  7. Re: How old is old enough [ QUOTE ] I asked my buddy here in the office and he even suggested to start him out with a bb gun to test his maturity level before giving him a .22. Might give you a better insight as to how he will handle a real gun. By the way, I know of some adults I wouldn't trust with a .22. [/ QUOTE ] yeah, Andrew has had a BB gun for a couple years now. It always comes along with us when we are out after turkey in the spring, squirles in the fall, it has even been in the deer stand during bow season. He does very well with it, shooting and handling it safely. It has been one of them learn as you go deals with us. It is so much easier to teach them in the field rather than when you think of something else. We do that too. I had him shooting soda cans last summer with my .22, and we took a couple rabbits and woodchuck with it that were getting into the garden. Wigs
  8. Re: How old is old enough [ QUOTE ] have you taken him hunting with you and had all the safety and responsibility talks already? [/ QUOTE ] Oh yeah, many times! Got him hooked when he was sitting next to me when I took a 23lb tom a couple years ago. He hasn't stopped badgering me since
  9. To get a youngster a .22 cal rifle? My son turned 9 today and has asked for one since sept. and nothing else. What do you think, he would only be able to use it when I am with him as I lock all our guns up in the safe along with triger locks. What do you think? Wigs

  16. Re: I need some Ideas Yeah the wife decided we would break out cabelas Alaska Adventures and turn them loose on open season and see who can get the high score with each animal. Combine that with a couple games of twister, lots of cake and ice cream topped with soda and the boys should be good to go. Im still thinking of the deer drive though, if only the wife would let me....

  24. Re: More NY poachers get caught It was expensive as a whole, but only $6,000 each seems like it is too light. They should hit them with $10,000-$20,000 and make an example. Tougher penalties are needed in my opinion to curb illegal poaching. Thanks for the story. Serves them fellas right! Wigs
  25. Re: Ok, I did it!! Blaze orange..the controversy. [ QUOTE ] Be prepared NY'ers to see a bill with bowhunters and turkey hunters wearing blaze orange. Mark my words [/ QUOTE ] I here that. You know, Im not against the wearing of blaze orange for bow or turkey along with my deer hunting. But like HaDeRoDa <-sp ? I don't really care for it being shoved down my neck as mandatory. There seems to be no way this topic will ever be settled in my eyes. HaDe is there anyplace you know of that a person can look for those statistics as to how a person was shot, whether it was from misidentification, or someone beyond the target? That would be interesting.
