I stayed home all weekend, including Friday, battling some sort of virus.
Friday and Saturday evening I watched 11 deer filter into my neighbor's field. Nine does and fawns, 2 bucks. The first buck was smallish and he was hanging around a doe. Eight of the does and fawns were off by themselves, while the buck had the one doe all to himself until a bigger buck showed up. These deer were easily 700-800 yards away, so I couldn't really tell points, but the 2nd buck stiff leg walked up to the smaller buck. They circled each other, posturing, then they went at it. At first it was just head butting a little, but as the fight went on, you could tell they were getting serious, heads down on the ground and a lot of shoving. I sat and watched them shove each other for about 10 minutes. The bigger buck ran the little guy off, but he came back and actually got the bigger buck on the run once. The big buck won the last fight, running off the little buck for good, or at least as long as I could see as it go too dark to watch anymore.
The boys are getting antsy up here in Ohio. I hope I get to feeling better and I hope to get some time to hunt soon.
