Re: Kinda bummed...
Congrats on the bird, our season goes out here on the 15th and thats just a few days. I hate to see it go. . . .but i cant complain about my season its been awesome.
Dont own one but i have a friend that has one of the things w/ the winds that spin w/ the wind that are stuck in the yard. It used to be a bee but after a little paint it is now a hen mallard. Had several birds commit suicide to it.
Re: Goose call for locating tukeys?
Yes i have a goose call in my vest and have had it work on several occassions. I also carry a wood duck squeller, woodpecker, crow, and i owl with my voice.
Re: Thunder Dome Crystal
For the most high pitched sounds i have ever heard on a call hit that crystal with a carbon striker. This has choked a gobble out of birds when nothing else would.
Re: Scouting..
The best time to go would be at first light b/c thats when the turkeys are most vocal and you can pinpoint where they are roosting. Afterwards you can walk around looking for scratchings, droppings, dust bowls, etc.
Re: Calling..
The soft cluck purrs and yelps are good for the pressured toms and the birds that are just out of range but if you get a hot bird i like to make him show off. Cuttin' hard and loud aggressive yelps will get an ole boy fired up and i love watching them run in double gobbling and doing the strut/run!!
Re: Bow or Gun?
The last two years i have tried to take a bird with a bow and i also pulled the muzzleloader once, so far i am 0 for 3. I messed up twice w/ a bow and flat out missed a monster w/ the muzzleloader. Seems like i cant get them to fall to anything other than the Remington. If all goes well and i take a bird or two early in the season i'll probably try it again.
