  1. Just for the record, this type of thing does not tick me off. :pop:
  2. Mostly public for me. I try to outwork 99% of the other hunters. I don't have much trouble at all getting an area to myself most of the time.
  3. .......What do you all think of Kimbo Slice being on this season's Ultimate Fighter? I am interested to see how he will do with some serious MMA training and if he can develop a serious ground game. I for one am not going to bet against him, given his obvious physical attributes, but I am interested to see what he can do against opponents that he cannot physically dominate. Should be entertaining at the very least! :hammer1:
  4. Her Husband Kyle posted a few times on here awhile back. They used to own the Pro Shop (North American Outfitters in Highland, Il.) where I bought my current bow at. They are both good people. They have their own show on The Sportsman Channel called Adrenaline Junkies. It will be on tonight at 9:00pm Central. Check it out.

    Its 11 pm....

That's not likely from a Possum! :stretcher:

    Snake Graphic

While I must agree, that is an unlikely scenario. Garter snakes lack venom and are not constrictors. They simply overpower and swallow their prey alive. A Mouse would be a tough row to hoe for a Garter Snake. I take great pains around my yard to not hit Toads with the Lawnmower. I think it is cool to have them around.
  7. From a fellow Illinoisan, Welcome!

    Locked OUT!

How true! My first car was a 1971 Chevelle (wish I still had it!) and I could get in it just as fast with a coathanger as I could the key! :helpsmilie:
  9. Is it too late to start singing "We are Family"? :poke:
  10. Here in Illinois we have 2 basic types of Hickory trees. The Mocker Nut (my Dad always called them Pig Nuts) and the Shag Bark. The Mocker Nut has a smoother bark and a smaller nut and the Shag bark has bark that looks like it is "peeling" and a somwhat bigger nut. The Shag Bark nuts tend to ripen first and the Mocker nuts a little later in the Fall. The leaves look virtually identical except the Shag Bark leaves will be bigger. Hope this helps.
  11. The food plots in my State can run too as big as hundreds or even thousands of acres!
  12. Saw 2 Friday that still had fading spots. As the others have mentioned, not unusual this time of year.
  13. I got to this too late to make a guess, but I think this proves how hard it can be to judge score looking at a picture. I also think, in general, people don't realize how much mass figures into a rack's score. I was just at Cabela's in Hazelwood, Mo. today and saw replicas of both the Hanson Buck (current B&C record typical) and the Jordan Buck (the Buck it replaced). I was amazed at how much more impressive the Jordan Buck is at 206 and change vs. the Hanson Buck at 213 and change and it is mostly due to the extreme mass of the Jordan Buck. Not to take anything away from the Hanson Buck, it has tremendous inside spread, tine and main beam length, but it looks down right spindly compared to the Jordan Buck. At any rate, that is a nice Buck you took, mikewink!
  14. I don't much care about score, size, maturity, etc.. I just like to Deer hunt. I won't shoot immature bucks, but any doe or adult buck is fair game in my book, regardless of the weapon in my hands. I firmly believe "to each his own".
  15. Knocked off my first limit of Squirrels of the season this morning. 4 Fox and 1 Gray, 3 cutting Black Walnut and 2 cutting Shag Bark Hickory. It almost isn't fair when they're cutting! I was hunting public ground that only allows Shotguns. I really found myself wishing I could use my trusty Marlin .22 bolt action up there. So much more fun to hunt Squirrels with a rifle! One side note, I heard what must have been Bobcats going at it! While I've never seen one in the wild, there have been confirmed sightings in the County I was in. There is no way house cats could have made the amount or volume of racket I heard. It was just getting good and light and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! I am certain it was not Coyotes. If it wasn't Bobcats, I don't want to know what it was! :jaw:
  16. Except for the State ground I hunt where I'm forced to use a Shotgun (my trusty 870) I use a Marlin Model 25 single shot bolt action .22 with a 4x40 scope.
  17. That is a great story. My 12 year old completed hunter education a few weeks ago and I took him Squirrel hunting for the first time the other evening without seeing anything. The Mosquitos and Horse Flies were terrible, but we had a good time anyway. They are cutting Black Walnut pretty good in my area, so we will try again soon, only this time in the morning. :gunsmilie:
  18. In my neck of the woods it seems the creek bottoms will be mostly Fox Squirrels and the higher ground will be Grays. I usually end up with about a 50/50 mix each season.
  19. In 35 years of running the woods, I can count on 1 hand the number of Skunks I have seen during the daylight hours. Can't think of any reason to kill one.
  20. I mostly hunt public land. The biggest plus? I am willing to out work 99% of the other guys, so I almost always get an area to myself!
  21. He is more often referred to as Miguel Torres, that could be where some confusion is coming from. He had a 36-1 record before meeting Bowles. He is one tough little dude, but so is Brian Bowles. He actually had Bowles in trouble right before he got knocked out. Great fight! I can't wait for Brown/Faber 3. Urijah gave him 5 tough rounds, even with a broken hand. I think the second fight turns out different if he doesn't have a broken hand. :chair:
  22. Ironically, Randy got his first title shot in only his 4th MMA fight. Of course it was all about the money. Isn't it always? Up next for Brock is the winner of the Frank Mir/Antonio Nogueira fight. Both have formidable Jiu-Jitsu skills that will pose a problem for Lesnar (as was proven in his first fight with Mir). I think Brock is legitimate, as there is no denying what an imposing athlete he is. If he can work up even decent Jiu-Jitsu skills he may well be unstoppable. After his beat down of Heath Herring, Heath remarked how incredibly fast Brock is for his size. Brock may well not hang on to the title, but he should make the heavy weight division interesting for awhile.
  23. Tim, I also hunt White County. My Sister lives down there and she says she is seeing Bucks coming out of the woodwork while driving back and forth to work (she lives in Norris City and works in Carmi). She says the activity is just picking up the last couple of days, so hopefully it will last until next Friday. My work schedule has finally rolled around to allow me to hunt the entire 3 day first season for the first time in 5 years (i only get 1 weekend off a month), so i am psyched! There are some monsters in that part of Illinois! Good luck to you, Tim and hopefully We'll both have good news to report in about 10 days!
  24. Congrats! Some serious mass and eyeguards.
