2. Was lucky enough to get on the Wyoming site and get two reduced Antelope doe tags for this fall. Will be hunting with my two cousins. good luck to all the dog
3. First off, a BIG THANK YOU to our wonderful hosts Steve B. & Connie. Two nicer people you will not meet. They were the greatest hosts. We had an exciting spring black bear hunt on POW island. I should have titled this: "A BIG LEARNING CURVE". We learned a lot and had lots of fun. It's not as easy as those people on TV make it look (or seem to make it look).I went along with my brother and two cousins. They had tags and I was along for the ride. I have a tag for next year and I hope to go back.If any of you have questions on hunting the island I will share my "newly gained knowledge".This may be boring for some of you that have been to Alaska.Waiting to board the plane in Minneapolis.... on to Seattle and Ketchikan.Ferry from airport to Ketchikan~~First day in Ketchikan was the wettest day that we had.~~Had to see the local sights before the ferry left the next day for the island.~~Me and bear~~Lots of float planes.~~After a 3 hour ferry ride to Hollis on POW island. Then a two hour drive to our destination.~~The place that we stayed. It was nice to have a bed to sleep in and a shower everyday (and the great hospitality). The place overlooked the inside passage. Everyday, sperm whales, pilot whales, seals, sea otters, and dolphins. Thanks, STEVE & CONNIE!!!! ~~View from the house everyday and night. The home overlooked the Inside Passage ~~Cruise ships passed in the Inside Passage every morning and evening. ~~We had one day when the water was like glass. So calm ~~The boat that we had to use for the week. Thanks Steve ~~Harbor at the place we stayed ~~Day 1 we headed south in search of bear. We drove the boat close to 20 miles the first day. My brother drove the small boat. What an adventure ~~The grass flats that we hunted on day 1. We hunted mid morning and mid afternoon. No bears. Learned that we should have been hunting earlier and later. ~~On the afternoon of day 1 we learned how fast the tides rise. Yes, I remember seeing shows of other people's boat getting stranded. I can not believe how fast the tides rise and fall. Picture of my brother wading across 3 feet of water to get our boat.... that was now on an island. Next year a "LONGER ROPE". ~~Boat tied to island ~~Day 2 we planned on hunting some "inner lakes". We got there in a mid tide so the lakes were not accessible by boat. The plan was to enter the lakes and stay overnight and hunt early mornings and late evenings. My brother did not feel safe with the idea. We covered much shoreline without seeing a bear. (NOTE: a few days later a local went out to the same place and shot a bear on his first time out on the water). Next year I hope to go back and set up a spike camp to cut down on travel time. Tough to navigate a small boat in the dark with the tides. ~~My two cousins decide to hunt the clear cuts. On the first day they spotted this guy and after three shots he was down. They were being safe as they did not want to track him into the thick woods. 20 inch skull and the locals say he went about 550 lbs. The second biggest that the locals saw this year. ~~Some of the higher ground that the guys hunted ~~After 2 days in the boat my brother decide to hunt the clear cuts. As a result I was off to fishing with my hosts. Fishing was slow, however, we did catch a few. We were about one week early for the salmon run. Some locals were catching a few salmon. One halibut was caught. Excellent eating. ~~Heading out to fish in the bigger boat ~~I just caught "junk fish". My first time ever bottom fishing. I caught a dolphin by accident. I have never seen line go off of a reel so fast in my entire life. I ask Steve what to do....he says "there is nothing that you can do. Just hold on and the line will break". Fortunately the dolphin released on his own before I ran out of line. (I wonder if the dolphin might have been tangled in the line rather then hooked). Either way it was a first time experience. ~~This is how thick the forest was. ~~I did some hiking on my own to scout other areas for next year. I carried this while hiking alone. I found it easier to hike the streams and logging roads then try the forest ~~When we arrived there were tons of Sitka deer all along the roads. They were as big as barrels. Two days later there were fawns all along the roads in the grass. The fawns would just drop to the ground as a vehicle approached. Some defense mechanism. Locals say they are good meals for the bears. I hope to go back some fall to hunt Sitka deer. ~~Steve set out crab pots and we ate crab for dinner on two nights ~~Was able to meet the island law enforcement. I asked for a photo with him, however, he stated: "NO, you will not believe what people do with my photos" ~~ was fascinated by the colors and shapes of all the starfish. ~~A barge pulling rail cars. He was headed north when we passed him and two hours later he turned around and was headed south. OOPS!!! ~~Filling the tank at the local gas station. Directly from the fuel truck. ~~Two cousins ~~Me and brother ~~Our WONDERFUL HOSTS... STEVE AND CONNIE. Thanks for everlasting memories Steve & Connie relaxing. Steve in his favorite place (chair). Good luck to allthe dog
4. Yep that works, however, only small images. Thanks for your help. I'll keep trying and maybe a miracle will happen. good luck to all the dog
5. More frustration with this "new" system. I have my Alaska photos and would like to post them with a story. I finally have them uploaded to an album. Under the old way I could give a description "in my story" and post a photo below the description. Example: "here is the big fish that I caught" (and I would place the photo here). This new system seems to place the photo where ever it wants to place the photo. Does anyone understand the new photo system and how to place a photo within an on going story??? Thanks good luck to all the dog
6. Anyone know how to create a new photo album with this set-up??? Seems it only wants me to "post" photos. thanks the dog
7. Cool, what unit in Az. did you put in for??? I have 7 points in AZ. and will be thinking about getting serious about AZ very soon. good luck to all the dog
8. invalid birthday... apparently I wasn't born.

10. Jeff, If all else fails you are more then welcome to tag along on my New Mexico rifle hunt in unit #52. Just south of where we hunted elk in Colorado. Hope that you guys get something figured out. good luck to all the dog
11. Great story and great hunts!!! Nice to see that all had luck with the birds. Hey Rhino: This is my first year with the DSD's and I can not believe how well the birds respond to the decoys. Almost seems unfair. good luck to all the dog
12. Hey, you gave it a good try. good luck to all the dog
13. Last day of the season here in Iowa. My friend went out this Sunday morning and bagged this nice bird. He took his bow and gun along. He just "nicked" the tom with his arrow as the tom strutted around the jake decoy. The tom became "mad" in that he thought the jake had just attacked him. He said that it was really cool looking. With the first miss with the arrow (and it being the last day), he picked up the 20 gauge. I have seen some multi-beards, however, I can not remember any bird having 5 & the beards being so long. Total... 36 7/8 inches, 22 lbs 4 oz. and 1 inch spurs. Congrats, Joe!!! 116 total score. good luck to all the dog
14. First bird must be entered according to rules. good luck to all the dog
15. With four days left in the season I went out last night and sat in my Double Bull blind. I went to a place where I know the turkeys run the fence line and cross the fields in the evening. Woods to the north and woods to the south. I had a bearded hen come in about 5:30 PM (see video). I just can't shoot hens. About 6:30 I hear some gobbling back in the woods. I call very softly and wait 15 minutes then call once more, after another 15 minutes I call softly. I kinda know the habits of these birds and I keep watching the field to the north. They appear out about 250 yards. More soft calls and they see the DSD's (I just bought these decoys this year with Cabelas points and they are the real deal... game changers). The run is on. See video for the rest of the story. 19 lbs. 1 inch spurs and 11 1/4 inch beard. (I think I shot the smaller one). Just love the beard on the one I didn't shoot. NOTE: his buddy stayed around for 15 minutes trying to get the dead bird to leave. Wish I had another hunter with me... RATS!!!! good luck to all the dog
16. congrats!!!! good luck to all the dg
17. "She da girl & you da man"!!!! good luck to all the dog
18. Took my annual trip to Nebraska, South Dakota & Wyoming for spring turkeys. I am superstitious, so seeing this rainbow on the way across South Dakota was "good karma". Southern South Dakota before you cross into Nebraska Ranch Brands in northern Nebraska around Merriman, Nebraska. The area of the Pine Ridge forest that we hunt More Pine Ridge. More Pine Ridge. Forest service roads. It took 45 minutes to drive 4.5 miles back to the furthest part of the public lands. My friend Thomas, a local. Sitting atop on of the hills. Atop same hill. Another area that I hunted near Crawford, Nebraska. Upon arrival on the first afternoon (Saturday) we spotted 2 gobblers. Thomas and Ryan went after them and were able to bag one of the toms. Ryan with his Pine Ridge bird. Congrats! We were soon after another flock and Thomas bagged his bird in the open grasslands. Congrats. Next it was my turn and we headed for the river bottoms of the White River. They had been seeing birds in a old wheat field and I was able to connect in the late afternoon. All birds were 19 - 21 lbs with 8 inch beards. My tom had NO spurs. Sunday was slow and we relaxed for the most part. Monday the birds out smarted us in the morning. I set up my blind Monday night in a place that we have never hunted in the late evening or early morning. That night I had 3 groups of hens come into the decoy field. The tom stayed at 200 yards on a hill side. The next morning I slipped into the blind at 4 am. Gobbling all over the place. What excitement. Must have been at least a dozen gobblers. This guy came down the fence line to my calls and then ducked a fence on to private land. I couldn't figure it out... call shy??? afraid of the decoys??? I called one more time and his head went up and he turned around and came in on a full strut. The initial problem.... he could not see the decoys (as I learned afterwards). I had placed the decoys in a slight depression in the dark and he could not see them until he went further south. What a pretty sight to see him come strutting in. 25 yards and it was over at 5:45 am. Love the DSD decoys. It was off to Wyoming where I visited two friends. NOTE: I skipped South Dakota due to lower bird numbers. The Wyoming - Nebraska line near Lusk, Wyoming. The flat lands near Edgemount, South Dakota Stayed one night in Newcastle, Wyoming and ate at the Pizza Barn. Hunted around the Four Corners area of Wyoming and passed on 6 Jakes as they came by me. I was hoping for a tom and that never happened. Stayed in Sundance, Wyoming and woke up to a dusting of snow and cold temps. It was onto Hulett, Wyoming to visit my friend & attend the "Old West Invitational Turkey Shoot". It's a great fundraiser for the local community. I was fortunate enough to meet Corey Cogdell (see below) the Silver medalist at the Olympics in trap. Also met some football and baseball players, Andy Griggs and a very nice songwriter from Nashville by the name of Austin Wahlert. A very cool kid. The guests on my friends ranch shot a Jake on the second day. I didn't hunt my friends ranch, instead I helped him clear downed trees on fence lines that dropped in last falls severe blizzard. 1 1/2 miles was cleared, with two partial days work (man I'm gettin' old)... still much more work. Below is a 108 year old tree that fell. Sunset at the ranch in the Black Hills. Some of the many deer on the ranch. Deer numbers seem to be rebounding. Cat numbers are lower..... GOOD!!!! Left Hulett, Wyoming at 10 PM and drove thru the night to get home. This was the scene as the was driving across southern Minnesota at 5:45 AM. A very nice sight to see as I headed east. Only 10 hours in the truck on the way back. Never realized how few cars are on the interstate between midnight and 6 am. Hope you enjoyed. good luck to all the dog
19. congrats!!! good luck to all the dog
