  1. Sorry about the picture. It was late last night and my camera was dead.
  2. Well boys, I scored on a 8 pointer Sunday night. He wasn't the biggest buck, but he is mine and I am proud of the shot that I made. 40 yards and he dropped in his tracks. A good, clean, quick kill.
  3. Congrats on the buck. He is a dandy. I got out Saturday night but with temps in the mid 60's I didn't have much hope. Well long story short, it was my best night out. I saw a monster chasing a doe around. I had several smaller bucks hang around until last shooting light. That's when the monster came grunting down the hill and scattered the smaller bucks out. He stood out at 25 yards, but it was about 10 minutes past legal time. I could see his body, but not his headgear. It's amazing what 15 minutes can cost you.
  4. I hear you about this weekends weather. I had plans on going out in the evenings, but I think I am going to switch to mornings. That seems to be when everybody I talk to is seeing deer movement. I have sat just about everynight for the past week or so and haven't seen a deer except right at last light, and those weren't even close. I guess being in the 40's all day still isn't cool enough to get them deer up and moving. This has been one of the most difficult Rut's I've hunted. Good Luck everybodh.
  5. Last night was a bust. It stayed pretty breezy all night. I saw exaclty 1 baby opossum and that was it. My BIL has been seeing some big ones moving, but not until right at last light. Heading back out tonight and tomorrow. Sunday I won't be getting out, church obligations and basketball practice. Good Luck team 6.

    After 10yrs

Congrats on the full freezer. Always nice to fill it up early.
  7. Fresh backstraps. Congrats Tony.
  8. Can't add anything more that what Martin said. This coming weekend and next week should see those big boys getting stupid. Ya' know if WI had any big bucks. They are all in Ohio and Oklahoma.

    deer calls

I've had my best luck with grunt calls. The last couple bucks I've shot, came into blind calling. They both walked stiff-legged, ears pinned back right to me.
  10. I like the moose antler, it adds a bit of character to the mount.
  11. Got out last night and just about got blown out of the tree. It was so windy and noisy that the buck that was bedded about 60 yards from my stand had no idea I climbed up. After a bit he casually got up and walked up the hill behind me. About 6pm I watch him walk down the next ridge over and out into the cornfield. I decided to get down a little early, since I couldn't hear a thing and I was a touch cold. Tomorrow start 4 straight days of tree time. Good Luck to all.
  12. Congrats on the Buck. He is a nice one.
  13. I went out last night and saw my first chase of the year. Not really a chase more of a buck following closely to where the doe was going. I then had 3 little bucks come in together. It was 2 year and half and a buck fawn. They tolerated each other, but were still together. Heading out tonight again. The big boys got to start moving sometime.
  14. Got out Friday morning, It was cold and frosty. I had Mr. Big walk into about 40 yards. He either winded me or the 30 or turkeys coming out of the trees at him spooked him. He turned and trotted back the way he came. Saturday night was nothing but does. This week fella's, I've already got my early out requests in at work. I am out there everyday but Wednesday, I need to check my girl's candy before the eat it.
  15. As are we, temps tomorrow will be falling all day. I will be out as much as possible these next 4 days.
  16. My BIL rattled in a nice 10 last night. He hung up about 40 yards in ditch. When he didn't see the deer making the noise, he turned and walked away. I also heard some chasing going on, but right at last light. It was pretty warm out last night. Cold front coming through Thursday is suppose to drop temps all day. Tha magic time is upon us. Get out in that tree or blind.
  17. Went out last night, didn't get up in my tree until 4:45. I had deer on me almost right away. Does and fawns were running around the woods. Pretty sure there was 2 seperate groups, can't be sure though. Heading out tonite and tomorrow. Mr. Big is still out there somewhere, hope he makes it to me again, this time will be different.
  18. Congrats Rhino. Way to break in a new bow. I went out Friday and Sunday. Short story, Friday didn't see diddly squat and Sunday, everything moved right at dark. Seen 2 bucks pushing each other around, nothing serious but couldn't see how big. Seems more of a typical October...movement right at dark. Couple weeks to go.
  19. Lots of crops coming off around here. I think that's why we have been seeing deer movement in the woods. Planning on sitting tonight on the edge of a corn field. Hoping that "Lucky" makes his way past me.
  20. I can't believe the amount of deer movement that we are seeing. I've gone back and looked at the reports I've kept. Mid October has always been slow it seems. This year it seems the bucks are moving, a lot, and in daylight. Oh Yea, my brother in law missed the same deer, from the same tree, at the same distance that I did on Sunday. Only difference was he was out on Monday. The deer is a giant 8 pointer. I find myself daydreaming about him. Good luck to all who are getting out.
  21. I got out last night and had a pretty good night, depending on your point of view. This is just a synopsis. I grazed a 145 8 pointer. I am just sick with myself, but from everything I seen from how the deer acted, he will be fine and seemed to not know what was going on. I am pretty sure I dropped my bow arm instead of bending at the waste. It was a pretty good angle.
  22. Mother Nature is far crueler than any ethical hunter could be. It's sad to think how long she probably was there sufferring.
  23. Congrats. That is a huge deer.
