    GW Smith

Re: GW Smith nope--was wondering the same thing the other day. Kind of miss the old man.
  8. Re: Nascar has lost a good fan haven't lost me---never been a fan. I will watch maybe the last few minutes if it is a close race but I don't see how a person can sit and watch cars drive around in a circle for 4 hours.
  9. Re: dear herd management unusual problem to have in these days--most states are trying to reduce herd numbers and thus increasing doe harvest. I have to agree with William--you need write letters to the DNR biologist and possible attend meetings to voice your opinion. Call your wildlife dep't and find out who is in charge and write a letter to them and find out if there are any meetings you can attend on the matter.

  11. Re: gun mounting exercise--wow... AJ--that is one pricey program/simulator, I don't shoot competition but would sure like to improve my wingshooting--do you think this also helps with wingshooting?
  12. Re: Seeing any hatch yet ? not seeing any babies yet here in Oklahoma--all paired up and nesting but no babies sighted.
  13. I've never been a great shot with a shotgun and I really believe it has to do with an inconsistent form. I now have a gun that fits me well so I've been trying to do exercises so that when I pull the gun up to shoot it becomes an automatic response. Trying to concentrate on the target and never looking at the barrel. Just one smooth flow to the target--keeping eyes on target and just "automatically" bringing shotgun up in one smooth fluid motion. SO.....I've been doing a couple exercises to try to accomplish this. I inserted a small flashlight in the top barrel of my O/U and doing the following exercises (copied from OSP Shooting School Website: [ QUOTE ] How to practice your gun mount to make it perfect and subconscious? The easiest way is to get a small flashlight, like a mag light, wrap it with tape so it wont scratch the barrel. Insert it into the barrel (top barrel of an over/under). Put the light to its smallest circle. Focus on something small in the room, a light switch or corner of a picture. Put the light on what you focused on and bring the gun up smoothly and be sure the light is still shinning on what you are looking at, at all times through the mount. If not, do it again becoming very aware that the front hand is pointing the gun to where you are looking. The front and back hands should work together, keeping the light where you are looking, as you mount the gun to your face. The second thing you can do is to focus the flashlight on the seam between the wall and ceiling of a room. Follow the light with your eyes while making the gun go from one corner to the other and mounting the gun at the 4 corners. You will notice that as the gun is mounted to your face that the light will probably go over or under the seam--not staying straight on the seam. The mount to the face must be smooth for the gun to go where you are looking and therefore your point to be perfect. Do this 7 days in a row, 50 times each night and gun mount wont be a problem. [/ QUOTE ] I had no idea how weak my muscles are for this exercise--I did the seam on the wall and ceiling exercise and after about 15 times my muscles were starting to shiver--and this from a lightweight shotgun. If anyone else has other exercises to help proper gun mount I would appreciate it--I will continue to do this as I really think this is my biggest problem when shooting. I have this bad habit of taking my eyes off the target and looking down the barrel---once I get out of this habit I hope my shooting will improve. todd
  14. Re: New Food Plot Toy! I have to agree with LETMGROW. I have used my front end loader on a few trees but they were very small trees or cedar trees which are very easy to push over (soft wood and shallow soft root systems). If you plan on getting a dozer or renting one I'd be sure to first let the person know what you plan doing with it and also get some get instructions on how to operate one. Farming is the most dangerous work a person can do and if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing with heavy farming machinery then get someone who does--no need getting hurt.
  15. Re: Spring Break Project good job on the hard work! I'm sure it will payoff next season.

  18. Re: Recent gamecam pics your turkey season looks promising!
  19. Re: Summer/Fall plot help I just hate to see you waste the clover--if the plot is properly taken care of you could get 3 to 5 years worth of life out of the clover--maybe even longer. No need to redisc it up if you have a good plot of clover--with proper moisture it will stay green and produce all summer and fall until it goes into winter dormancy. Clover is too expensive to keep planting every year and rediscing. Fertilize it and keep the weeds mowed.
  20. Re: My new pup. I do the majority of my hunting on private land. I haven't hunted any public water in years and then it was only Ft Cobb lake. Ft Cobb used to be a duck paradise but it has fallen in the last few years.
  21. Re: Summer/Fall plot help i'm slow I don't really understand your post completely. You already have clover in the plot but it is not thick enough? If you disc up the ground you will probably lose most of the clover you have. Your best bet would have been to frost seed over the existing clover you have now. Contact Martin to see if it is too late for your area. Another option is to overseed some clover in the plot this fall. Is there another area you can disc up to plant your warm season annuals?

    what do you do?

Re: SSS-what do you do? on my 80 acres I have a neighbor that has a hound--sweet dog--pain in the butt cause he has disturbed a few hunts but I've learned to live with it. However--there are dogs that roam my land that I don't feel comfortable around. I had one bark and growl at me and my daughter while hunting. This is MY land and my daughters and me should feel SAFE on my land--so I do take these dogs out. If you love your dog then you keep your dog up. No way am I taking a chance of myself or my daughters getting bit by a dog.
  23. Re: My new pup. awesome--congrats on the new pup. Nice lookin' dog! He'll be retrieving ducks soon. todd

  25. Re: Ted Nugget...Outdoor Channel... Like I've stated before I've never been a huge fan of Zumbo's show and what he said was difinitely out of line but I don't if it deserved losing everything he has spent his life working on---too late now though.
