  1. Re: Elk Contest Team 1 Good luck on the hunt! Hope the spasm stop. Hope to see some victory pictures of you with a nice bull!
  2. Re: Rifle killed it\'s first scope The best rep with REALLY big bores....at least on AR.....is the Leupold fixed 2.5x. I have one on my 375. Not a big kicker.....but it works well I am a firm believer in Leupolds. I have them on almost all my rifles. My 338 wears a 2.5-8x VX-III. And it performs flawlessly after several hundred rounds. I just have not seen any POOR indications from any leupold product I own.
  3. Re: Elk Contest Team 1 JUst a month to go! I am really looking forward to gettting away from work & back into teh mountains again.
  4. Re: Elk Contest Team 1 I am here. I had some computer issues that kept me off line for a while Loking forward to my Colorado hunt!
  5. Re: Much better day at the range Looks great strut! I have been out of the loop for a few weeks due to a computer melt down. I just got the new puter up & running. Looks like those groundhogs best watch out for the heavy artilery LOL
  6. Re: 375 back to the bench........... Sounds great strut! What kinda groups are you getting? I put a simms recoil pad on my 338 yesterday. It makes practice WAY more comfortable. Are you still using the factory pad on your 375?
  7. Re: remington 700 lv sf Nice rigs. I have a 22-250 LVS, I also use a fixed 12x leupold, but it is the fine plex. I have had no problem seeing & shooting groundhogs to 500+ yards. THey are great rifles. Let us know how yours does.
  8. Re: Took the .375 to the bench....... [ QUOTE ] Sorry. No can do. These Armstrong county 'chucks are classified as dangerous game. No sub-375 guns allowed as we'd really rather not have to follow one wounded into the underbrush. Bring your H&H. [/ QUOTE ] Well.........if 375 is the lower limit........I can do that too! It would be best, just in case of a charge LOL
  9. Re: Took the .375 to the bench....... [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Next time I'll have my 375 Win and both 460's ready. If we don't kill any, we'll make more noise than anyone else. hangunnr [/ QUOTE ] I can pretty much guarantee that. [/ QUOTE ] Hi Strut, Glad you are feeling a bit better. Sounds like you got a nice toy there If you fellas are looking for some more help with you "big bore Ground Hog Safari", let me know. I plan on using the 338 I am hunting elk with this fall on some of them. I will practice with Hornadys tho.......the partitions I am going to hunt with cost WAY to much to use on hogs
  10. Re: 2006 elk contest sign-up Iron Buck (Bill) Colorado Unit 75 Oct 14-18 1st season rifle.(first time without my bow in a long time ) bull/cow Rifle: Remington 700 BDL (Left Hand) 338 Win Mag. with 225 Nosler Partition handloads. Scope, 2.5-8x Leupold VariX-III.
  11. Re: .17\'s I'll second the vote for the Ruger. I have a 77/22 that is just plain accurate. Very fun to shoot & great practice. They make it in a 17 as well. The plain 22LR is MUCH cheaper to shoot. I have mine for practice & varmint control around the house. I have had no problem dusting coons & groundhogs out to 100 yards with a bit of hold over. The 17 would shoot flatter.........but the ammo costs WAY more. JUst something else to consider.
  12. Re: Gun Selections 1. Kimber 2. Ruger M77 25-06 3. Ruger CArbine 44 mag.....seems like a fun rifle. Plinking & home defense. Can't hunt with semis here in PA
  13. Re: My new deer rifle (pics) Nice 88! The first rifle I ever used for hunting was my uncles Model 88 in 308. I always liked that rifle...........but he'd never part woth it! The 88 is one I have on my dream list of guns to have someday. I'd love to have one in 358.
  14. Re: How much different with a 24inch barrel There is a very interesting discussion over at 24 HR Campfire hunting forums regarding this issue. Here is the link: Velocity loss-Cutting barrels Read the posts by Mule Deer . He is John Barsness, a gun scribe of good rep. He puts a lot of insight into what is fact & what is fictiion on this topic.
  15. Re: Nicest looking factory rifle Gotta love those old 99s! I own three, 2 pre WWII 99EG 300 savages & a post mil 99F 308. Great rifles. Just fun to have afield My 1936 99EG going for a walk LOL. Never did catch up to this buck.
  16. Re: RT Forum Turkey Contest Final Results [ QUOTE ] Iron Buck--27***Consolation Prize*** [/ QUOTE ] HHMMMM...............Consolation Prize. Could this be for the SMALLEST turkey overall LOL I am sure I must hold some kind of RT forum record now. Taking both the overall bird two years ago to the smallest this year. A feat that only I could accomplish What exactly is the consolation prize anyway?
  17. Re: Elk hunting. Colorado 1st season rifle. I can't wait!!!!
  18. Re: OH BABY! RockChucker, Here I come! Congrats on the new toy! I got mine as a gift from one of my clients. Handloading has become a fun hobby. Good luck
  19. Re: Federal Ammo Just looked at my box of 7mm mauser ammo from Federal. Blue box........it does say Power Shok. BAsically the same stuff as the old classic line. Shoots great from my Ruger.
  20. Re: Federal Ammo The blue box is their basic (classic)ammo. With base grade not premium grade bullets. I use it for several rifles of mine that shoot it into MOA or slightly better. No deer will ever know it was killed with the economy grade ammo & not the premium stuff LOL I have always had great luck with Federal ammo in all grades.
  21. Re: Project came home....at long last....... [ QUOTE ] It's a strange compulsion, ain't it.........the urge to build a gun twice as big as you'll probably ever need?????? Why???? Because we can!!! [/ QUOTE ] Hey.........SOMTIMES those chucks charge and you have to be able to stop them LOL I have killed groundhogs with my 375 HH before. As well as with my 300 win mag , 338 win mag & 7mag. IMHO there is no better practice with a hunting rifle than sniping groundhogs.
  22. Re: Project came home....at long last....... Don, I was wondering if you would get this gun back before my Whelen came LOL Looks nice. When you are up to shooting it maybe we can organize anotherr gathering. I wouldn't mind seeing how it feels compared to my 375HH A-Bolt. Think they'd work on Indiana Co. Black bears? Or is CRF an absolute must have LOL
  23. Re: Nicest looking factory rifle I do agree that quality at Remington had gone down the past few years. But that is also true of most other manufacturers as well. Shrinking market for gun sales cause some cost sutting measures to keep margins up. The newer 700s I have seen this year, CDLs, no "J" lock junk..........seem to be getting better in quality to my eye. But back to nice lines............Here is my Ruger 1A 7x57 mauser. Just plain sexy And it shoots well to.
  24. Re: Nicest looking factory rifle [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I'm kinda partial to this one..... hangunnr [/ QUOTE ] The whole time I was waiting for your picture to load, 'Gunnr (gotta love dial-up), I was imagining something with lots of 24K gold!! As far as "purty" goes........too purty to shoot........these are nice to look at. [/ QUOTE ] Hey Gunner, What is that thing? Strut, would you back be up to shooting it yet? Looks like it would put a dent in the old ground hog population LOL.
  25. What do you guys think is the nicest looking factory rifle? My vote goes towards the single shots. Like the Ruger 1A or the Dakota model 10. Sweet little rifles. What are your thoughts?
