thing i am patient with folks and rather educate them then make enimies... never had a "confrontation" yet...
