Re: Best time to hunt the Milk River??? WOW you are truly going to have one of the best trips of you life. trust me. A good rule of thumb your best odds of taking a big buck are always when they are out chasing does/looking searching for does to chase. begining of Nov is prob a great time. but with the proper set up early season can be productive also.

Re: Scent control clothing or not? Just adding my 2 scents YES they work are they totally necessary NO. good higene keep clothes clean only hunt the rite winds and you can still take good deer. But they do work I am a solid believer. they are no magic suit like some advertise forget the wind and just hunt hardly. but they are one piece of the puzzle in my opinion. I am sort of a scent control freak as they say. and almost never will I have a deer wind me. this season I have had deer directly up wind at under 30 yards eye level and never even liftend there nose. Good luck and if you can afford it it will definately not hurt you. follow the directions given with the suit very carefully that is very important. these suits absorb scent that is what they do I have seen hunters in there scent lok in sheets and almost makes me sick to my stomach just watching them.

Provided we get the wind to co operate meaning it stays at resenable level we should have a good weekend for hunting with this hot weather then the cold front pushing through high in the 40s on friday. don't be surprised if you even see a little more buck movement. yes its early but I just have a hunch Saturday may even be a good day to pull an all day hunt with small game season coming in and the cold front either one could move deer throughout midday. good luck all. and be safe!

Re: Don\'t ever be afraid to sit a new spot I have had some of my best hunting just taking my climber around noon and walking way back in there until I find a spot that looks like yeah this could be good. and setting up. don't get me wrong I still have the ussuall spot where I have glassed bucks all summer found there rublines patterenned them from bedding to feeding ect. but I have also seen some of my biggest bucks not completely blind bc I know the area I huint very well but just walking and then picking a place that looks productive and hunting it. a few years back I did that with my climber and at 430 on a 70+ degree day. I had a perfect typical 12 pt prob in the 150-160 range walk in make a scrape about 45 yards away and then follow my scent trail I laid the excact direction I walked in from. for Pa that is big heck that is big anywhere. come in he stayed just out of range the following evening I was back on stand and being young I took an 8pt about 15 wide I just could not hold out for that big boy. a deer at hand is worth 2 in the field and the one I was after was def two of the one I took. the motto of the story is yes def try new things it can be very productive.

Re: What broadhead do you shoot? Rockets I am a huge rocket fan love the sidewinder and the steelheads. this year I was forced to buy a pack of the new NAP spitfire pros as or rite now that is what I am using but only bc they were sold out of rockets and opening day was the next day.

Re: When do you put on your camoflauge? I dress ussually about 20 yards upwind of my truck. with my scent lok then I walk over to the truck toss my clothes I took off in the bed and go hunting.

Re: First day Pa, how did ya do morning was slow saw 5 deer 3 does 2 button bucks the button bucks stayed withing 40 yards for about 2 hours. the evening hunt I jumped probably 12 deer on the way in one shooter buck looked like a 10 maybe 18 wide prob high 120s need to find a better way into this stand. while actually on stand I saw one deer that happened to be a buck it was an 8 pt he was at about 30 yards prob low 100s I thought about shooting but opted not to. looking forward to the weekend. good luck all.

Re: Elivated shots? Keep it tite to the shoulder rite in the middle of the deer. the middle is ideally where you want the arrow to hit. it is always better to hold just a bit lower than you think you should especially on an alert deer. at distances of 20 and closer you rarely see an arrow fly low.

Hunting spots (does family/friends know?)
bghunter777 replied to AdvantageTimberLou's topic in Bowhunting
Re: Hunting spots (does family/friends know?) my father will ussually know generally where I am. but not always. when I go out of state. typically I will let someone know. -
Re: PA Deer maybe I am missing something I hunt 2c I have many quarrels with our game commision but lack of deer is not one. I do about half of my hunting on public land and about half my hunting on private. yes I do see more deer on the private land but last year was a great year for hunting I saw some of my biggest and prob more deer than every before. I had a few opportunities at 120+ bucks but lets not talk about those I ended up taking an 8pt about 15wide scored 101. I thought he was bigger. but I do not think I could count on one hand times I went out and did not have deer within shooting range. the first day of buck I took my uncle out from new mexico since I could not hunt. I took him to one of my secret spots. lol rite in the middle of public hunting land. we saw 10 different bucks and prob 50 deer. a few may have been repeats but the deer are there if we are willing to go get them. he ended up taking a 10pt that prob scored around 100. I am in college now but have been home to do some scouting. and have seen several 100-120 class bucks and 1 or 2 that will go higher. not to mention plenty of does. I said all that to simply imply. and please I am not putting anyone down. but many times its the hunter that just goes out and sits there thinking hunting is luck that complains about the lack of deer. the deer are there we just have to find em. Pa is no illinois or Montana Milk river area but there are deer to be taken.

Re: Letting them lay up............. let them lay let them lay let them lay. if any doubt at all. let them lay. the meat will be fine the next day. and I guess yotes are a concern. but I am still a fan of letting them lay. I rarely find any good of busting threw the woods after dark. alhough some of my most memorable moments came trailing deer after dark. but thats another story for another day.

Re: first broadhead you used? Rocket Miniblaster for the last 8 years never anything but a rocket

I noticed at least in my part of the state the white oaks are loaded and starting to drop. find the white oaks and you will find the deer. I have a great stand with a 30+ inch big old white oak just loaded with acorns. I pursuaded the logging operation to leave it about 5 years back finally I get the opportunity of having a great accorn year.

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Bird down my pictures of the lengths stink my father was to far away from the tape measure hope everyone will trust the honor system. not my biggest ever but respectable 7/8th inch spurs both sides 19lbs even and 10" beard even. I have never had luck posting pics if someone with a scanner would be willing to let me snail mail them that would be appreciated thanks and good luck to you all. now I have to try for my 2nd here in Pa but no guarentees on a bigger bird. I have been using my bow for my 2nd with no blind. had one in to 30 yards 2 days ago could not get a shot. had 2 others at 40 the same day later on no shot on them either.

Re: 2 3/4\" Load For Turkeys?? although 6 will pattern fine out to 50 or beyond they do not carry the Ke neccessary to ethically take birds consistently past 35 yards. 2 3/4 inch shells are fine I called a bird in for a youth here in pa bird went down like a ton of bricks. I would recommend the Remington Duplex loads that have the 6s to give you pattern density but also pack 4s to reach out and touch em. I would still not promote shooting turkes much past 40 yards you could maybe push 45 if you have patterned yout gun and know what it does at that distance with a 2 3/4 inch load but under 40 and start filling out the tag.

Re: Cody World Class Slate!! Yes indeed although there mass produced calls are good they are not even close to the World class I have only had it about 2 weeks but just keep getting a little more excited to use it. I am a big primos fan they make some good calls and there Power chrystal will be rite beside the cody in the vest because on a rainy day you can throw those slates out the window. the power chrystal works with my synthetic striker completly drenched in water.

I just bought one and I love it just wandering if anyone else on here has one. It is by far the best call I have ever purchased hands down and I have alot trust me. I know $125 dollars is quite a bit for a call and truth be told my woodsmen slate from cody would probably call in any bird that is willing to come in for about 1/3 the price. This is just a fun call to have around the friends they think I am really good at calling birds little do they know that the call is helping out slightly. I own almost all the primos line a few hand made calls from various people but the world class in one word WOW. so whats your story if you have one or know someone that has one how do they like it. I think I know the answer but still fun to here it.

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Well all I know you were all getting worried that our anchor was not going to show up but do not worry I am here been to busy in the woods patterning 4.5 year old and older limb hangers have posted a bird every year since the start and do not plan on braking that streak any time soon. The Cody is ready to rock along with the Mossberg only thing that I need now is a cool crisp morning the opening of turkey season and a flydown cackle occompanied with a keekee and a and a soft yelp to bring em in on a rope.
