Hey guys, just returned from a week long trip to Oklahoma for FFA National Land Judging so I haven't bee able to hunt. Went this morning in the downpour and still only hens. Drove around looking in some fields I can hunt thinking the birds would be out and nothing. Going to dry off, eat, and head back out.
-
Well team, still no toms or jakes! I see several hens everyday about 20 yards away, but none of the big boys. On my way to work this morning there were 8 right on the side of the road. One nice tom, one jake, and 6 hens. I'm still after them.

WOW!! All that and you're thinking about us!?! Sit back and take it easy....I'm just glad you're alright. You are always welcome in here, if I've learned one thing about these forums, it's that everyone is family! Get well and keep posting on how it's going!

Well guys, all I have seen is a bunch of hens. I have hens all around me, but have yet to see a Tom. The one I was watching before season just vanished. Hopefully I'll have better luck as the season goes on.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Great Job! Especially taking one with a bow. I don't think I could ever get a turkey with a bow. Great job guys, my season is 6 days away!

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 It has been too hot too early here as well. However, we are fixing to hit a cold snap in the weather for the next week. Season opens April 14th for me so I'm getting really excited. I have been watching numerous hens in the yard daily, but no toms or jakes. The hens even get within 15 yards of the house, crazy!

Re: **HUNTIN PICS FROM THE PAST** beware dial-up* Man I hope you know you are living the dream! Most of us can only dream of hunting like that our entire lifetime and you've completed it a young age. Great job and great pictures! -

Re: 22 Shells not Bullets Thanks Wing. I did a seach and found that one type is called the Rat-Shot, not sure if this is the same as the CB's Here is what I found, but it doesn't tell me how they alter my shooting or accuracy when going back to the regular 22 long rifle bullet. "Rat-shot is very small lead shot (usually #12 shot) which is typically loaded into a cartridge not generally considered a shotgun shell. The most common cartridges loaded with rat-shot are the .22 Long Rifle or pistol or revolver cartridges. Using rat-shot cartridges allows one to convert a handgun or rifle into a small shotgun suitable for short-range use."

Re: 22 Shells not Bullets No, I'm afraid to try anything but the traditional 22 rifle bullet since I was told the pellets coming out of the barrel would mess up the shooting accuracy. What is the CB's?
-
I have been wanting to buy the pellet type shells for my 22 for shooting, but was told by a friend that they would damage the barrel and mess up the way the 22 bullet shoots. Is there any truth to this?

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Watching a lot of birds while I'm out scouting. I just hope they don't disappear when season starts! I have my eye on this nice size tom, even have it down to when and where he will be.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Good Luck Dosse! Also, Welcome to the team iabow! Looking forward to a great year, hope everyone has a safe season!

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 I like Strut Studs as well. So that's 3 for strut studs, anyone else have any idea or votes? Looks like we are only missing one person now.
-
Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 It reads they will have a reasonable amount of time to show, but no specifics. VA Gobblin is our team leader and is the one who is suppose to report in. We still have 3 not to post. Hope they all show.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Not 100% sure, but I know it is right at tax time every year. So, it should be April 14th this year. How long do we wait on the no-shows before we turn it in?
-
Re: 8 - Team Hammertime Sorry team that I let you down. I did manage to get a doe on the last day, but never entered it since it would not put us in the lead. I kept waiting for one of those bucks I say on my cam, but they never showed. I would had to get a 10pt or larger for us to take the lead and I never saw above an 8, which never provided a good shot. Once again, sorry guys.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Well, Looks like I'm the first to check in. I hope not to let this team down like I did my deer contest team. Good luck to all and safe hunting. As for a name, I have no clue.

Re: land question [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Make sure you exhaust all your options i.e. contacting dnr, state off, corp because you could get into some serious trouble by disturbing natural habitat but a culvert sounds like the answer GOOD LUCK [/ QUOTE ]Nutz is right, In WI if you do anything to alter a wetland you are in deep doo-doo!! [/ QUOTE ] This land used to not be a wetland, has been altered by the idiot who owns the property next to me. You guys mean to tell me that what he has done is irreversible because it has become a wetland I am certain that the laws here in regards to water ways and drainage, that it is illegal to divert the natural flow of the water on land that will effect another property which is what the neighbor has done, however I am not looking to file a suit or take it up with him, as all that would lead to is the potential for what might become a violent situation and with my family here, I do not want to go that route. [/ QUOTE ] I'm afraid what they are saying may hold true. Even if the wetland is man-made, it becomes a natural wetland over time, just how much time it takes I'm not sure. However, each case is different. Couple of suggestions: 1) lease it out to duck hunters to make some money, I for one would be interested. 2) if you want to use the land for other purposes, put up a levee or culvert to keep the water from entering your land. Buy a tractor pump to pump all the water out of your land. Flood it during duck season and charge people to hunt as a way to pay for the dirt work and pump.

Re: Goofy Mule Deer DEER DO JUMP OFF BRIDGES! There is a railroad bridge next to my fathers house. One evening a woman who goes to my church was coming up one side while another car was coming in the other direction. There was a 7pt buck in the middle so he jumped off the side. I went up later and found him dead.

Re: 8 - Team Hammertime Hey guys, Bad news. I just checked team 5's post and they are coming up with 123 points after two new enteries. So, me going for a doe this weekend will not get it done. I have to find a 6pt to tie or 7pt for the lead. Things just got a little more tricky. Monday is the last day here, but I'm off from work. I'll be out all weekend and report back Tuesday. Wish me luck.

Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? Love his concept mostly. It has really helped in saving and knowing where the money goes, but like Steven said, I don't listen daily like I once did. However, I still follow his plan with some modifications and I will/am better off because of it all. I for one will never buy a new car again after doing some research into is info, I agree with the concept 100%.
