And speaking of dangerous big game animals. How about the wild boar and the Leopard. I've heard the wild boar were pretty fast on their feet, but to be able to run down a Leopard? Amazing! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-E4fIiijYiOY/

This looks like fun. And like so many things in life, I'm sure it's a lot more difficult than what it appears. In the old western's they make it look easy. Anyone ever try shooting a target while on horseback at a gallup?

The Punt Gun. The Punt Gun is an extremely large shotgun used in the 19th & 20th centuries for shooting large numbers of waterfowl for commercial harvesting operations. Punt guns were usually custom designed and so varied widely, but could have a bore diameters exceeding 2 inches and fire a pound of shot at a time. A single shot could kill over 50 waterfowl resting on the waters surface. They were to big to hold and the recoil so great that they were mounted directly on the punts (boats) used for hunting, hence their name. Hunters would maneuver their punts quietly into line of range of the flock using poles to avoid startling the flock. Generally the gun was fixed to the punt; thus the hunter would maneuver the entire boat in order to aim the gun. This site will show some pictures of the punt gun and the very last video on the page will show the punt gun being fired. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2007/08/30/punt-guns/

Tim asked his Father, "Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?" The Father who, despite having a heart condition, says "yes." They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the Father always saying "yes" to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his Father, "Dad, lets join the Ironman together." For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest Triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events: 2.4 mile ocean swin. Followed by a 112 mile bike ride. Ending with a 26.2 mile marathon along the coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race together. View this event: http://godtube.com/featured/video/my-redeemer-lives-team-hoyt Dog Teaches God's Obedience:

In North America we have (what I would consider) two dangerous big game animals. One being the bear and the other being the wild bore. I'm on the conservative side and prefer to be over gunned than under gunned and wouldn't consider hunting these animals without packing my 44 magnum on my hip. Here's a video of an African hunt that went south. The leopard is well known to be one of the most difficult animals to take down. Nothing like a little hindsight but we can always learn something from life threatening situations. After it was determined that the leopard was wounded, what would your next move be. And you have to realize that this cat isn't going any place, he's mad as blazes and he's coming after you, wounded or not wounded. He knows exactly where your at, but you don't have a clue as to his exact location. In that type of under growth could you shoulder your rifle fast enough to fire a round if he charged you? I doubt it. It's Hard To Hit A Charging Leopard: http://trophyroom.com/video/BIkAidNXYP/ Look at the big game animals the 44 Magnum has taken down. I've posted three of my series on 'Outdoor Ministries' . There's a lot more to add regarding Outdoor Ministry prayers, activities, how to start one, etc. Let's see how this will fly. It would be ideal if there was a subject or topic exclusively for Outdoor Ministries under the 'Spiritual ' category. There are many Christian Outdoor Forums, but strangely enough, very few if any of them address Outdoor Ministries. And this is the most exciting thing in being in God's Magnificent Creation (outdoors)!

God and Nature. Have you ever watched squirrels busily engaged in gathering nuts (acorns) and searching furiuosly for a suitable buriel grounds. Did you know that the Indians used to watch the squirrels and chipmunks and gauge the probable severity of the winter to come by their activity? If they were very busy, it presaged a hard winter, and vice versa. It seems so remarkable that God has given these little creatures a kind of built-in wisdom which tells them what to do, as we seem so poorly equipped by contrast. Ah... but here comes the skepticism. Do you know that they most likely forget where they hide half of them? It's a pity God didn't make them altogether wise and give them better memories. Now this whole matter is becoming a little disconcerting and you wondered why God should have given them the instincts they had and not make these instincts more reliable. God's responce came from a magazine called Science Digest, and it had an article in it that was an extracxt from 'Foresty Digest,' which was titled 'Chipmunks and Squirrels Plant 17,000 Trees per acre.' The statement came from two research workers that found chipmunks and squirrels plant about 17,000 trees per acre as a result of FORGETTING where they put their food (nuts). What appears as a failure on the part of these little creatures turns out to be an illustration of a far superior kind of wisdom because they are, in effect, guaranteeing the future of succeeding generations of their own kind, as well as contributing towards the well-being of other creatures in the closely-knit kingdom of nature. Thus, the satisfying picture of God's superintending providence in Nature was once more restored. Woody Mortensen 11-17-08

God Nature & Serpents. Let's take snakes and lizards and begin with snakes. Would it be fair to say that snakes evolved from lizards? No, contrary to what the evolution theory states there is no evidence to support this theory and there is no fosil evidence to support this assertion as the evolution people continually ignore the lack of evidence. Plain and simple, God created all living things. Can snakes hear? And the unanimous responce is; "of course they can't silly, they have no ears!" But the Bible says they can! Science has always led us to believe that they could not hear and have gone to great lengths to show the Bible isn't scientifically accurate, and some compromising Christians who say passages in Genesis shouldn't be considered scientifically accurate have pointed to this passage as an example to show that the Bible shouldn't be taken 'literally'. Is the Bible wrong? Or are the scientists? Recent research has now shown that snakes do hear. Their quadrate bones (in the jaw) move slightly in responce to vibrations and transmit this to a pair of inner ears. And it's been shown snakes respond to both airborn and ground vibrations. In fact, the auditory responce of snakes in the range of 200 to 300 Hz is superior to that of cats. As Christians we should always start from Scripture because the Bible reveals itself as the infalliable Word of the One that cannot lie. It can't be wrong. When someone says the Bible can't be trusted, remember that scientisys now know that snakes can hear, and never lay down your belief in God's Word! Science changes all the time, God's word never does. Many creatures that lived in the enviroment before Noah's flood seemed to reach huge sizes. Fossils of gigantic monitors have been discovered that show todays isolated colonies have come from much larger and more wideranging monitors of earlier times. Fossils of Varanus, the lizard group to which Komodo Dragons belong, have been found in Australia measuring an incredible nine meters (30 feet) long! Yet these fossils give no indication that the giant reptiles evolved from any other type of creature and indisputable proof that reptiles (Komodo Dragon) did not evolve from non-reptiles. The Komodo Dragon is pretty aggressive and carries a body full of bacteria. Much of his diet comes from other dead animals that may have been dead for days or even weeks. The quanity of bacteria this lizard digests has mystified doctors and scientists for years. Even if the Komodo Dragon should brush against your flesh, it could possibly make you extremely ill or even kill you if not treated. They can run fairly fast in short bursts, good swimmers, have bone-crushing jaws, and are known for using their tail to knock their prey down. They can easily be over ten feet long and weigh over 300 pounds. This king size lizard is now considered a endangered species. However, if you could go hunting this giant lizard, it may be conforting to know that you won't have to go looking for him... he'll find you! Woody Mortensen 5-23-09

Fear of The Lord The God of the Scriptures is a Holy God, terrifying in greatness... utterly awesome in wisdom... who transcends human understanding. Our problem is the tendency to reduce this God of Glory to more manageable proportions; we trivalize God, and make Him into our image. We want to refashion God, to make Him fit our expections and serve our desires. We want to invent our own projects for our purposes, and then sign God on as a junior partner. We have lost a sense of awe before God. We want to do whatever we want to do, and then call upon God to help us... to justify us and serve us and make us happy. We have imprisioned God within the structure we have built for Him so that we may live however we want to live, then when we are confronted with some portion of truth or law or some rebuke to awaken us our reply is, "Well God wants me to be happy", but the happiness he desires for us is spiritual, and it is based on Holiness, not of the flesh. If there is one special revelation that we have received from the Lord that can help keep all of us out of major trouble with him - it has to be the revelation of being able to develope a good and healthy fear of Him and all His ways, 'The Fear of the Lord.' As a result of the uncomfortableness that this kind or revelation will bring to many in the flock, many pastors and churches have decided not to talk or preach about it, and as a result, many in their flocks have become complacent and lukewarm in their own personal relationship with the Lord and how they live their lives once they are outside the four walls of the church. Many people do not like to be told what they can and cannot do. But when it comes to God's realm, it is either His way or the highway. You cannot have it both your way and God's way. God is always right, and His ways and commandments for us on how to live. Fear God, fear His ways, fear His commandments and fear his judgements. Jesus himself could not have said it any better when He says that we should not fear man or what man can do to us, but to fear God the Father who has the power to render everlasting judgement and punishment. Our God is an awesome God. He is a very loving God. The Bible says that He is a God of abundant mercy, kindness and goodness. He is simply asking each and everyone of us to stay out of these heavier sins and transgressions not only for His sake, but for our own sake, and for the sake of our family and close friends.
