Re: Jack rabbits the hard way... ricfirefighter, We spent the night in Rapid City, SD. on our trip out. Seemed like a nice town. We stopped by Mt. Rushmore on the way out the next morning. Real pretty area. Word of advice...... Don't eat dinner at the restaurant in the Alex Johnson hotel. The service was terrible and the food was mediocre at best..... hangunnr

The following pix show the last few minutes of my antelope hunt last week in Wyoming. Steve and JJL were sitting above the waterhole watching the whole thing unfold. You can credit JJL with the pictures. When the buck was approaching he was below my line of sight so I didn't know he was around until he crested the hill right above the water. Jim was snapping pictures as he came in. At this point the buck is a mere 20yds in front of me. At this point I'm likely at full draw finding a sweet spot to deliver the Goldtip.... Here's what the Rocket tipped Goldtip found. The action that took place when the arrow hit home was one of the wildest things I've ever seen either in person or on video. The buck was standing at exactly 20yds quarting with his head down in the water. I put the arrow in between the inside of the shoulder and the neck. When it hit the buck launched himself a good 10ft into the waterhole. The flow of blood was fantastic. The water literally turned red as he made his way out. He then piled up after about 20yds. I was fortunate to also harvest a fine looking doe earlier the same day. All in all a great way to spend a week. hangunnr

While out in Wyoming on a archery Antelope hunt we had an extra day to spend at the rifle range. I took my S&W M&P 40 cal along and busted a couple jacks while walking out to the targets. What a blast. I got 2 rabbits for 3 shots fired with this bunny being the biggest. If you want a challenge, try rabbit hunting with your carry gun... ......... NO comments about the lily white legs..... hangunnr

.....Get's shared with the world... As some of you may know JJL and I had the chance to share a week of our lives chasing Pronghorns in Wyoming with Steve Beilgard. Let me tell ya... Steve is a world class gentleman. We were welcomed as if we were old friends and fed like family members. Steve and JJL worked their tails off in an effort to get a good buck in front of me for 2 days. Jim was fortunate to have a pig of a buck come in on the first day. He let the Montec fly and after a mere 60yd recovery wrapped his hands around the horns of a sure Pope and Young buck. I didn't have a shot at a good buck until the second morning but I just couldn't make myself take a 45+ yard shot. We spent the remainder of the day trying to do a spot and stalk but came up empty. On the third day I was able to fill both my doe and buck tags with the buck taping out at a tad over 12". Not a big one but the show he put on with the impact of the arrow will burn this hunt into my mind for a long time. I'll have a pic and story posted in the bow hunting forum later. Steve, I would like to again thank you and Rilda (sp?) for the hospitality you showed us and really hope we get the chance to crack a beer and tell some more lies in the future. Thankyou sir, hangunnr

Re: Sig Sauer P229 .40 cal Congrats on the new job! I haven't spent any quality time with a Sig229. Sorry. Just listen to your instructor. I'm sure they'll teach you the basics. There are advanced clinics offered such as Thunder Ranch that can teach you advanced technique. hangunnr

Re: handgun ballistics I don't know of any sites off hand but you can expect somewhere around 30-50 fps per inch of barrel length less than a rifle barrel. The best thing you could do is to chronograph your loads then plug them into a ballistic calculator. hangunnr

Re: $2700 Muzzleloader Ya know $1600-$2800 for a custom rifle isn't all that bad. I know of quite a few people that have way more than that into a centerfire rifle. Why should it be any different for the ML guys. You can kill any deer out there with a box stock Rem 700 but that dosen't stop guys from dumping thousands into them. I like the looks of that 40X. Would I spend that much.....doubt it, but there are apparently some that would. hangunnr

Re: Need help with my AR-15 [ QUOTE ] This is probably a dumb question, but is there a hole in the barrel at the end where the gas tube block is? In othere words, will the cleaner come out into the barrel if sprayed into the receiver end of the gas tube? thanks again, Trav [/ QUOTE ] Nope, it's not a dumb question. Yes, there is a gas port in the top of the barrel. This is what i was refering to eariler. The front sight / gas block combo you have has a gas port that MUST align with the hole in the barrel. If these parts don't line up there won't be enough gas pressure / volume to completely cycle the action. IMO the only way to assure the correct placement of the gas block is to remove the part and take precise measurements. hangunnr

Re: Looking to buy another Ruger I have a Blackhawk 357 but don't have the 9mm conversion cylinder. I would have to think that accuracy with the 9mm cylinder would be lackluster at best. You'd be running a .355 diameter bullet down a .357 bore. The .357 Blackhawk is a very pleasant shooter even with full house mag loads. I have Hogue grips on mine which are IMO a vast improvement over the stock wood or plastic. hangunnr
