  1. Re: Salt Lick Placement [ QUOTE ] Rossman, Maybe you should run a MEL-1080 on your own post, find trace contaminants, and any material outgassing which brought about the reactions of those who seem offended by your statement. Even your own IVA could not conclusively identify the cause...indicated by the (?) as seen below in this quote: [ QUOTE ] As for bashing the whole midwest. I was not doing this? [/ QUOTE ] I may be incorrect in my conclusion. However...I do believe that even with my non-conciderable experience in the field of Mass Spectra Analysis the above quote contains the previously unknown volatile compounds. [/ QUOTE ] Good one!!! How did you now what I do at work? Also, you guys get so darn offended so easily. Stop it. --rossman

  3. Re: Salt Lick Placement [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] So that's why it's easier to kill deer in the mid west, you can use salt licks.... I really didn't think anyone used salt licks or any type of bait pile anymore. --rossman [/ QUOTE ] After you being on here for 3 years I bet I'm not the only one that doesn't believe you. Lost credibility there!!! Some of us aren't that ignorant. I know of a natural salt spring in PA as well as NY. Must be that is baiting and I am not worthy of claiming my prize after I harvest it. I guess I'll stop hunting over natural bait. Wait a minute, isn't a food plot natural bait? LMBO Stop hunting over either? NOT!!! To answer the question now. Somewhere near a watering source. I have seen illegal salt licks set up near dry areas and they never get used. I have seen legal ones set up near, 100 yds or so, water and get hammered. Both of these natural salt springs are not near flowing water but are near man made vernal pools. [/ QUOTE ] Your back again??? Dude, there is an obvious difference between natural bait and a brick of salt. The question was asked as where the salt lick should be placed. I would leave it in the car. By no means did I bash anyone. I was just surprised that salty licks were still used. I kind of forgot. So relax!!!! LaFonda, are you calling me a liar? What exactly did I lie about? Tell me. Or do you feel guilty about something? If so, what do you feel guilty about? Usually, when people feel the need to put words in peoples mouths, their main prpose is to make that person look bad. Why would you do this? You must feel guilty about something? As for bashing the whole midwest. I was not doing this? I just don't like the idae about hunting over bait. But that's just me!!!! --rossman

  7. Re: Salt Lick Placement So that's why it's easier to kill deer in the mid west, you can use salt licks.... I really didn't think anyone used salt licks or any type of bait pile anymore. As for you question: I would leave the salt lick in the truck because I would feel better about killing a deer without the use of bait. But, to each his own!!!--rossman

    223 for deer

Re: 223 for deer [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I don't see why not. It's all about shot placement. If you feel more confident in a 223 then go fot it, just use a heavier bullet. Too many people get caught up in the big rifle game. A 223 will kill a deer just as good as a 270 or 300. A heart or a lung shot will kill a deer every time!!!! Heck, you could kill an Elk with the right bullet out of a 223. --rossman [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, sure it can kill a deer, maybe even an elk. Heck I know a cattle farmer that shoots cows with a .22 LR. Drops them like a stone, but he's only shooting 15 or 20 yards and shoots them right between the peeps. But my point is, is that everyone doesn't make a perfect shot everytime. Up here, everyone usually uses .30 caliber+ for deer. We do a lot of brush hunting too. But you have more of a chance bringing a deer down with a larger caliber if you're a bit off then with a smaller one. So why risk it? If you're only shooting 100yds in an open field, with a good rest, .223 or .22-250 would work fine. But for the longer, more challenging shots, I'd go with something bigger. There's plenty more options... .243, .25-06, 6mm, .260 Rem.... JMO. [/ QUOTE ] I hear ya, I actually use a .300 weatherby for everything, even yotes so, maybe I shouldn't talk. In brush, I agree that a bigger caliber gun would work better but should we really be shooting through brush? If he's already has a .223 and doesn't want to buy another gun then he should use it. Just wait for a good clear shot.... --rossman
  12. Re: is he a shooter? His G2's look weak. But I would shoot him in a heartbeat, just becasue I never see deer like that in NY!!!! --rossman

  16. Re: new york dmps [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] No, what hunters do is, if they can not get a dmp for their area. They will apply for an area that is easy to get a tag and then shoot a doe in any area they want. [/ QUOTE ] Thats what I just said... [/ QUOTE ] Oh, yeah. So, I agree with you then!!!! Slob hunters everywhere. I over looked your post!!!!!--rossman
  17. Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan Isn't most of the hunting in Texas done on large acreage high fenced ranches? I'm talkin like 10,000 acres or more. I don't know, that's just my impression. please prove me wrong if i am. Also, aren't they two different species of deer? Northern and southern? I would think that sasks has bigger deer and are harder to hunt. --rossman
  18. Re: new york dmps No, what hunters do is, if they can not get a dmp for their area. They will apply for an area that is easy to get a tag and then shoot a doe in any area they want. Happens all of the time. Some hunters don't give a crap. And our DEC sucks too!!!! They're a bunch of ignorant know it alls!!!!! --rossman

  20. Re: Switched to a new string, but have a problem!!!! Did you shoot the string in before setting up your peep? -- No, my proshop put a peep on it when I picked up my bow. Did your FPS go up/down with the custom string?-- My FPS went down about 15 FPS with the new string. And I think the new string is a little bit thicker, so I will check my nocks... Thanks--rossman
  21. Re: wildlife officer demoted check out link ! They should have been fired. If the law itself does not follow the law then we could have total anarchy on our hands. But you guys all know law enforcement does not allways follow the law anyway. For example, We have a no talking on the cell phone while driving policy here in NY. I see cops on their cell phones all of the time while they drive. But it seems like the law can do whatever it is they want sometimes!!!! --rossman
  22. Re: Non Oklahoma Bowhunters..... When I kill my elk this year I will take some pics and send 'em to you!!!!! --rossman
  23. Re: Switched to a new string, but have a problem!!!! I brought it down to the pro shop yesterday and they shot it through paper, and said it shoots perfect. Pefrect center point with even tare's. Now, should the broadhead blades lign up with the veins/feathers? It seems like the one arrow that does fly good has the blades ligned up with the veins. I don't know, my proshop seems to think my bow is in perfect tune. --rossman
  24. Re: Switched to a new string, but have a problem!!!! It's paper tuned, is there any other type of tuning?
  25. I switched to a winners choice custom string last week. But I have a problem. When I shoot my montec g5's I get some irradic flight. for example, one arrow will fly straight, one will fly right, one will drop pff the table. With my old string, my g5's flew straight as an arrow and were very consistant. now they are very irradic. I get perfect cuts through paper so I don't think tunning is an issue, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? Thanks in advance for the help!!!!--rossman
