What draw weight do you shoot with your hunting bow?
Randyman replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Bowhunting
Was able to vote so it must be fixed. My PSE Bow Madness XS is set at 63 pounds. -
Personally, if it were me I would be more than happy to put Volkswagon's money in my pocket. Long live capitalism!

Wonder if Milwaukee enjoyed watching the Cardinals win the World Series as much as I did. Hey "Tplush",wonder who's crying now?

Very nice! Congrats!

Just read that 22% of the Corn has been harvested here in Illinois as opposed to 54% at this time last year, so it is definitely behind schedule. In my neck of the woods (Macoupin and Jersey Counties) the harvest probably isn't more than 10 % done, so early season is going to be tough, but the harvest is starting to pick up.

I am going to try the Rage 2 blade for the first time this year. Like most anything, I can find someone who hates them for every one that loves them. Personally, I think the broadhead gets too much of the blame for poor penetration even on shots where the angle or placement are questionable. Ironically, I am switching from Rocket Ultimate Steel heads that I never had a problem with. Time will tell if I live to regret it.

LOL! That was my first thought, also! Congrats on the Doe! Any Deer with Archery tackle is a trophy in my book. :toot:

I bought the Realtree Outfitters Viper Ultra from Cabela's back in late Winter from the Bargain Cave flier and with a $25 Cabela's bucks coupon n free shipping I got for $205.

I bought a new Viper over the Summer and look forward to using s "sit down/stand up" climber versus my old "hand climber"!

I always whack a few suppers worth of Squirrels every year.

I work in Granite City and it skipped right over the Steel Mill while i was at work and hit Pontoon Beach. Saw streets flooded in Staunton that I have never seen flooded. Crazy stuff.

Cricks are for necks!

Lots of chasing and general craziness from young bucks in Jersey County, IL this morning (11/16). Looks like they could still be chasing for the first slug season this weekend. Seems like the mature Bucks are in "lockdown" mode right now, though.

Good luck to all! :gun_bandana:

I've only hunted 2 mornings this week, but I've seen 5 Bucks and only 2 Does all by 8:00am or so. The Bucks seem to be back in "cruise mode" looking for the last few receptive Does in my neck of the woods. I'm looking forward to first light in the morning, as this will be my first opening day in Illinois since 2004. Good luck to all Illinois gun hunters!

Next time you shoot have someone watch and make sure you are not flinching. 12 ga. slugs are PUNISHING and no fun to shoot. You don't say if your barrel is rifled or not, but I seriously doubt you have "shot out" a slug barrel. Relatively low pressure, temps and velocity combined with soft lead slugs or plastic sabots simply makes it next to impossible to "shoot out" a modern chrome moly barrel. Also, make sure you are keeping your barrel clean, especially if you're using the foster type "rifled slugs". Try some lok tight on those mount screws to help keep them secure. Just a few thoughts.

This is probably the single biggest factor in GE's decision. As much as they may claim differently, credit card companies don't want "good" customers. I did what some of the others have and switched to a debit card several years ago and only have 1 credit card that I use for concert tickets and some big purchases that I want the extra protection on and NEVER carry a balance. Sounds like you were using it like a debit card anyway. Get one and say good riddance to GE.

Unfortunately, Deer like this have pretty much priced the average Illinois resident out of owning or even leasing any reasonable amount of ground in most of the state. Anymore it is hard to find hunting ground for less than $3500 an acre or so and most of the time you'll have to pony up much more than that. Our reputation for Bucks like the one posted is the worst thing that has ever happened to Deer hunting in Illinois, IMHO. A reputation for oversized Bucks is a double edged sword. It's a case of "watch what you ask for, you just might get it"! Nice Buck, rugermk2! Congrats to your Buddy!
-
Very impressive! If I understand your post right, he would book as either a Typical or Non-typical. Rare are the Bucks that can claim that. As you noted, it takes a HUGE Typical frame, which this Buck clearly has. CONGRATS!

all the leaves are down and its noisy how do you keep from getting busted
Randyman replied to ALAN's topic in Deer Hunting
I usually just get to my stand as quick as possible and get set up so things settle down ASAP. I seem to see more Deer when I'm just stomping along than when I think I'm being sneaky. I believe Deer are sharp enough to know what a "sneaking" predator is up to. -
At 16 in Illinois he would have had to have taken a State Hunter Education Safety Course to get his hunting license. I just took it with my 12 year old and it was nearly 12 hours of classroom. Sad story indeed.

We use a different word here in Illinois: CRIMINAL! In my mind it is a bit old fashioned to think that just because someone didn't go to the trouble to post their land that just anyone can have the run of it. Does that go for a persons house to? What about their vehicle? Where do personal property rights start?

Couldn't agree more. Here is a funny story on a related matter. Years ago I went Dove hunting with a Buddy on ground his family owned. When we got to his ground there was a truck parked there and we could clearly see trespassers hunting the field edge several hundred yards away. The back of the truck was open and a cooler was in the truck. My buddy opens it and finds sandwiches and sodas, so he hands me one of each and takes one of each for himself. We proceeded to enjoy them. Meanwhile, the trespassers realize we are there and quickly head our way. They were spitting mad about us enjoying their lunch and basically asked what we thought we were doing. My friend explained that his family owned the ground, and if they wanted, we would get the law out there and see who came up on the short end of the stick over the situation. They pulled the old "we thought so and so owned this ground" story and basically tucked their tails and left. We still get a good laugh to this day over that story!

Agree 100% with the quartering to shot with archery gear.
