    Prayer request

I just learned that my employer's wife lost her 7 year battle with cancer. She was a pleasant lady you I did not get to know well. Their son is currently serving over in Kuwait supporting the effort in the Middle East. So my prayers go out for both the Hartberger men and family.
  5. Today is day one of 2 of a Youth Gun Season. I went out with TE this morning and got busted twice. This afternoon TE went with Mom (he messed up again on a nice buck) while I took LittleNUt. We all went to same area at first. Martin got tired of sitting so we went to a spot I wanted to check out. I parked and then we started up the field to explore. We had walked about 100 yards when we see 2 deer ahead of us. They see us the same time and start to leave when Martin fires and drops the bigger doe. It looks like a spine shot to me the way the deer was moving. So we start to go ahead when I see another doe coming towards me. I tell Martin to get down. Well I see another deer and it was a basket rack 6 pointer with a very black shade to it's antlers. They know something is wrong and go off another way.(Did not matter since I was a non-hunting adult and Martin only had one tag which only could be used for antlerless since he already got his 1 buck for the year) WE get to the doe and it is still alive. So I have Martin shoot again (in the head so no more meat gets wasted and that is why the pic is the way it is ) I believe this will be his last deer of the year at least until some of his brothers and parents get a tag filled
  6. Re: Putting the Bow down for a few weeks I love hunting with anything I can. But this weekend is Youth Deer Gun and I will just be along to watch my boys hunt. More fun for me.
  7. Re: Ross County Ohio Giant [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] And who says Ohio has small deer? [/ QUOTE ] My buddy Tom and I do. Stay home. No big deer in Ohio. Picture is clearly photoshopped. Look at him, he looks like he's smiling for crying out loud. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with Chris and Tom.

  11. Re: Age to start hunting. My 2 youngest started at 9 after they passed Hunter's Ed. For their first year it was just small game. I also believe that the parent in most cases is the best judge to know when their child is ready.

  20. Re: A Day Late, And A Buck Short Yep tough luck but it is hunting LOL Everytime I find out where a decent buck is located the work week interferes. (I know where the buck goes in the evening and could only hunt the morning)
  21. Re: Family Tradition? I come from a long line of hunters. THey just were not deer hunters since the deer population was extremelysmall where they lived. MyDad only hunted squirrels and rabbits.HIs brother was more into hunting and also went after furbearers. THeir Dad(my Granpa) was a dog man. He had rabbit dogs, squirrels dogs and coon dogs. Not one of them ever spent 1 hour hunting deer or turkeys though. My brother tried hunting deer but spends all his time working. My mothers side has both. HUnters and non-hunters. Everyone of them loves venison as far as I know. Now my wife and 3 sons are all deer and turkey hunters. So hopefully it will be a family tradition from now on.
