  1. An honorary membership goes out to this guy and all like him... hangunnr
  2. Good deal... Find yourself a set of Houge rubber grips and she'll be much more comfortable to shoot. hangunnr
  3. IMO the medium or high Warne rings are still too low for a comfortable cheek weld. I have an Armalite mount on my AR that is .625 high (measured from the top of the rail on the rifle to the bottom of the ring where the scope sits) and it is still a bit low. I'd like to have another 1/4 - 3/8th" rise to be completely comfortable. The Warne high rings are only .525 high, can't say what the mediums are. I originally had Warne rings in mind but found them to be too low. With that said....They do offer a riser block that would go between the rings and the rifle that would allow the use of the Warne high rings. Warne does offer Xrta high (.650") and Ultra high (.850") that should be good to go without any riser blocks needed. Here is the URL to them at Brownells. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=15492&title=MAGNUM+SPEICAL+APPLICATION+MAXIMA+RINGS When I was looking for a mount I didn't find out about the Xtra or Ultra rings untill after I picked up the Armalite mount. If I was gonna order, I'd go with the Ultra high... hangunnr
  4. I'm partial to the S&W guns. You can do so much more with the actions if they need work. I also don't think you need the extra bulk of the Rugers. Here's my current crop of Smith 44s. I'm working on adding another to the stable. Came across an engraved 629DX that just needs to live in my safe... hangunnr
  5. Yep, our OTPG leader not only talks the talk he walks the walk. That Weatherby stomper sure put the ruin to the bruin... Congrats on the Booner Don!!
  6. Very nice!! I will someday have a fat barreled M22 in 6BR. hangunnr
  7. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=72667998 http://www.biggerhammer.net/barrett/ http://www.edmarms.com/products/m96.htm Here ya go... hangunnr
  8. That's a bummer having to wait as long as you have. That's the exact reason he'll never get any of my money... I'll use SSK for any rechamber work. I may end up with a 7mag barrel too. Kinda been looking for a decent 7-08 heavy rifle barrel for a cut down, muzzle brake and rechamber to 7mag. Be sure to let us know how it shoots if you ever get it... hangunnr
  9. From the OTPG dictionary: middleground......where the wanna bes flounder and the ustabeens fade away... C'mon Tominator......you know you need a 375 H&H for those pesky Ohio groundhogs.... hangunnr
  10. That's a fine lookin rifle you have there doubleA. It's a Sako TRG42 isn't it? Should be a fine prairie dog buster.... Here's a little better BC bullet if'n you're interested...http://www.gsgroup.co.za/338295sp.html Strut, I'll nominate doubleA for membership. hangunnr
  11. Well done Jack!! Nothing like doing it old school. No fancy adjustable sights or scopes, just a shooter that knows his weapon....BRAVO!! hangunnr
  12. Got to stretch the legs on a couple lightweights yesterday. Unfortunately the windy conditions shut down any real accuracy tests but I did find a couple loads that hovered under an inch in both guns. This one is a Remington Sendero in 300WM. I skim coat bedded the action and installed a set of Holland springs in the trigger. The Leupold 8.5X25X50 LRT is a decent piece of glass but the mount and rings will be changed to allow better eye relief. I need the scope to move back about another .5". This 300WM Encore is a real pleasure to shoot. Sure gets the attention of any others at the range. Thanks again to VTBowman for the tube. The 3X9 Burris is perfect for this barrel. I really need to do a trigger job on this frame as the stock setup is OK but not great. The potential is there for a one hole shooter at 100yds with the Winchester CT 165gr bullet. hangunnr
  13. Y'all can put me down for a hat and XL shirt. I'll cover a hat for JJL too... hangunnr
  14. Nope, it's a J-Point offered by JP industries. The scope and mount weight just over 2 ounces. Steve, This bird came off the farm in Culver. I hunted wednesday on a piece of property just off of 750 and Toto road. We got soaked. My buddy scored and I should of but it just wasn't in the stars for me. I'll be back out that way next saturday morning. I'd be up for some coffee if you want to meet at Castaways. hangunnr
  15. Smacked this guy this morning at 9am. 45yd shot with the trusty Win SX2 with a C-n-C XXFull tube and Win Supreme #5s. 23# with a 10" beard hangunnr
  16. If yer thinking about a WSM barrel for the Encore you can stop now.... The WSM series of cases are a bit too fat for the Encore platform. There are a couple custom smiths making barrels in WSM calibers but for down loaded handloads only, not for factory fodder. Now a 416 Rigby in an Encore sounds interesting.... hangunnr
  17. Sorry dude, using a Simpsons analogy is as weak as the guns y'all favor..... hangunnr
  18. Fret not OJR. It's my understanding that there will be a special run of camo Depends for the scopers.... hangunnr
  19. Re: Congrats to the Handgun Hunting Contest Winners: Jim, Yer reading alot more into this than there is.. I'm just having fun with you. You did see the smilies didn't you? It's all good on this end... Talk to you soon. hangunnr
  20. Re: Congrats to the Handgun Hunting Contest Winners: [ QUOTE ] I was going to sign up, but, soon realized that the contest would end before the close of season here in Ill......... ........................................................................... By the way, If you believed any of that crap, shame on you. I just like busting Charles' Chops once in a while........ Love Always JJL [/ QUOTE ] Let's peruse the rules shall we... (1) The "contest" is for current forum members only, you must have been registered as of today to be eligible. (2) You must be signed up in this thread by Oct 31 to be eligible. It will end Dec. 31. (if some of your seasons end later than that please let me know and I'll extend the finish date) (3) The game animal can be anything as long as it was taken with a handgun. (4) The winner will be determined by the signed up members. I will post a poll later assuming we have some critters taken..... Pictures of you with the harvested game will be required for your entry. If you have issues posting pictures, drop me a PM and we'll get it worked out. (5) This little thing dosen't have anything to do with any other contests currently running on this board. If you are signed up elsewhere that's cool. What takes place here is my doing and Realtree is in no way responsible. Poor little Dancing Queen, I see reading comprehension isn't yer strong suit.... JJL, Fine job of this morning, ya caught yourself a fat Hoosier with busted chops.... hangunnr
  21. Re: Congrats to the Handgun Hunting Contest Winners: [ QUOTE ] hangunnr, don't be sore...... [/ QUOTE ] Not mad or sore, more disappointed than anything. I fail to understand why people will sign up for something then never show up again. Some of those that signed up have posted in this room since I put up the original post. If they can't bother to participate there isn't much point in doing this. IF we do anything next year, things will be much different. hangunnr
  22. Re: Handgun Hunters contest..... Results..... 62 views and only one vote.... Thanks for the support... I was saving my vote in case there was a tie. Instead I'll cast it for VTBowman and declare the contest a tie. If jgbennett6 and VTBowman will PM me their home mailing addresses I have something for both of you. hangunnr
  23. Re: Pics of you Handguns? Here's my newest boomer. It's a T/C Encore chambered in 300 Win Mag. Got the barrel from VTBowman. Currently have a Burris 2-7X on it until the 3-9X gets back from Burris. hangunnr
  24. Re: Who is going to the Shot Show? Not going to go this year, but hopefully will in the future. jjl, Can't help ya with the RR t-shirt. I did however find this one just for you... hangunnr
  25. Well boys, we had a couple guys score with their short barreled guns this year. I want to send out a WELL DONE to VTBowman and jgbennet6 for their success. I was hoping we would have more people score this year but maybe next year.... The following list of members are the guys that signed up for this years contest and the only ones who's votes will count. 1. yooperkenny 2. HarvDog 3. WaCoyote 4. VTBowman 5. Born2Hunt 6. ricfirefighter 7. jgbennett6 8. ftw46 9. LifeNRA 10. WABS 11. zukebaby 12. BowtechTurkeyHunter 13. hangunnr Here's the three sucessful hunters in no particular order. 1. jgbennet6 with his NY buck. 2. VTBowman with his first M/L and first handgun kill. 3. me, hangunnr with a bonus county doe What I would like, is those that are eligible to vote to record their vote in this thread as to who you think should be this years winner. We'll run this till the end of January then announce the winner. hangunnr
