Re: Steel Targets I've shot steel for years. I used to really like plate matches but haven't found myself attending any lately. In 2003 I won the state steel plate speed shoot. I've also shot some sillywet matches. There is some fun to be had when banging steel plates at long range. I've been making my own targets and have a batch that'll be put together next spring. This is a piece of 3/8th inch thick AR500 plate that was tested to see if it would stand up to high power rifle loads........it wouldn't..... The other impacts shown are from some .44mag, 45ACP and some 40S&W. They didn't even mar the surface. This is my stock of 1/2" and 3/4" T1 armor plate. This stuff will stop the HP rifle loads. hangunnr

Re: ? About Drilling and Tapping: Your Ruger ia a pretty common gun. There isn't really any collector value so altering it isn't much of a concern. B-Square used to offer a clamp on type mount but I've heard they won't hold a scope very well. Brownells offers a drill and tap mount made for your revolver. Most 'smiths I know charge per hole for a drill and tap, usually running $10-$15 per hole. If it were me...... I'd save the Ruger as it is and go ahead and find a SB Hunter in stainless for scoping..... hangunnr

Re: Mosquito with a Cannon? [ QUOTE ] I get a kick out of yahoos that have to have a magnum and shoot 100 pound deer at less than 50 yards. [/ QUOTE ] Hmmmm....... I wonder if you feel the same about those yahoos shooting magnum muzzleloaders at 100lb deer.... hangunnr

Re: Buckhunter Pro Pistol You should be able to light Pyrodex pellets with the #11 caps your pistol uses but I feel you will be much better off with loose Pyrodex RS or P. I don't know if 777 will give consistant ignition using the #11 caps. Does Traditions offer a scope mount for your gun? A nice low powered scope would be sweet for close range gunning. hangunnr

Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? I shot Pyrodex pellets out of my Remington using #11 caps until I switched to musket caps. I didn't have any problems burning 100gr of pellets. I don't know how well the 777 pellets would light. and BTW, Welcome to the Realtree forums!!! hangunnr

Re: New wood for the Remmy... [ QUOTE ] What did you use to cut the rod groove? [/ QUOTE ] I set a router bit up in the drill press. Made a crude jig to guide the forearm and went to cutting. I opened up the front end with a rat tail file. I'm going to shoot it as is now then after deer season do a pillar and glass bed job on the action. I would also like to inlet the second rod guide a little deeper. hangunnr

Picked up a new Boyds laminated thumbhole stock off another forum for cheap and installed my Rem 45cal into it. Had to open the barrel channel up and cut a channel for the ram rod. I added a second ram rod guide at the front of the stock to protect the wood while reinserting the rod. I think it turned out pretty nice. This gun was a good shooter with the tupperware factory stock. I hope it gets even better with this stock. hangunnr

Re: How many Mr. MoM dads do we have here? I've been a single parent of 2 girls since 1990. My girls are 17 and 19 now so there isn't a whole lot of looking after these days. I've done and seen it all over the years..... You aint lived until you've sat in with all the other mommies at a sporting event.....LMAO hangunnr

Re: Ouch!! We've got an old boy in deer camp that'll creep the scope everytime on a shot at a deer. He'll shoot fine off the bench but gets too close when crunch time comes. You'll know immediatly when he comes back to camp if he got a shot or not..... hangunnr

Re: Buckhunter Pro Pistol I was considering one but wanted to be able to handle one before diving in. I ended up going with the Encore ML pistol barrel which has turned out to be a fine shooter. Please be sure to let us know how it performs. hangunnr

Re: Attention Indiana handgun deer hunters I don't doubt that it's nothing more than a typo. Still haven't heard back from the state. Makes you wonder what other typo's could be present.... hangunnr

Re: When was the last time..... I thought I'd heard that they weren't doing it in schools anymore. My daughter tells that they say it every day along with the 10 seconds of silence. hangunnr

Found something kinda interesting while looking through the current hunting regulations. This first picture is a photo of the INDR website showing what weapons are legal for hunting whitetails this year. I know, you're saying..... so what? Here's what....... This picture is a actual photo of the handbook issued by the DNR. It dosen't show handguns as being legal during the firearms antlered season. Again, so what...... The so what is that CO's in the field usually carry the handbook and use it as the bible when enforcing the rules while in the field. This could result in a citation being issued or worse an arrest being made. I'm awaiting an email response from the DNR for clairification... hangunnr

Re: Looking to buy another Ruger [ QUOTE ] ...... I'm interested in mounting a scope on it. Does anyone have any knowledge of how I would go about doing that? What kind of bases and what type of scope? [/ QUOTE ] Natchez lists a mount for your Blackhawk. I don't have any personal experience with this mount so I can't verify how good it is. A nice small fixed power 2X or 4X or possibly a 2-7 variable would be nice on the Blackhawk. I wouldn't go too large on the scope or the gun will be very top heavy. You might check eBite for used scopes. I've purchased a couple Burris scopes for way less than retail. hangunnr
