  1. Sorry to hear of your loss Orlan. Sure is tough watching all those vets pass. We owe so much to their service.
  2. Probably around -10 last night. Wind chills in the -30's have closed school for me past 2 days. Had a pipe and bathtub trap freeze yesterday. Luckily it was in the garage and easy to access. Hair dryer and some well placed insulation did the trick, but now I know my first summer project.
  3. Humbled that you guys thought of me, I appreciate it. Oldest son just had his MRI, no results yet. As for my year, I felt like I was in undergrad again. I covered over 30 hours of coursework this past year, and as such, I wasn't in the forums much at all over the past year. 2014 should be a better year for me with free time, heck, I might even get to hunt next year
  4. I need a scope that will automatically range fence posts, so...
  5. Awesome deer man! Congrats!
  6. Got the day off. Ice and sleet this morning, and it's snowing pretty good now.
  7. I hear you William. I hope the ice stays away, nothing good comes of it. And, I dare say 50% of the snow days I've gotten over the years is due to media hype. It's sensational, and preys on the feelings of all the moms out there.
  8. June, July and August? Good guess, but no. A teacher's favorite 3 words are Winter Storm Warning.
  9. We got around 3 or 4 inches I'd say. The wind whipped it into drifts today. I'm going to take a walk out back tomorrow to see what's moving. Hoping to see some pheasant tracks.

    Ohio

I'll be sitting out back with the Encore, but I don't think I'll be going anywhere else.
  11. "The more time you spend talking about what you have been doing, the less time you have to spend doing what you have been talking about. Eventually, you spend more and more time talking about less and less until you spend all your time talking about nothing." --Norman Augustine Pretty sure I'm guilty of this over the last 2 years, lol. Probably why my wife sent it to me.
  12. Thanks folks. Truly appreciate being remembered by my hunting brothers and sisters, even though I don't hunt anymore, lol. Big 5-O for me, sometimes it's hard to believe I'm still alive.
  13. Not able to get out at all this season, so I'm not seeing much from the stand obviously. Not seeing road kill (road kill I do see is does) or deer on the morning commutes either. My kids are reporting seeing little bucks here and there, but I've yet to see a whopper, dead or alive.

    No big deer in Ohio...
  15. Been there. Luckily docs now have my calcium in check with the parathyroids gone, no more stones for me unless the parathyroids grow back. Lithotripsy is the way to go for sure, but the pain before is the worst I've ever had, and you know my history.
  16. Great story, great buck Alan. Congratulations!
  17. I'm surprised you got so many passthru shots with the Rage. That's my one complaint I have with them, and like you, the blades aren't too durable. For price and performance, I think the Muzzy 100 is my favorite.
  18. Nice one Randy, congratulations man.
  19. Most of the reactions that I've had to decoys have been positive, and quite entertaining. I wouldn't use them in the woods though, they seem to work better when they're in the open or on a field edge. In the woods I think they get too spooky for the real deer.

I feel for you man. Keep succeeding like you have been. I'm a firm believer in things happen for a reason. As for big bucks, I couldn't tell you. Like you, my hunting life has been impacted by school, job and keeping up with my kids. I must admit my fervor for hunting is waning also, for numerous reasons, mostly for the good. Hang tough!
