  1. Thanks. Feeling better, incrementally. It's tough getting old and fighting viruses without a spleen.
  2. Hang in there Lewis. My sister had a similar situation, so I kind of know what you're going through.
  3. Good luck William. One of these days when I'm done paying 4 sets of tuition, I'll be able to afford some land, but that's not going to happen for a few years I'm afraid.
  4. Got a couple freezes here. Zapped all my delicate flowers and non hardy vegetables. First snow around here is usually around my birthday, November 18th.
  5. I stayed home all weekend, including Friday, battling some sort of virus. Friday and Saturday evening I watched 11 deer filter into my neighbor's field. Nine does and fawns, 2 bucks. The first buck was smallish and he was hanging around a doe. Eight of the does and fawns were off by themselves, while the buck had the one doe all to himself until a bigger buck showed up. These deer were easily 700-800 yards away, so I couldn't really tell points, but the 2nd buck stiff leg walked up to the smaller buck. They circled each other, posturing, then they went at it. At first it was just head butting a little, but as the fight went on, you could tell they were getting serious, heads down on the ground and a lot of shoving. I sat and watched them shove each other for about 10 minutes. The bigger buck ran the little guy off, but he came back and actually got the bigger buck on the run once. The big buck won the last fight, running off the little buck for good, or at least as long as I could see as it go too dark to watch anymore. The boys are getting antsy up here in Ohio. I hope I get to feeling better and I hope to get some time to hunt soon.
  6. I've only gotten lucky on one head shot with no spray; I must have severed the spine or hit it perfectly in the oblangata. I live trap them all the time because they destroy my sweet corn. I like the live trap/drown version, but I don't have a 50 gallon drum anymore, so I can't drown them as of now. Honestly, I just make sure my trap is set down wind of the house and hope for the best.
  7. Really cool. Congratulations!
  8. Wow. Wicked story bud. Glad you're ok. Scary stuff.
  9. Got out Tuesday and last night. Haven't seen a deer from the stand yet this year. Big cool down this weekend, hopefully it will get the boys out looking for love.
  10. Oklahoma is stacked with giants from what I see and hear. I'd take you up on the offer, but principals have a funny way of wanting you in class during school days. I can't get off work like tire salesmen can.
  11. Sure hope you find him Alan. Good luck.
  12. Congrats! I'll have to look at the pic when I get home.
  13. I was able to get out Sunday evening. Temps were in the mid 70's. I saw a squirrel and a duck, and about 10,000 red wing black birds. Might get a bit of a cool down Friday. We'll see.
  14. 80's last few days, down to high 60's today. Welcome to Ohio.
  15. So, maybe you can persuade her to wear camo flip flops.
  16. Too cloudy for central Ohio too, although we did catch about 10 minutes when it was about half eclipsed.
  17. What can I say. William needed a few alternates to even teams up, and you guys needed a 5th. Hoping to get out at least as much as I did last year. Still pretty busy at home. 4 in college now including my wife, 2 sons recovering from surgery, daughter dropped rowing, but picked up power lifting, and my youngest is 3rd trumpet as an 8th grader in his high school band, so my life really revolves around them right now, especially band. Supposed to get a big cool down tomorrow, so I might try and get out before the weekend, possibly Sunday. I know Saturday is out with 2 band events. Trail cam is only picking up 2 fawns I've been seeing all summer. They apparently lost momma very early in their lives. I see them almost daily at all times of the day. Not much movement around me other than that, but I'm hopeful as the days get shorter and cooler.
  18. That would be a nice one to put a tag on. Hopefully no fence posts in the area.
  19. I touched my bow the other day. I was getting it out of the way to get at my thermacell for dove hunting. I have to get some practice in soon. Season opens next Saturday. Depends on weather whether or not I'll sit.
  20. Went out last Saturday, but pretty much got skunked. I never fired the gun. My 2 buddies got both birds that flew within range. Hoping these two cold fronts that are coming through will bring some birds down.
