Re: Your Opinion- Is The Rut Happening in WV Yet? Well I know here in pa the rut is not quite into full swing yet the bucks typically grow antlers before the rut starts up here -

Re: Broadhead Choice Fixed or Mechnical ROcket Steelhead XP trust me shoot one at anything and u will see why and yes they will open they have to 100% of the time that is like saying better not shoot a screw on broadhead they mite fall off sorry for the poor ex just showing how dumb it is. not all mech are the same I would be a little skeptical of the blades that lock in place especially if you tinker with them and lock them tighter than they should be. with the rockets they have the rubber bands that are so light they would never keep the head from opening but are enough to keep it shut in flight.

Who still has a turkey season left to hunt?
bghunter777 replied to waterfowler_gal's topic in Turkey Hunting
Re: Who still has a turkey season left to hunt? Dahunter a 9 inch beard is not shaby but beard length is not a real good indicator of age the 1 1/8 spurs are the true sign of age that bird is def older than 2 and more than likely a 3 year old -
Well first off I have hunted every day this season except one. Friday the 13th turned out to be my lucky day. early in the morning I heard some very distant gobbling but never really got set up on the birds. at around 7:30 I set up to do some blind calling in an area I new birds frequented. after prob an hour wait I decided considering my prom was later that day I had better get going. just as I removed my head net and started to get up I heard a distant gobble. I quickly threw the gloves and head net on and hit my old Cody glass with some loud cutts and yelp nothing. I called a few more time but after a half hour of silence I decide to take off again at excactly the same point in taking off my head net the bird gobbled again form the same point. I repeated the process of getting set up again. once more I hit the old cody slate but this time was not diasappointed the bird fired back at me. just once. probably ten minutes passed and a few unanswered calls whe the bird gobbled on his own at about half the distance but still prob 200+ yards away. On his gobble I hit him with my glass again and was immediately answerd by not just one but two birds together. prob 5 minutes went by and both birds gobbled at about 100 yarrds this is the point in which turkey hunter start thinking this is working out when the birds are closing the distance. a few yelps off the glass coaxed another gobble out of the birds. At about 60 yards threw a thick tree/ shrub I pick both of the bird out they were in full strut. I could see them but did not want to shoot that far through brush like that. I gave the birds a soft yelp and both of them made a line rite toward me in full strut. but keeping the bush in between me and them. at about 35 yards the birds made there way out from behind the bush the lead gobbler never coming out of strut but just exposing his head slightly gave me enough to send a 3.5 inch load of # 5s his way. The hunt was aweome text book hunt two gobbler fcoming in nither one of them ever broke out of strut sun reflecting off there feathers at that moment I realized why I get up every moring at 4 oclock to do this. So friday the 13th was truly and awesom day. and on a side not my prom was great went with an aweome friend she is great got to drive the neighbors Corvett and bagged an awesome bird who says friday the 13th is not a good day.

Re: range on #6 I would say with #6 40 yards is about all I would shoot maybe 45 if the pattern is still good good meaning consisten 10-20 pellets in the central neck area you may want to try patterning #5 or even # 4 if distance is what you want as long as the pattern does not suffer to much. It will some because you have less bbs but the smaller shot carries much more long range nock down power I would rather have 5 to 10 #4s in the neck at 50-55 yards then 20# 6s simply because of the KE difference. I personally find a happy medium with Winchest 3.5 inch #5s out of my Mossberge and have killed turkey out to about 55 yards 6 for 6 using this load. my father a few years back killed a turkey at 71 paces using Wincheste #4s only 1 bb hit the head I would never NEVER recommened this shot. but it is an example of larger shot having more KE I am fairly sure a load of # 6s would only have educated this bird.

Re: A Realtree.com Proposition I will give my best effort to be there that sound like a much better idea then a hunt. More peple would be able to come. A hunt could still be organized if you all desire.

Re: Broadhead for Black Bear You will get a hundred different opinions I will tell you I love Rockets and think there steelhead will do more than enough to take a bear if you like fixed heads I would go with Rockets ultimate steel. shot placement is more important than anything.
-
Re: Rocket Aeroheads Rockets are awesome that is all I use I shoot the sidewinder and have never not had a passthroug with them also the steelheads are awesome I am only shooting 60lbs and have killed 6 archery deer with Rocket and 2 wild boar all passthroughs and the blood trails are incredible. The miniblaster is a great head but the 1 3/4cutting diameter will sacrifice a little Penetration but how far do you want it to go in the ground. I would rather use the energy in the deer than in the ground. Your setup will be fine but if Penetration is a concern there Steelheads even though smaller will do the job and Penetrate better than any head I have ever shot.

Re: Competitors but.....? Would like to see them argue about who scared the deer and which person it saw. I would say probably not.

Re: Realtree posts I was able to get a hold a Bill's e-mail and gave a special request for him to drop in. I know he is probably busy but who knows it would be neat to hear wome of his insite into these heavely discussed topics.

Re: maximum range My longest shot on a Whitetail with a bow was 27 yards 30 is my personel limit I am confident out to forty on a target but that is a lot different than a live animal.
