  1. The only reason I know it's 24 years is because that's when I came to Iowa for my job. good luck to all the dog
  2. 22 lbs, 3/4 inch spurs, 9 inch beard. Just a two year old bird. Too good to pass. Sorry I couldn't have given you guys a bigger bird. good luck to all the dog
  3. I moved to northeast Iowa 24 years ago and I was introduced to turkey hunting. I tagged the first one in the spring of 1991.... my largest to date at 28 1/4 lbs. Every year I anticipate the coming of spring and the upcoming season. While driving the dirt roads to my clients farms I watch the fields for birds. Every spring they show up in the same fields to strut. I started out with a gun and tagged at least one bird every spring (most years two birds). I then went to archery and tagged 5 birds & enjoyed the challenge. With the business growing, time was limited and I switched to blackpowder and really like that (Thanks to forum member LJMelea for his help and insight). Now a days it's either the shot gun or blackpowder. Much time is also spent taking out beginning kids and old friends. Two years ago was the closest to a shutout as I tagged on the next to last day. Never shot a jake in Iowa (except in fall huts where it's totally a meat hunt). Today marks 24 years in a row of success, for spring birds, as I tagged this 22 lb. bird this evening with the Baretta Urika. 22 lbs, 3/4 inch spurs & about a 9 inch beard. A two year old bird. At 55 years old I wonder how many more years???? good luck to all the dog
  4. My season started today. Had a Jake come in to my decoy field. 8 yards..... kicked the crap out of DSD jake decoy for 15 minutes. Fun to watch. I'll hold out for a mature bird. good luck to all the dog
  5. I applied for the fall, however, I got my second choice which was spring of 2015. good luck to all the dog
  6. NICE, that hunt is on my "to do list" good luck to all the dog
  7. Struck out on my muzzleloader draws, however, my third choice came through..... rifle for unit #52 in New Mexico. Anyone with any info (or who would like to tag along) would be welcome. Oct. 18 - 22. Also will most likely get a Colorado cow elk tag, muzzleloader, for mid Sept. Looks like I may have to cancel the antelope/ mule deer trip to Wyoming this year. good luck to all the dog
  8. I've been taking out kids with NO luck. Seeing birds, however, they aren't coming in. Will keep trying. good luck to all the dog

  16. I've shot at least one every year for the last 24 years. I hope that statement does put the jinx on me. I will be headed to Nebraska, South Dakota & Wyoming for 9 days of hunting. Otherwise two tags for Iowa. good luck to all and have lots of fun the dog
  17. Yes, Cabela points, however, once you DO NOT draw the card is issued a refund and the points come off of the card. Wish they did like Wyoming and issue you a check. Elk and Oryx aren't too bad... it's the sheep that's the killer. good luck to all the dog

  19. I noticed that It worked well for you last year. good luck t all the dog
  20. You drew a 4th season tag... but they might run out of tags????? I'm lost. Hey team, I'll be hunting Iowa sometime this spring... just not sure what season. The older I get the nicer I like the weather to be. I usually choose one of the later seasons... once I spot the turkeys struttin' in a certain location. On another note, I'm almost certain I will be headed to Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming for a week of turkey hunting. Just nice to hunt a different area and get away from work. good luck to all the dog
  21. Very excited about that trip Bob. Heck I don't even have a license for this spring and I'm jumpin' up and down just to see the place, see my cousins hunt and see Steve. May can't get here fast enough. Good luck to all the dog
