  4. Re: WHich shotgun is best? I shoot an 870 Express Super Mag and have no complaints. . . turkey flattener! But any of the guns you mentioned will do it too especially if you put the right choke/shell combo with it
  5. Re: How many pellets are enough? You've got plenty if you're putting 10-15 pellets in the actual neck bones. It only takes one, but i believe its been stated that 7 hits is a good number to set at a minimum.
  6. Re: SOUTH DAKOTAN\'S Dont know personally but from the folks i've talked to i've been told to prepare for anything. From warm temps to snow storms cause the weather there changes constantly.
  7. What's the problem with posting detailed descriptions of all our hunts in there under our team name? Is there a problem with space or something? Just wondering b/c i know last year team members would tell how their hunts went whether they were successful or not. . . now it says only post your story if its successful or a clean miss? Just seems to defeat the purpose of having a message board if you ask me? or i could be totally missing something here. . . . someone enlighten me.
  8. Re: 2005 Realtree Forum Member Turkey Contest Teams Thats awesome, thanks again borch!

  12. Re: Who uses a Red Dot scope on there Turkey Gun? I tried one last year and have got to say, i'm going to have to go against the grain here! I didnt like the reddot (BSA) b/c it didnt allow me to pick up small sticks and saplings that were b/t me and the bird. I switched back to the adjustable fiber optics and i believe thats where i'll stay. I did sight my gun in w/ the fiber optics like i did the scope and starting close w/ 2 3/4" is where it's at! Dislikes about Reddots: 1. the before mentioned sight limitation 2. remembering to turn on the dot when working a bird ( i forget to take off my safety sometimes, dont need something else to forget) 3. batteries. . . better keep one of those in your vest. 4. Dot settings- you have to set the brightness for the conditions, first light calls for a dim setting or you'll have a blur, bright lighting calls for a bright setting or you cant see the dot at all. Each condition is different, so . . . if i do remember to cut on the dot or better yet dont remember until the last second, i dont want to be playing any mini mieni moe on the dot settings. These are the reasons i switched back to the fiber optics, not saying reddots are no good, just that people have different preferences.
  13. Re: DU or Delta ? Delta- the techniques they employ show increasing success with the resources that are available . . . sure adding more area for nesting in the Priarie Potholes will always be beneficial, but the truth is that we will never be able to regain enough acreage to make things like they need to be, other precautions that Delta has introduced shows huge success with what we do have.

    Decoys?

Re: Decoys? I've used a single hen, a hen and jake, 2 hens and a jake, hens and half strut jake. . . they all have their times. Not sure what tempts me to set out a jake and hen or just a hen. . . i just do sometimes. I've probably had the most success with a single hen but i carry a hen and jake w/ me all the time. Just make sure if your using a half strut jake that you are dealing w/ the dominant birds b/c they'll spook a subordinate tom and jakes alot of times.
  16. Re: Kee-Kee run and Gobbling Springtime Kee Kee's are not as rare as most think. . . and i've found it very effective on some of the most stubborn public land birds out there. To make a realistic kee kee it is rather difficult on a diaphram, therefore its not used as much by other hunters which adds to its effectiveness. This is not to say go aroud kee keeing the woods up in the spring but i've found it'll turn some heads that otherwise were headed the other way. To make the sounds you need to be using a clear diaphram that doesnt hold much rasp, higher pitched. Start by putting moderate pressure on the reeds and making 3-4 wee, wee, wee sounds then dropping your tongue off sharply and adding a couple soft yelps to the end. That should have it.
