  1. Have you ever wanted to hunt elk but don't really know how or where? Here is your opportunity. Disclaimer: This is not Realtree sanctioned or sponsored. Just some guys from the forum. Specifics: Bull elk in Southern Colorado, units 80/81, Second Rifle season, October 20 - 28, 2012. Over the Counter tags, Non-resident cost of $576 for the tag and $10 for a Habitat Stamp. Partial Requirements. Hunter Education if born after Jan. 1, 1949. See 2012 Colorado Big Game brochure for more information or ask specific questions and I will get the answer. We will plan on camping, Pro Staffer Steve Beilgard and I will both have big tents with heaters. We will be near the "town" of Platoro that has cabins that can be rented fairly reasonable. They also have a small general store and restaurant, or at least they did 4 years ago. As in hunting anywhere, there are no guarantees that elk will be seen or killed. But here is a picture of an elk that my buddy killed in 2007 in this area. There were three of us hunting and this is the only one killed. Here are a few scenery pics of what the area looks like. The last one is in front of the cabin we stayed in. Alternate options include cow elk hunting and or mule deer hunting. If you are interested in either of those you have to apply through the regular Colorado draw. The application deadline is on April 3, 2012. The last few years for deer you needed atleast 2 preference points to have a chance to draw a deer tag and for cow elk tags you have a chance with 0 points. Deer tags for NR run $349 and cow elk tags are $351. Will need the $10 Habitat Stamp with either one. We did this a few years ago (2006) and had a pretty good turnout that resulted in 1 elk being killed. I think we can do better this year. Post up if you are interested or have questions.
  2. I would think that rather than having a safety harness on, a parachute might be more appropriate.
  3. I laughed, for what it is worth.
  4. The NR Wyoming elk results were posted this morning. As expected I am getting a refund.
  5. 87 Jeep miles unknown hunting/play. 2006 GMC Duramax 208,000 was my truck, gave it to Jake to drive in August 2010, I just started driving it again last month. 2011 Chevy Duramax 68,000 miles, Started driving in August 2010, loaned it to my father last month when his truck got stolen. Should get it back in about a week. 2012 Camaro, 800 miles, surprised Jake with this last month. He was happy.
  6. I will only say that PLEASE do not let your feelings be overly influenced by people that you only "know" through the internet. It is fine to listen to what we have to say, but in all fairness, we only have one side of the story, yours, so everybody is going to pretty much agree with you. Reading through this thread kind of reminds me of a snowball going down a hill. If you are married, I would suggest some third party counciling before divorce if there is any chance to save your marriage. If you are not married, then obviously, it is a lot easier to just walk away. Whatever you choose, I wish both of you the best. Breakups on any level are never easy.
  7. That sucks Chris. Everything happens for a reason though, and if this does happen, heres to bigger and better things in the future.
  8. Good video. Got the important part in it.
  9. Obviously haven't got any draw results back this year, but with most of the tags I am applying for, I really imagine I will come up empty handed. One of my options that I haven't completely figured out is I have 6 points for deer in Co. Thinking I am getting close to a place where I might as well use them, just don't know for sure where or when. If I do miss out on all my draws, Colorado OTC elk will probably be looking pretty good by October. We might just have to work out a plan Charlie.
  10. Best news I have heard in quite a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Kind of see the makings here of a Colorado RT elk or deer hunt.
  12. I came up with 122, but since that is already taken, I will say 121 4/8

    Got Lucky

Got an email this morning from Camera Land that read as follows.... Good morning Jeff, Or should I say, great morning? You are the Grand Prize Winner of the #59760 Swarovski Z5 Series 3.5-18x44 - BT-Plex Reticle Riflescope in our web drawing. According to their website that is a $1549 scope. Called them and it is being shipped out today. I think it is going to be a good day.
  14. Man Steve, I just saw this. You got prayers coming from here. If you need anything or want to talk, give me a call.
  15. Thanks PDR, I didn't have the time to do that, but that was the point I was trying to get across.
  16. To hunt sheep in any state, you are going to have to either be awful lucky to draw a tag or plan on shelling out some serious coin. I remeber watching a show last year from a Montana hunt where the gentleman had been applying for over 20 years before he got drawn. Probably your best odds for drawing would be either New Mexico or Idaho. These states do not use bonus or preference points (at least I know NM doesn't, Idaho doesn't for deer & elk, not completely sure on sheep and goat) although you are still going against tremendous odds. But as I was once told, somebody will get drawn and it may as well be you. If you don't mind taking out a mortgage, you can look into Alaska, Canada or buy a Govenor's tag from one of the state's that sell them. Anyways, good luck and if you do happen to get a tag, please share the hunt with us.
  17. Pretty easy. Bought points for antelope for Jake and I no problem. Had some issues trying to buy an elk point for Jake, but after a couple of days went back in and tried again and it went through just fine. Now I just have to decide what I want to do for elk for me. Thanks for posting the link.
  18. We're back, no blood. It was a tough hunt, the rut hadn't kicked in yet. Jake did get a shot at a real nice 3 pointer with brow tines that was in the 24 -26 inch range. The excuses for the miss include 148 yard shot into the sun, using a rigid bipod on unlevel ground, and maybe one of the biggest, after rethinking our procession of loading the muzzle loader, I know we did not run any patches through the barrel before we loaded it and imagine that didn't help. Bottom line we saw at least one deer each hunt, got a shot at a nice buck, put a stalk on another decent buck that didn't pan out, got an upclose look at an abandoned gold mine and spent about a week doing what we both love. That equals a successful hunt in my book. Will load a few pictures when I get them off the camera.
  19. That sounds good. Made it to Benson, just outside of Tucson. About 950 miles. Woke up around 11 last night and realized I did have everything loaded, forgot the sleeping bags. That would have been bad. When we left this morning we made it about 1/2 mile when Jake remembered we didn't have pillows either. Since then it has been a good trip so far.
  20. We got the trailer loaded with everything but the kitchen sink and will be heading out early in the morning for Jacob's youth ML mule deer hunt in Arizona. The season actually opened on the 16th through the 31st, and in this case later in the season is better to try and hit the rut. A friend was out hunting it last weekend and said the rut hadn't started yet, hopefully it will get kicked in here soon. Will have a story and pics when we get back, just hope there will be a big rack to go with it.
  21. Here is a link. Looks like it you can apply online this year. http://www.azgfd.gov/regs/elkregs.pdf
  22. A little late, but hope you had a good one, Pete.
