  1. Gotta have an ozonics doodad, scent blocker head to toe, hecks energy suit, face paint, scent blocker, snipe call, trail cameras--stills, infrared, plotwatcher, the whole bit. Make sure your burlap is sprayed down and has carbon silver wire mesh lined insert. You have to have all of that in order to be successful. Snipe hunting used to be fun, but not now. Now you have to have all the latest tech stuff to have fun and be successful. You can't be successful unless you have all the latest gadgets. Don't forget your butt out just incase you get one. 2. Pretty much agree with Don, but I live in Ohio. The cost to benefit ratio just isn't there for me. Having said that, some of the best times I had as a kid was spent in the 24' circular above ground my dad put in when I was in the 6th or 7th grade. We had tons of fun in that pool. Played volleyball nearly every night.
  3. Hope it all goes well!
  4. I prefer hickory, but it's tough to find around here so I use oak mostly, which is almost as good IMHO.
  5. Faster bow you might only need 1 or 2 pins. I personally only use 3. I know a lot of guys use 1 and just hold high or low.
  6. Very symmetrical, awesome 8. I'd say you're right there at ~127-130.
  7. I haven't changed too much over the years, and when I do, it's usually based on the advice or experience of a friend. My first head was a 180 monster made by PSE. I blame that one on the fact that I didn't know what I was doing. Second head I ever used was a Thunderhead and used that for years based on some advice from my friend Shawn. I used the Thunderhead for a long time but was getting discouraged by the durability of the head. The blades commonly broke or fell off the ferrule, and the ferrule commonly bent rendering them useless. My buddy Shawn also suggested the Spitfire which I used for a few seasons, but didn't like the penetration results. Next head I used was the Muzzy 100gr. 3 blade based on the advice and experiences from Ohiobucks. I used those for a few years (still do), then got on the bandwagon with the Rage 2 blade. I like the Rage, but it has issues with penetration too. I shot a midget fawn one year, at less than 10 yards and didn't get pass through, that really got me to thinking and I haven't bought any since I don't think. Right now I prefer the Muzzy still, they've never let me down for sharpness, durability and penetration.
  8. November 5, 1989. Holmes county Ohio, sitting on a rock above a trail. Momma doe and 2 fawns came by, stopped just out of range, then came in, perfect broadside shot, double lunged her, but I was so inexperienced at deer hunting it took me 3 hours to find her and she only went about 500 yards.

    The unthinkable

You proposed to your duck dog? Kidding, congrats man.
  10. A south wind I would hunt that finger on the northwest side of the property. A north wind, I would hunt the north end of that south patch of woods. East wind either patch of woods. I wouldn't hunt it in a west wind. I wouldn't hunt it in the morning unless I had a south wind, and then I'd be in the upper right corner of the green box. Looks to be a better evening spot to me.
  11. I don't know about your area, but in my area the deer herd is constantly on the move. Back in June I was seeing 10 deer a day in the fields around my house. For the past week or so, I'm only seeing this particular doe with her two fawns. I have yet to see any bucks yet, but they will be around. I think you'll be fine to set a stand now. As for where to hunt, I love sitting on the edge of them in a ground blind or in a tree bordering the corn. Evening hunts are the best.
  12. I appreciate it folks. By the way, it's sons, plural. Both my sons who have the gene got cleared.
  13. Yep, happened to me so I took it out of compatibility mode and it's back to normal, but now my return key doesn't work again.
  14. Obey the law and you have nothing to worry about. It's not an invasion of privacy at all IMHO, you're in a public place, driving on a public road. I do feel it's just a revenue machine and I don't care what explanation they give you, it's a pure money maker.
  15. Sorry to hear this news bud. My condolences.

    Cancer Update

Just got the call from my doc, and my MRI and my boys' MRI's came back clean. No cancer worries until Christmas or so. Thanks for the continued thoughts and prayers folks.
  17. I'd go back and change a few scenarios with one friend in particular and a few with my family.
  18. Really cool.
  19. Prayers on the way, hang in there Steve.
  20. All bunk. Can't believe people watch those shows or believe in that crap. Additionally, I can't believe TV producers pony up the money to make those shows.
  21. Ohio used to always start first Saturday in October, but last few years it's been the last Saturday in September. Bow season runs to the first Sunday in February. Gun season is always the Monday after Thanksgiving and runs for a week.
