  1. yep tonight the world must have been off tilt or something.. i was hunting a great spot and i had a super buck chasing a doe ... problem was that the buck only had 1 side of his rack the other was busted off.. he would have been a 140 /150 class 8 point ...i ttried to get a pic of him but it was to dark... so i turned my attention on the doe to try and fill my doe tag.. i had what i thought was a chip shot 30 yarder .. problem is that a small tree got in the way... i heard the arrow crack and i thought i broke a rib or something...i was waiting for this doe to just fall over whne she just walked away flicking here tail at me.. it then dawned on me that little green thing on that tree was my nock ! so hears a pic of the famous tree killer ... my muzzy got great penetration...if it was just an inch to the left i would be eating backstraps now... [image] [/image] instead im not and im still trying to fill my tag.. the bucks are going nuts here and they are coming out of the wood work... im going to take a couple of days off later this week to try and score on something....

    2005 Hoyts!

Re: 2005 Hoyts! that new Protec is sweet looking and i really like the new colors that hoyt came out with....but i dont think i will be buying a new bow anytime soon... i just love the ones i have...... i think the points on the ProTec are cool looking ....with the new fusion color its going to be a hot bow...
  3. Re: I tested mechanicals and don\'t like them i have always shot Fixed head broadheads for deer hunting .. they were Muzzys or Thunderheads... i have always used mechaniclas for turkey hunting... but this year i had my eyes opened to the new G-5 Tekans ...i have 3 friends that have used them on Bear , Elk and deer and they have performed perfectly.. i might switch for next year because i want to extend my shooting range to 60 yds when i go antelope hunting ...even though my Muzzys fly great at that range in a windy situatiion they might not ...
  4. Re: I am so mad....this is unreal TG dont worry about it.. im sure the deer didnt pay any attention to it.. plus if its 100 yds away it might make the deer change pattern and come closer to you... im sorry but some of the comments were very funny ... im not laughing at you , im laughing with you...
  5. Re: Guess it happens to everyone ? dont sweat it.. we all miss one every now and then.. you will find out that as you gain experience that you will pick a small spot on the deer to hit and aim hard at it.. then make your normal shot.... its the little things taht make a shot good.. you can practice all you want but real deer hunting experience is so valuable to new bow hunters... but the excitement never goes away.. thats the fun of bowhunting....
  6. try this site they can probably help you find what you need....http://www.jenningsarchery.com/about/
  7. Re: Found the problem!! there are several ways to tie the knot to your drop zone string.. the conventional way is to tie an over hand knot , pull it tight and then burn it down to seat it .. then you have the way my shop did mine.. they ran the string through and then doubled the string and served it together ... it wont slip ever again.. even though mine is a trophy taker i still has the same kind of knot that has to be tied... hers a pic of mine... 8. Re: 18 Deer Found Dead In One Field In Illinois we had few die of blue tongue a few years ago.. but nothing reported since.. usuallu it was one found dead of it , not a huge group like 18... i have a hard time believing that there were 18 dead of blue tongue at one spot.. sounds like someone put poision out to kill the deer off ....
  9. Re: Buck down!! *Pics are in* i like the first pic a lot.. a guy with his buck and the American flag in the back ground...pretty cool .. congrats on the nice buck....
  10. Re: Quarter Moon - No Deer ive been seeing a lot of deer movement here in central iowa for the last 20 days or so.. i even saw one nice 8 point moving at 3:00pm ! the does are moving pretty good except where i have messed them up .... i saw 6 does last night and they came out at 5:30 pm... they were just to afr away....
  11. Re: What accessories??? i think Vt and carbon have most of it covered.. except for white out , a bow square , extra pieces of d-loop material , nock pliers and a small black marker to number your arrows ... the white out is used to mark on your string where the peep is located .. then you can see if it moved anytime.. its also great for marking your sight once its set and a drop on the top and bottom of your D-loop if your using one... if your going to shoot a D-loop then get extra lenghts cut and have them handy .. the lengths need to be exact.. this is how you will perfect your draw length to an 1/8 of an inch....plus learn how to tie a d-loop on properly...if you using a D-loop then you wont need the nock pliers or nocks... a small note book to log the draw length , draw weight , arrow length , arrow weight , broadhead weight , height from nock to peep...how high the nock is above level...string length , tiller measurement , brace height and bow serial number ...and any other specs on your bow.. you would be surprised how that stuff gets forgotten in a couple of years and when it comes time to order new strings you wont have to take them off to find out.. my biggest advice is get some shooting instruction from a good competition shooter in your area..you will find out that shooting form is absolutely critical in shooting well.. if you get started out right then you wont have to battle problems in the future...
  12. Re: Wooooooo Hoooooo!!! I got my bow!!! [ QUOTE ] I plan on having this bow for a very long time. [/ QUOTE ] yea right thats what we all say .... good luck with your new rig....
  13. Re: How close is too close? i dont hunt bedding areas ... i hunt he trails leading to them... there is a differance ... i like to be at least 100 yds away from the bedding area ... provided i can get that far.. there are spots that i find that arent huntable...places that if you push the situation you can mess up your hunting for the rest of the season .... i got agressive with some does this year and i screwed it up bad.. now they dont come out until dark...im letting the place set for 7 days and then try again.....
  14. Re: I got me a nice fat doe! Wiggs maybe you should take him all the time .. sounds like the boy is good luck...
  15. Re: Mathews Outback or Hoyt XTec shoot both but you have to remember that a bow can change feel by adding a heavier stabilizer , limb savers , string leeches , and how heavy your arrow is... to have a true test you should put all your accessories on each bow and then shoot it . this will give it the feel you will have once you buy the bow... shoot the Hoyt you wont be sorry....
  16. Re: Whacky Deer Behavior now that you mention it Doc i have had this happen to me twice this year.. i have never seen does so spooky ... just last night i had 6 does come out about 120 yds west of me.. with a 20 mph wind from the west i know they didnt wind me and i was very well hidden in my stand about 18 feet up with plenty of back cover... this doe is just staring my direction for a long time and then finally just puts up her tail and walks away... this is the first time i have hunted this stand so i know they havent busted me there before.. just hunting i guess...
  17. as most of you know i always promote safety as much as the rest of you.. i always check my stands before season to make sure they are ok... i did that this year ... and i didnt find anything wrong.. so yesterday i pulled a stand and when i went to put it up in another location i found that the over cam buckle had metal fatigue .. it was pretty close to breaking .. it gives me the shakes to think about what would have happened if it had broken when i was in it.. check out this pic of it...as you can see the middle piece is supposed to be straight noe bent like that .. the metal is split on the edges almost all the way through... [image] [/image] i so lucky i found this before problems happened...
  18. Re: Busted.........but it is still all good! yea i know how it feels ..those does are a nasty bunch.... good luck using the can....
  19. Re: B- heads Mechanical or fixed blades i have always used fixed for deer hunting and mechanicals for turkey hunting... but with the new Tekans on the market and so many guys giving good reports on some of the mechanicals out there i could be using a mechanical of some kind in the future... also since my hunting bow is now capable of 70 lbs i have the horse power necessary to use mechanicals...
  20. Re: Grunt tube im using mine right now.... urrrp urrrp ... you never can tell when you need a grunt or 2 to pull a buck into range ..i take mine with me all the time everytime... if you dont have one then i guess you will have to watch him walk away without an attempt... also out of all the grunt calls i have used the best by far i have used is the simple Knight and Hale easy grunter .. the one i have has called in so many bucks its not funny... i think its the sound it makes... kind of like a favorite never fail fishing lure...
  21. Re: U.S. Weather Service Warning good post Buckee....
  22. Re: I would shoot myself....maybe i dont know Steve an Iowa 8 point is a good buck anywhere... just depends if your age... i like spread and mass .. since you just became an 8 point i dont think your a shooter yet... better get another 100 or so posts to add some mass and then another 100 to add some spread and you will be a shooter for sure... hows the new land doing ? hope your arrows i made are shooting good...
  23. Re: Mossy Oak Forums........... Definately it was RealTree Camo that brought me to this wondefull place on the web..... since that day i found a lot of new friends and have met some absolutely great guys from here ... since im involved with 5 other sites another is just to much..
  24. yep mine sure does.. it has been saying to change the water pump for a few days and i finally got it done... i never knew there was a " weep " hole in the water pump ? a buddy said that when it starts doing that you better get it done quick.... me and a Tim spent about 1 1/2 hours doing mine and now im back in the game .... if yours is talking to you you better listen.....because you dont need vehicle probs during deer season....

    Good group

Re: Good group nice shooting.... i agree with JB here.. you must bend at the waist when shooting from a treestand.. this will keep your shooting form the same like when your shooting on level ground ... then you dont have to aim low just aim dead on....
