Re: Team Realtree sticker? Why would you put a "Team Realtree" sticker on your bow if your not an official member of Team Realtree? All due respect, but it's kind of like being a poser.... Don't mean to be a jerk, but it's like me putting a US Airforce sticker on my truck and not being in the airforce. --rossman

Re: Does anyone use that Buck Bomb thing? I don't see any reason to use any scents, as long as you can patern a deer. Al scents do is make the big bucks more wary. Do you see any of the guys on realtree using scents, no!!!! I used to use scents but found out they do more harm than good. I saw more deer that were less spooked with out the use of scents. I put out some scent and they get spooked. Never worked for me!!!--rossman

Re: Crossbows...yeah or nay I have one more thing to add!!!! If I ended up offending anyone, I'm sorry. That was definatually not my intention. I know some of the things I say can be taken as offensive. It's nothing personal. I have just as much respect for a hunter who hunts with a gun, muzzleloader, bow and even cross-bow. I just prefer my bow, so don't take it personal. I've seen some pretty disgusting things during gun season, especially on public land. I'm sure the same does happen during archery, but have yet to see it personally. Ultimately, were all on the same side, but we still have our preferences, agreements and disagreements. Just because we disagree and have different preferences, does not mean any one of us sounds like an "anti". Again, sorry if I offended anyone, I have the same respect for you, no matter what weapon you use, because we are all here for the same reason, to be in the woods, hunting!!!! later--rossman

Re: Crossbows...yeah or nay Wow, you guys have to relax. I never said any of you are slobs and are idiots just because you are gun hunters and I never said all gun hunters are idiots!!!! I know alot of gun hunters that are ethical, and have the maximum respect for deer. Durting gun season, I have seen guys shoot at running deer 250 yards away with a shotgun. To me, a hunter that does this is an idiot because there is no way that shot is makeable, if one hits the deer at this range with a shotgun, the deer will be wounded. I've seen gunhunters wound deer and track for ten minutes then give up. Do you guys understand what I mean? Every bowhunter I know, if he wounds a deer, tracks that deer until his legs are cramped up and can't walk anymore. I never made a generalizatiopn about gunhunters, but I am sure you guys have seen this during gun season. Now, give these same guys a crossbow during bowseason. the same type of crap will happen. And my point is, I like my bowseason and don't want any of this crap happening while I'm trying to hunt my unpressured deer with my bow!!!! Geez, you guys really need to chill. You get way to defensive in here. Do you guys undertand now? If your disabled, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to hunt with a crossbow. But if yuo are capable of pulling back a bow, then you should have to hunt with a bow. OJR, I go out west every year with my bow to hunt fo rwo weeks, so I think I know what hunting is like, especially out west!!!! --rossman

Re: Crossbows...yeah or nay Thee are two types of hunters in my mind. bow hunters and gun hunters. And there is a difference. Many gun hunters have no respect for the land and/or the game they hunt. Especially, while hunting public land in NY. I'm not saying all gun hunters are like this. BUt you get the idea, if your a bowhunter I think you have a different outlook on hunting and have more respect for the game, and take more ethical shots. Many gun hunters don't care. They drink before they hunt and smoke cigarettes while hunting. You get the idea. The reason I don't want crossbows allowed during bowseason for everyone is because the gunhunters will go out and buy crossbows. I do not want to share my bowseason with these idiot gunhunters. Again, I'm not saying all gunhunters are like this but you get the idea. That's why I like bowhunting better because there are far less hunters in the woods and I don't have to deal with the disrespectful and loud gunhunters. Alot of hunters say they want to get as many hunters out in the woods as possible. But deep down, no one ever wants to see another hunter in the woods. Why would you, all it does is scare the der away!!!! If crossbows were legalized for everyone during bowseason then the gunhunters would go out and buy them and us bowhunters would have to deal with them all hunting season not just gun. I hope this made sense!11!--rossman

Re: Crossbows...yeah or nay Oh oh!!! Here we go again!!! Nah!!! I believe hunting with a crossbow is much easier than with a bow. There's alot less movement with a crossbow because there is no need to draw it back. All, you have to do is point and shoot. I look at crossbows as being more like a gun that shoots arrows than a bow. Just my opinions guys, don't be a player hater!!!!! --rossman

Re: new wife has issue with hunting What the heck is a Vegan? Is that like a Pagen? The way I see it. You put your butt on the line over in Iraq and you should do what ever it is you want to do. End of story!!!!!!! --rossman

Re: Paper tuning question? my proshop guy says you can shoot through paper with your field points. he says to shoot with your arrows with field points through paper and use the cuts in the paper from your veins. I don't know if this is the right thing to do but it is just what he said. I paper tuned my bow this way and my montecs shoot straight as an arrow, no pun intended!!!! just what I was told, good luck--rossman

I been shooting my bow with my new sight. The glare from the pins is unbelievable now. It just keeps getting worse. How can I eliminate the glare? It's like I see two pins and can't focus in on my pins. It's so frustrating. Please help!!!!! What can I do to get rid of it? And what seems to cause it? It seems to be worse if I wear my contacts while shooting. Thanks--rossman

WHA coming to an area near my hometown!
rossman replied to AdvantageTimberLou's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: WHA coming to an area near my hometown! I'm not upset man. Not even a little bit. I don't agree with the WHA even if it was fair chase. My point was, that both the WHA and High Fence operations are at fault. If there were no High Fenced places to hunt or the High Fenced places would not allow the WHA to hunt there then the WHA would not exist. I have a couple questions for you guys: If the WHA would use real weapons like bow and arrow or rifle and kill the animals rather than tranquilize them, would you be more inclined to favor the WHA? Are you against this more for the fact that they are using tranquilizer darts or because it takes place inside a fence? Would you favor the WHA if it was fair chase, utilizing lethal weapons? Just a couple questions to ponder. --rossman -
WHA coming to an area near my hometown!

Re: WHA coming to an area near my hometown! Advantage Timberlou, You said, you lost all respect for the lost arrow resort after you heard they were letting the WHA hunt on there property. How did you have respect for Lost Arrow Resort in the firtst place knowing they are a high fenced operation? The problem is not the WHA, it's the high fenced operations that allow the WHA to hunt inside their fences. If there were no High Fenced Operations then the WHA could not exist. These high fenced enclosures are a disgrace, evan more than the WHA!!!!!! -
Re: gotta handful of tags Im ready to go!!!!! I did pretty well also. I drew a wyoming elk tag, colorado elk tag, colorado antelope and Kansas rifle tag. The only tag I did not draw but wanted the most was a wyoming mule deer archery tag. But I can not complain. Me and a bud are flying out to Colorado August 14th to hunt the opener, the 15th through the 17th and flying home on the 18th. Then my father, brother and I are driving to wyoming the second week of september and hunting elk, non guided "tresspass fee" hunt. After that we will be driving down to south west Colorado to ride the horses into the wilderness for wilderness elk hunt. Finally, my brother and I are shooting out to Kansas for the opening week of their rifle season. Oh yeah, none of these hunts are inside a fence!!! !!! lol!!!!! --rossman

Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operation!
rossman replied to rossman's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operati I'm not saying, herding any animal into a cliff and then cornering them for a shot. My point is, If I spotted a mule deer bedded up with his back to a cliff then I would try and shoot him. But if I cornered a mule deer up to a man made fence then I would be disgusted with myself for even thining about shooting him. I was trying to give an example why, man made barriers should not even be compaed to natural barriers. For obvious reasons of course!!! And, no I would never "herd" mule deer or elk up to a cliff so I could shoot them. It is just not possible to do so, you would need to be superman to be able to catch up to these high country animals. That is why hunting these animals inside any type of enclosure is not fair. When chasing elk, you may have to chase them for miles and miles. Relocate them time and time again, move into position, only to have the wind shift and have them blow over the mountain into the next county. Then, after days of walking, stalking, setting up, blistered feet, sleep deprivation, being hungry and thirsty; you finally get a shot and get your kill!!!Now, this is hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With an enclosure of any type, you know the boundaries and you can always find the herd of elk. Now you tell me, is it really fair to hunt an animal like an elk in an enclosure of any kind? No of course not!!!! It's not fair for the elk and it will never be considered hunting to me!!!! --rossman -
Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operation!
rossman replied to rossman's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operati Islands are a natural barrier. If we look at islands being a "fence" than should we kill a mule deer that's bedded next to a cliff? Seeing how he can't get away due to the cliff. This is why I draw the line at "man made" barriers. The line that I draw for myself, is the "man made" fence. Now, I'm not talking about short fences that are made to keep livestock in like cows. I'm talking about the 8 - 10 foot fences that are made to keep Elk, deer, exotics, etc. inside just so a person can kill that animal. Any, fenced in area, no matter what the acreage of enclosure, to me is not fair chase and I would rather sit on my couch than to hunt this way. If I have it in my head that I'm not hunting fair chase, then I will not be happy with my kill. Finally, an example using two extreams! Would you rather kill an elk 15 miles back into the wilderness of Colorado? Or would you rather kill an elk in an enclosure that is 13,000 acres in area? For me, obviously I would pick the wilderness kill. But that's just the type of hunter I want to be. If your choice is the enclosure, then I may not respect your type of hunting, but that does not mean I will not respect you as a person. I hope this post made sense, I'm dragging realy bad on this 95 degree monday morning!!!!--rossman -
Re: What cut on contact heads do you recommend? I shot the 85 grain G5 Montecs last night and they flew great. 3 inch group and 40 yard. The only thing is, they whistle as they fly. Do you guys think an elk can hear that noise and move? --rossman

Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operation!
rossman replied to rossman's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Realtree.com cover story, support H.F. Operate If you own 10,000 acres it is just as easy to promote antler growth with food plots as it is in side a fenced in 10,000 acres. I doupt this is the reason B and C or P and Y don't allow entried from fenced in properties. The reason is because it is not fair chase!!! --rossman -

Re: Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operati [ QUOTE ] I'm curious about something. If I had 1 million acres (approximately 1500 square miles) surrounded by a high fence, would you consider hunting in there to not be fair chase? [/ QUOTE ] NO... If it is inside a fence then for me, it is not fair chase. But that's just me. I have a question for you. If you shoot a trophy animal insiode a fenced in area, even a 1 million acre fenced in area, will Pope and Young and/or Boone and Crocket recognize this animal for the books? Finally, these are my opinions, anybody can do whatever the heck they want.--rossman -
Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operation!
rossman replied to rossman's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Realtree.com cover story, suports H.F. Operati OK, so if some of you see that hunting on an island is compared to hunting inside a fence, then your nuts. Deer swim, deer don't jump 10 feet in the air!!!!! On an island, deer can and will swim away if they sense danger. It just seems so obvious, a fence is a fence, it is not fair chase. As for "elk being able to hide and elude a hunter on 13,000 acres". That depends on how many elk there are on the property!!!! If you have one elk then it may be tough, but I bet if you tried hard enough, you could find him. Now, if there are 2 thousand elk, then it is like shooting fish in a barrel!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not fair, it's not fair chase and it's not hunting, it's shooting!!!!!--rossman -
Re: Opinions on Rocket Aeroheads Yes, they do fly like field points. I used to use the wolverinve and the steelheads. They fly perfectly!!!! I had great luck with them on the first six deer I killed. But my last two deer I shot, I never recovered. My shots were not bad and I definatually hit vitals. The blades seem dull out of the box. I switched to the grim reapers after I lost the last two deer. I just lost confidence in them. later--rossman

Re: What cut on contact heads do you recommend? [ QUOTE ] Seriously thinking of switching to Slick-Tricks for this comming season. http://slicktrick.net/ [/ QUOTE ] The slick tricks look cool. But do they really fly like a field point? Many companies say this but it never seems to work for me. I may have to get me a pack of those!!!! Thanks guys--rossman

Re: 07\' Hunt If it was me, I would only go out west for elk or muleys. because i can hunt whitetails here at home. Check your budget and I can give you recommendations for elk and mule deer operations in wyoming or colorado. Either way, good luck!!!!--rossman

As of now I shoot mechanical broadheads. But were going out west to try and arrow our first Elk. I want to switch to a fixed blade cut on contact broadhead. I was wondering what heads you guys reccomend. We are in the process of trying the Montec G5's in the 85 grain and 100 grain. Because I am pulling close to 70 pounds, with an arrow speed close to 280 ft/sec and using the carbon express 300's, I don't think the difference between a 85 grain head and a 100 grain head will make any significant difference. What other heads do you guys recommend? I would prefer to stay with a 85 grain head but will use a 100 grain head if it shoots better. Thanks guys--rossman
