Shuck 'em first or hull and all?

I put out three Moultrie's this year from Oct 1 thru end of season mid-Dec. Rain storms, wind, blizzards. Not any problems at all and no sign of weather inside when they were checked.

Nice buck.

Supreme Court ruled last year that (subject to change from future Supreme Courts) they can't arbitrarily legislate the 2nd Amendement (the second most important amendment to the founding fathers) away. What they (socialists) will do is tax it away. Increase taxes on guns and ammo to the point the average American can't afford to own/buy or possess. Remember the BostonTea Party? Remember Red Dawn? And, I'm not a right wing extremists. But, I can change.

First, and again, well said. Second, Thank You For Your Service. And, ain't it amazing how the Johnny-come-lately seem to all have the same frame of mind? But, then again, I could be wrong.

At the time he was portrayed as a doddering fool - but history now remembers Reagan as a great communicator and statesman and credited as being single-handedly responsible for ending the Cold War and tearing down the Berlin Wall. I believe history will look back and see that Bush 43 wasn't as bad as everyone made him out to be. History will realize he inherited the forthcoming 9/11 and wasn't responsible for it - but he stood tall and reacted the way he should have and kept us from further attack and harm - will the Messiah be able to say the same? History will realize he wasn't solely responsible for global warming, Katrina, Gustav, or the Tsunami. History will recognize that he freed the peoples of two nations from oppressive regimes and that, while WMDs have not been publicly been admitted to having been found, they were and so were the tens of thousands of bodies of Sodom's (spelling intentional) own contrymen who died at his hands. Even if WMDs were never found the dead of Iraq dictated our going in and removing Sodom from power. I would venture to say we will soon find ourselves in Africa - not because of WMDs but rather because of the same genocide we saw in Iraq - only this time for and because of color. Speaking of and as a side note: I understand that because of differences of faith Muslims consider us infidels. But, how many times throughout history have we infidels come to the aid of Muslims (Bosnia, Croatia, Afghanistan and Iraq as a few recent examples) yet they despise us so much? History will realize that while the housing and financial collapse occurred on his watch they were actually the result of the CRA (community reinvestment act) which were 30-year old democratic policies enacted under Carter and Clinton requiring lenders to loan to those who couldn't make the payments and which ultimately came crashing down around our ears and for which Bush 43 was blamed for. History will realize that up thru Bush 43 we enjoyed the protections under the 2nd Amendment - until they were either legislated (or failing that - taxed) away. Yes, Bush 43 made mistakes. But, he's human and never put himself up as anything but - unlike our (or the media's) new Messiah. And, B-43 was willing to take a stand and did what he thought was right rather than do what was popular. He had substance - something we won't be seeing for a while.

Spent four days (Jan 1-4) of Kansas' anterless season and saw nothing until last few minutes of third day. Shot what looked like a doe at 160 - ended up being a button buck. Then, today as I was leaving the farm (as Murphy's Law would have it), I looked out on the alfalfa field and there 120 yards out was the plamated 12-point caught on the trail cam above. Standing there pretty as you please and I could have swore he had a grin on his face and his tongue stuck out at me. We'll see who's grinning next year. In spite of the hard hunt this year it was still a good time being out there and enjoying the opportunity. It was a pleasure hunting with you all. Doug "oldksnarc" Murphy #2 - Team Put'emdown

The best one I ever received was my second daughter on Dec 22, 33 years ago. Would have to agree it was hard to beat the smiles and excitement on my kids faces on christmas morning. Until now that is. Now it's the smiles and excitement on the faces of my grandkids and great-grandkid. And I'm only 55. Look at the years ahead that I have to look forward to.

Exactly. It hasn't and probably won't come to light. At least for some time. I deer hunt with a congressman who serves on the House intelligence committee. It is amazing the amount of information he has that we don't - and that was without his sharing any sensitive information. And, as has been said, most of that information the average citizen doesn't need to know because of the paranoia and panic it would create.

How close can you get to a running deer????
oldksnarc replied to Flintlock1776's topic in Deer Hunting
I was sitting against the base of a tree in full camo and scent free first day of season - no pressure yet. A doe and her fawn were grazing along the edge of the field toward me. Doe was about 10 feet out and never knew I was there. Fawn sniffed me knee and then my face - then continued on. Talk about increasing the pulse. -
Only way I've had duck that I cared for was: Cook in crock pot for about 3 months to get all the grease out then pull it apart like pulled pork and put back in crock pot with favorite BBQ sauce for another couple hours and serve on buns.

And, remember - it was a fairy tale.

Here are a couple of the bigger ones we hoped to see during the day. We nicknamed this one crab-claw because of the extra point at the end of the left main beam. Straight-on. Can't see all points on this palmated 12 point.

Not with mine. I'm done. It was a very hard year. All the big ones we saw were on the trail cams after dark. One pic of a good one during the day - but all the rest were at night. Been hunting a large 10 point for 3 years. Saw him once on trail cam but never during the day. Saw a couple other nice 10 points and several large 8's all at night. Not sure what was wrong this year. We have a 12 day season and I used up most of it trying to get one. We usually have to pick and choose what we want to shoot. This year I only saw four deer the first seven days - two does and two spikes. We had half to full moon the first 7 days and then a one-day blizzard. Moon started coming up later after 7th day and seemed like there was a lot more movement after the blizzard - but we still didn't see the big ones. 8th and 9th days saw a small 8 point, a spike and a huge 10-point that had lost his left side at some point. 10th day a larger 3 and 1/2 year 8 point came out and after several minutes of self-debate decided to shoot. Decision was based on: next day was forecasted for 40-50 mph winds with same and plunging temps for the following (final) day. Plus, there were carcasses found in the area so the poachers were out in force and may have had something to do with the nocturnal patterns. Decided one in the freezer and on the scoreboard was better than waiting for the January doe season. He's a typical 8 but will only count 7. Once I got up to him I saw he broke a brow tine at some point and it won't make the 1" minimum. I'll be able to take up to four doe in January - but, since only one counts, I got one for 5 points plus 7 for scorable points for a total of 12 points. Best I could do considering the season this year. I'll post qualifying pics as soon as I figure out how to download new camera. Will also post some of the "possibles" - they're worth seeing. But, here he is at the processors.

I've been hunting with a friend for about fifteen years. The place has been in his family since 1890 and has about 1000 acres and the house was originally built in 1898. He grew up there and they use the farmhouse several times a year when his brothers come back for turkey and quail/pheasant seasons. Whole family is there for thanksgiving and when that's over and most everybody is gone - it becomes deer camp. It has several permanent stands and we have some that we move around as needed. Everyone hunts on their own and we meet back at the farmhouse in the evening for supper, cards and cocktails. Not really roughing it - indoor toilet, showers and satellite TV. No phone except for cell. But, it is a blast and our ritual.

I hear that. I keep seeing what you guys have dropped and I can't wait. Didn't get to go during muzzleloader so have to wait until regular firearms which opens Dec 3 here in Kansas. I leave Friday to go home for Tday week then head out for deer camp on Sunday. Spend Monday and Tuesday double checking blinds and trying to determine patterns - then hunt Wednesday for 12 days. This will be the third year for the one I'm after. Had a shot two years ago and blew it. Saw him three times last year but never a good shot. Saw him about a month ago silhouetted on a ridge at dusk. Wow! Saw a ton of deer Saturday night when I went down to fill feeders and change trail-cam cards. Three 10 pointers (one really nice one), half a dozen 8s (a couple real good ones) and between 20-30 does. All the bucks were following single does so the ruts on here. I should catch the tail end of it. If nothing else I'll have a doe down on the final evening on Dec 14 - or I'll have 4 doe tags to fill in the January anterless hunt.

You dehydrated it. Did you try to re-hydrate it?
