sorry for multiple posts. To beat the world record Hansonj buck. He'll have to gain alot in mass. The length of tines and number of typical tines "12" is better on the hanson buck. I believe the Hanson buck will stand as number 1!!!!--rossman

Is buckshot legal in Alberta? It's not in NY!!!! Great way to ruin the cape!!!! lol--rossman

All I know is you better be warry who your showing pics and posting pics too!!!! If this deer is indeed the new world record. He should not have said anything about it until after the drying period and had him scored. Also, Now that he has posted the pics anyone can copy the inage and use them. I know hunting is hunting, but when you kill a world record your life will change. You become famous and can recieve money for pictures, stories, etc.... For example, I can copy the image and then I own it if it is not copywrited, and sel it. I wouldn't of course but do you get my drift? Also, he runs a greater chance of theft and destruction from idiots who are jealous!!!!! Not a good idea to post that deer, should have been smarter!!!! Just my 2 cents!!!--rossman

Normal for first shot to be off paper?
rossman replied to rossman's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
A hear ya. I could have flintched or something like that. So maybe it was me. This is the first time I tried th shoot 150 grains of powder out of my muzzleloader in 2 years. So, maybe I was thinking about the kick. Thanks, Rossman -
I have a .45 caliber thompson omega muzzlelaoder. I wanted to try out the new Power Belt "Platinum Tip" 223 grain bullett with 150 grains of triple 7 powder. I wanted to increase the grains in my bullet and charge to deliver more KE. I used to use a 200 grain shockwave with 100 grains of powder and had a 2 inch spread at 100 yards, but had a hard time killing deer with it, having no sign of blood or hair after the shot. I would track the deer in the snow for more than 150 yards with no sign but could not believe I was missing. I shot at 3 deer the last two years at less than 100 yards with no sign of hitting it. I kill deer at 400 yards with my weatherby but can't kill a deer within 100 yards with muzzleloader. Myt first shot with a clean barrell missed the entire paper. So, I shot another and it was a half inch high dead center. I fired three more shots and here is the pattern I got at 100 yards. Is it normal for the first "clean barrell" shot to be off so much? Is this an acceptable pattern for you guys at 100 yards? Its a 3" spread. I only accept a 1 inch spread with my rifle but a rifle is different of course. Is this good enough to ethically hunt deer with? Thanks--rossman

My brother "Danbo" and I went on our annual trip to Kansas this year. In previous years we held out for 150" class bucks or better, but came home with nothing. This year we were very excited to pull the trigger and killed two very respectable bucks. My brothers was a 140 class 8 point that busted off his main beam after his G3 and his G3. But still a great buck. Mine was a good ten point that had a mule deer split off of his G2 and G3's. Due to all the points he would gross slightly under 140. We are very thankful for the bucks we killed and have a reason for our wives to let us go again next year. Here are some pics. Rossman's Buck.... Danbo's Buck.... Just thought I would share... it will open!!! I bought a pack last week and they fly true and the physics behind the Rage is undeniable. It takes more kinetic energy to open a traditional mechanical broadhead due to the blades having to swing back to be open. The slip cam design looks awesome and I really believe they will work!!!! -Later--rossman

I picked up a Ross Cardiac this summer and started shooting broadheads three weeks ago. I had a terrible time paper tuning my bow and my broadheads were all over the place. So I brought it down to my proshop to see if he could help me out. He couldn't paper tune it either. So we sprayed some powder on the whisker buskit rest to see if th earrows were hitting the rest. And they were! My arows were hitting the lower right part of the ring of the whisker buiscuit. So, my proshop guy talked me into shooting a ripcord dropaway. So I agreed and he put it on and we were able to paper tune it. But now, I am getting some arows that are off when I shoot. The fletchings are not hitting the lowere right side of the ripcord rest. Now I'm beyond the point of frustrated. Could the bow be the issue? So, have any of you had any issues with the Ross Cardiac? I love the bow and love the way it shoots but I can fifure out why my arows are being pushed down and to the right? And the kicker is, I'm going out to Colorado in two weeks so I'm getting nervous. My proshop guy told me that the bow was paper tuned when it left the shop, but when we tried to paper tune it when I brought it back, we couldn't even get a tear within the fletchings. So, I starting to think he's full of poo? PLease help!!!!!--rossman

I'm shooting 100 grain sonics. My field tips are 100 grains too. The sonics shot perfect along with my field tips with my matthews but now their not even close. Frustrating. My proshop told me he paper tuned my bow but maybe I'll go back down and see if he can do it again. Thanks for the help...--rossman

Well, I picked up a Ross Cardiac and started shooting broadheads. At 20 yards my broadheads are 4 inches lower than my field tips, and 40 yards their 12 inches lower than my field tips. How do I tune my bow so my broadheads pattern with my field tips? Should I move my rest up a little bit or knock point down? Any help would be very appreciative!!!!! --rossman

I'm getting a new Ross bow. The archery Shop said he would give me $300 for my Mathews Outback for a trade in. Here's the description I would put on ebay. Do you think $300 trade in value is a good deal or should I ask for more? What do you think about this deal? All help will be much appreciated. WHat's your draw weight? I pull about 67 pounds on my switchback and it shoots 270. For a bow to hunt out west I think speed is important but 290 sounds great to me. Thanks again!!!!--rossman

Has anyone bought the Ross "Cardiac" bow or shot it? I'm thinking about buying a lighter bow for hunting out west. I haven't shot it yet nut will todayor tomorrow. Just want to know what anyone has thinks about it and what I should expect? Thanks in advance!!!--rossman

Here's the story!!!! Opening day for turkey finally arrived for my hunting buddy, Mike Burline and I. This year was different, we had a GL2 to video our hunts and we were ready. The morning before opening day I woke up early to go out and scout. I found a flock of birds including three great Toms in the field we deer hunt. I watched and acquired some great footage as they came off their roost and walked ten yards past our ground blind. This made our opening day destination a no brainier! I woke up opening morning, stopped for a little dunkin and some doughnuts, picked Mike up and we were off. After we settled into our ground blind, I made some soft yelps and purrs, to be cut off by one of the Toms. They came off their roost and were in the adjacent field about 100 yards away. Game on!!!! After getting my “Vietnamese accent” going, you know, “me love you long time”! We heard some hens behind us, so I decided to stop calling and let the hens draw the Toms in. The hens were calling and the Toms were gobbling. One of the Toms made his last mistake and started towards us. At about 40 yards, I took my safety off, asked Mike, “you got him”. Mike said, “yep, smoke him”. I pulled the trigger, and bird number one, my best bird to date, is in hand. He weighed about 22 pounds, 8½ inch beard, and 1 inch spurs. Things couldn’t have gone better. After some exit interviews, some high fives, it was Mikes turn. The shot was long but I was confident I could make a clean kill due to patterning my gun the week before. We decided to go to another area on the same farm, where we got into them the week before during the youth hunt. Then things got frustrating. The turkeys shut down! We set up a couple times with no luck. With about an hour and a half left of legal hunting time, we headed towards another hot farm. We arrived, and the turkeys still were not being vocal. This is when we decided that we needed to stay patient because a gobble could roar through the trees at any moment. We walked the perimeter while Mike was making some soft cuts and yelps. Then from out of nowhere we heard a gobble, and he was close. Game on again! We sat down immediately, Mike started to get his “Vietnamese accent” going and I got the tape rolling just in time. About a minute later he showed up at the edge of the field about 15 yards. Mike took his safety off, shot and killed his best turkey to date. Bird number two, so we thought? He was an awesome bird, weighed about 25 pounds, 9 ½ inch beard, and 1 ¼ inch spurs. After a second exit interview and more high fives, it was time to check in with my dad who hunted earlier. I called my dad to tell him our good fortune and asked how he did. He calmly said, “Well, I woke up around 6:30am, went to my spot, called, got cut off with a gobble, had three Toms run towards me. I tried to shoot, and heard a click, realizing I didn’t put a shell into the chamber. So, I quietly pumped one in, and shot a Tom.” Acting as if it was easy!!! Got to love it!!!! --rossman

My hunting partner and buddy went out today for NY's opening day turkey. Had an awesome time and some great hunts. We each killed a Tom and got em both on camera. It was the greatest day of turkey hunting in my life!!! Here's a picture!!!! Story to follow after I get some work done!!!! Thanks--rossman.

Thanks for your help!!! But to set the record straight. I never said food plots were not fair chase. If My food plot was in an enclosure, then I would never hunt it. Just my moral standard. I don't see anything wrong with giving the deer the nutrition they need to live a healthy life. But this topic is about foodplots and I would appreciate it if we were to stay on task. Thanks again!!!--rossman

Objective? What is the objective when shooting a turkey on the body with an arrow? Am I trying to break his back or shoot the lungs/heart out? I know the heart and lungs are much smaller than a deer. When you kill a turkey with an arrow, what do you hit internally that kills him? Thanks again.--thanks
