  8. This is a question of new and old archers in this great sport. Are you a creature of habit.....do you still, because you are catching sightings of deer, a follower of the norm, or would you change your ways if need be. Here is a case in point, a new archer to the sport, in my opinion has a honey hole of a property. A land owner with a large herd that really has done really good QDM management has A TON of archers on "bordering" properties basically "hogging" the fencelines of his crops...knowing full well that if they shoot one on the landowners land, then they have to get permission to track. I informed my buddy, who has been a "fence" hunter, that I would give him 20 ft of climbing sticks, and a new treestand, if he just actually scouted the property, as he walks three or four hundred yards to hunt the "fence", well I was right, the deer that actually head to to fence that he needed to be hunting are staging 150 yards from the crops till dark, and there are fresh scrapes, and rublines all over the place, my buddy can't believe how much he truly is missing, actually setting up in the woods to really hunt. SO, answer me, are you a fence hunter, or do you work for it. al
  9. Good luck buddy, I dont know where your at in Illinois...but its gonna get darn cold here tonite, so he will definately bed down for the last time.....good luck, coyotes will surely find him if you dont....I wish you the best..........al
  10. Like a wise old hunter told me if not once, several times....deer get spooked several times a day.....several times a day...hang a wick stick, make sure that the deer can't get too close to your stand....I put brush all around my tree, so they dont get too close....clean up a trail in front of you, for him to choose the trail with the better shot...he is cruising, he will be back....maybe try and get higher.......you'll get him, just gonna take some work.........good luck. al
  11. Sweet.............let the snack stick bonanza begin....lol........glad to hear of such a great hunt from a fellow flatlander........al

  14. Great deer buddy....he was just "camera shy"......kudos for a clean harvest, and great pics..........al
  15. Thanks so much for posting the pic, and for the comments....I am really happy with him, had a dry archery season last year, only harvested a 12 year old doe with a shotgun late, late season last winter...really needed to redeem my archery skills....thanks again gang. AL
  16. Here is your official update....they are chasin'...they are answering rattle bags, poor grunting, and esp. the doe "can" calls......we are seeing alot of younger, dumber bucks making the mistakes first, and the big ones are getting smacked at night by cars on the tails of a doe going into estrous....it should be getting crazy any day now....Im in Northern Illinois, just south of Rockford in Ogle County....this is my report from the tree.......al

    Nice deer buddy...you deserve him......al
  18. What a way to fill the freezers.....congrads on all the harvests....and thanks for helping me post the pic of mine.....quite the friend. al
  19. Aint pretty, but if someone can help me, I can send a pic to your phone to post. I needed freezer meat, so the first available deer was it, period. Had a two year old heavy six come in licking his lips like a fool when he seen the doe decoy, shot him in the shoulder/spine area, as he hit the ground instantly., had to shoot him again to make sure of it. Live weight probably 170 lbs. He is now at the processor. Best luck to all, have one doe tag, and one gun tag left. Pic coming from my buddy Straight Shooter....what a great friend to help the computer illeterate. al
  20. If you buy the poor guy a small saw, and trim out a shooting lane...lol....it would save in the long run......great video...al
  21. Im thinking the smell of blood, and you may of eliminated the boss dog in the pack out of the three......they were probably fighting immediately to show dominence to get the top seed in the fight....that is so cool you killed three coyotes in one sitting..WITH A BOW...you make us Illinois bowhunters proud....kudos to you....al
  22. I field dress them where they fall....its just alot easier for me, and at least twenty plus pounds of stuff I don't have to throw in the truck. I have to place a tag on the animal before moving it at all here in Illinois, so I just soon be done with the cleaning part immediately, and it saves meat spoilage, I want the deer cooled asap. al
  23. Totally Awesome....good for you buddy, nice shot.........al
  24. Sure is a pretty deer Steve...good job.......al
