  1. If it's looking away from me, maybe. I have on one deer that I can remember. I broke her back. Typically I just wait or pass.
  2. Seems to me someone will have a record of who hunts what area. I would contact that person and see if the blazer tacks are theirs, and if not, check out the spot. If another hunter is in the area, I'd respect their area and stay out.

    My Saturday

Steve--You could be right, and that's maybe why Wisconsin doesn't win the conference. Frank--I thought about that too, oddly enough. I might have to use the Row Bucks! cheer next time.

    My Saturday

Just a follow-up to my post about watching my daughter row for The Ohio State University. We had a good time. Turns out rowing isn't the best for spectating, as you just stand on the shore and scream "GO BUCKS' as they row by, but it was fun. Here's a couple pictures from the event. Had to snap a picture of her muscles while she wasn't looking. Apparently rowing is good for the latissimus.
  5. I hear you William. Matt's state band competition was last Saturday. To be honest, my motivation to hunt is seriously on the wane in the last few years for some reason. I still like it, but I'm not nearly as into it as I was when I was younger. I get a lot more satisfaction watching my kids compete in all their activities.
  6. Looks like I'll be giving up a Saturday during the rut to go watch my daughter row for The Ohio State University. Katie's been working pretty hard balancing school, job and varsity athletics as a freshman. Pretty proud of her. I'll post some pictures of Saturday's scrimmage if I can.
  7. Don't try and figger 'em, just kill 'em. Great deer!
  8. Just wondering if any of you have experienced the situation we are running into here in central Ohio. One spot I hunt has typical late October, early November activity, good deer numbers, chasing, cruising, scraping, rubbing... Yesterday, at another spot a buddy and I sat for a combined 16 hours and saw 3 deer. Even more surprisingly, we bumped a 130" class 8pt out of his bed and he was standing over a doe, suggesting that area is on lockdown already. These two spots are separated by about 40 miles. We thought it was weird, but can come up with no other explanation. I've seen this happen before too.
  9. My wife always says "but you get an extra hour of sleep..." and I always say, "unless you're a deer hunter." I generally do not like the time changes. In the fall, I lose an hour in the stand as the sun sets earlier, and I have to get up earlier in the morning to beat the sunrise.
  10. Great deer Frank! That's a heck of a shot at 50 yards!
  11. It was 82 went I went out yesterday. Worked up quite a sweat, figured I wouldn't see anything until maybe last light. Turns out, I saw quite a few deer, passed on a decent doe; I was waiting on her suitor that never showed.
  12. I shot a deer 2 weeks ago while I was grilling steaks. I've never done that before, does that count?
  13. I finally cleared my plate to go out hunting the next two weeks, but it's darn near 80 today. I'd love to go out, but I just have to wonder if the deer will be moving at all.
  14. Hunt closer to the runways? If you can see deer, and they're not blowing or alarming while you hunt, scent isn't your problem. Just set up closer to the trails.
  15. Gonna' be near 80 today, but supposed to cool off quite a bit later this week, which is perfect as the deer are starting to move around here.
  16. Nice! Apparently no fence posts out there.
  17. Doesn't work all the time, but occasionally it does. I use estrous during the rut, but that's about it as the others haven't proven to me that the cost is worth the result. Quite honestly, any urine, including human, will work to some degree.
  18. They sure were/are pretty Ross.
  19. It was a lot of fun hunting with you guys too. Maybe next time I won't get stampeded like I did.
  20. Cool. They hang around the big rivers in these parts. Not too many beat the drake woody for looks, that's for sure.
  21. Yep, I got one. Fired up the grill at 6:30 to cook some steaks, looked out back and there were 4 deer standing there. I shot the biggest one that was in range.
