  1. A little history, courtesy of Sniper Country. http://www.snipercountry.com/InReviews/TascoSS_Rebirth.asp hangunnr
  2. I see in your post that you linked to the SWFA site. The SWFA SS scopes are I beileve different than the tasco scopes. If I remember correctly tasco first introduced them but stopped when they went belly up several years ago. Another manufacturer then picked up the line and the name. I've heard nothing but good about the SWFA SS scopes. There are quite a few guys over at Snipers Hide using them. They are likely the best bang for the buck. If I'm wrong on this feel free to correct me. I'm working with a fading memory these days..... hangunnr
  3. From what I've seen written of the Super Sniper scopes the trashco version isn't as good as the original SS. I've looked at the 10X42 with the side focus but ended up going a different direction. Hopefully your's is well made. I feel your pain with the break in shootin. I'm in the process of getting my 300WSM Xp100 ready. I've got a total of 6 rounds down range. It's a pita, but worth it in the end. hangunnr
  4. If I were in the market for an '06 and had a $1500 budget I'd wander over to Gun Broker and buy this Rem 700 SPS for $570. Then I'd go to the optics section of the site and buy this Leupold 4.5X14 for $630. The rest of the cash would buy a nice mount, rings and a set of reloading dies. Any money that is left would be put into ammo. hangunnr
  5. Looks good to me!! Always good to have a new toy. What type of scope are you gonna get? hangunnr
  6. If a topic dosen't appeal to you........don't click it. hangunnr
  7. You can save a bundle if you're shooting some of the exotic stuff. If you keep a keen eye on the sale fliers that come out you can get some smokin deals on components. For instance, I'm loading 458 Win mag for right at $1.31 per round. $26.10 per box of 20. This price is using new brass. The next loading be $.70 cheaper per round because the brass is already paid for. $.61 per round for 458 Win Mag can't be beat by purchasing your ammo. The cheapest I've seen this ammo on the shelf around here was for $79.99 per box of 20. Granted, I've gotten some of the components at rock bottom prices which kept the cost down but as you can see you can save quite abit by rollin your own. hangunnr
  8. towermonkey, I'll tell you this only once. Keep your comments about other forum members to yourself. hangunnr
  9. Can't say how accurate they would be out of your barrel but they would be much cheaper to practice with. You could step up the power level another notch with some 454 Casull rounds then stoke it with the full house 460 ammo. hangunnr
  10. I don't consider this brand bashing. He, IMO is venting his disgust with the way the company has treated him. I don't see any problem with sharing bad experiences about any company as long as it's done in a mature manner. hangunnr
  11. I'll second that nomination. Jeramie at least understands the spirit of the OTPG / SCOPE thing, something that's been lost on others... hangunnr
  12. First off, who did you deal with at Benelli? If you were dealing with some schmuck in the repair department then you need to go way over his head. Demand to speak to every manager that'll answer a phone. In other words be as much as a pain in their rear as you can. It sounds to me like you have a mis-aligned thread on the barrel where the tube screws in. Either that or a bent barrel. There isn't much else that would cause this condition. hangunnr
  13. OSHA has taken enough flak that they've deceided to revise their proposed regulation change. http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=3162 This aint quite over yet. We still need to keep pressure on them so they won't try to slip some of the same crap past us with the revision. hangunnr
  14. That's the kinda attitude that'll get our guns taken away. It seems there has been enough pressure that OSHA is going to revise their stance. http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=3162 Good job to all those that took part in getting the word out. hangunnr
  15. IB, I put a sticky on your post in the Rifle Forum. hangunnr
  16. I agree with Johns assessment of Knights ignition system. The Disc system is hard to beat. They also did it right from the start using Timney triggers in their guns. They haven't however been able to keep up with T/C in the advertising department. I've only owned one Knight which was purchased here in the RT forums classifieds. The gun was just like every other Knight that I've shot or handled. Accuracy was OK but the thing felt like I was holding a 2X4. The Knights stocks just don't fit me. I sold the gun as quick as I could. The guy that currently owns it seems satisfied though.... hangunnr
  17. That'll keep yer spotter on his toes..... Does the brake vent downward or just to the sides? hangunnr
  18. Thanks for announcing that....I feel much better now... hangunnr
  19. Better yet.... You bring that 408 sweetness here to Indiana and I'll run it out to Penna with me this fall and Strut and I will give it a real OTPG evaluation. While you're here I'll treat you to a range session with the 458 Win Mag pistol. hangunnr
  20. "Back door gun control attempt?" That's exactly what this is. We MUST let our elected officials from our home states know how we feel about this underhanded slimey backdoor BS. There is some hope though. There is currently a 60 day extension to allow further research on this topic. You can read more at the link below. http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20071800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2007/E7-13198.htm hangunnr
  21. Could be, you might be onto something.... Strut, We need more high quality fodder like this for the firearm forums. No nonsense there, just high quality stuff... hangunnr
  22. The 45-70 works very well out of handgun length barrels. There is a ton of loading data available. I would bet the Leverevolution ammo offered by Hornady would also work very well out of a short barrel. hangunnr
  23. Didn't happen to have the right powder on hand for the heavyweight slugs so I put a few together using the barrel makers suggested load of a 300gr Remington HP that has been clocked at 2500fps out of this barrel. Might just be a decent light load for those pesky 100lb whitetail we have around here. hangunnr
