Just to clear things up, and for whoever moved this to the bowhunting page...It's not archery I'm having a hard time with, it's with my shotgun and muzzleloader (Illinois). Keep the responses coming no matter what page it's under though! I appreciate it! Ryan

Ok...I have target panic, and for those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it's basically me getting anxious and pulling the trigger too soon without being steady on my target. When I was growing up (I'm 21) and until now, I've been very good at target archery and overall shooting whether it be target or hunting situations. This particular case is with guns. If I don't think about it, I'm fine, but if I do, I can't control it. It might sound really dumb, and I feel really dumb, but I know that other people do this too. It's never happened when hunting, just practice, but I get nervous that it will happen when I have Mr. Big in front of me! I was wanting any helpful hints, advice, or practice/training strategies anyone could offer! Thanks so much, Ryan

I've got a Remington 870 20 ga., and I've always shot really cheap slugs through it. I'm going to upgrade, but need some suggestions. Has anyone had experience testing different slugs with this gun? Do I need rifled or sabot? I read the thread about Hornadys and Lightfields, but would still like to hear a few responses to my specific questions. Thanks a lot! Take care, Ryan

It's opening day here in Illinois, and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pumped! Got class this morning, then work, but I'll be out in the afternoon lookin for Mr. Big. Good luck to everyone from Illinois this season, along with everywhere else! 1, 2, 3...BREAK! Ryan

Congrats man! Now get out there and find his grand daddy! Good luck, Ryan

I have a Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme. I don't use it anymore, but it was awesome. You can see just about the entire deer, so you know how far back you're aiming. I was thinking about switching back to it, but I would highly advise giving it a try! Good luck, Ryan

Been thinkin about putting these in my arrows this season or at least next, so I can use up my Montecs. Anyone use them, how do they fly compared to field points? Like them or dislike them? Thanks, Ryan

I'll obviously be wearing this under my Realtree AP stuff...but I'm still wondering if anyone has used this shirt and pants in cold weather and how it performed. Thanks all! Ryan

Anyone used the APX expedition weight shirt and pants as a base layer? I'm thinking about buying them and wanted a couple reviews. Really warm? Comfortable? Thanks a lot! Take care, Ryan

I have a really nice Alpine quiver, but ever since I put a Muzzy Zero Effect rest on my bow, the quiver won't fit onto the bow. I just started carrying the arrows in the quiver with the quiver in my backpack, but it's kind of a pain, and I had to hang the quiver from one of the little screw in bow holders and was worried that it would fall off. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should carry my arrows, i.e. a back quiver, etc. Thanks! Good luck, Ryan

There are a ton of things to do in this scenerio. Here are some suggestions. Remember that I don't know how much time you have to devote to all of these strategies, so act accordingly. First of all, congrats on seeing such a huge deer. It doesn't sound like you're taking it for granted at all! Next, you obviously want to figure out what he liked about the area he was in before, and try to utilize it. If there is a fence that he's crossed to move to his new home, this is a trick to use. Take a piece of wire and tie the top two wired together on the fence, creating a shorter jump for him, and set it up right where you want him to cross. Deer are lazy sometimes, and will take the easiest way around, through, or over something. You can also check to see if there are any large tracks around the area you tie the fence during scouting. Another thing that you mentioned that could draw him back to your area is a mock scrape line. If you set it up starting somewhere close to where he is now and bring it to where you are able to hunt, it might get him pretty curious, especially if you use dominant buck urine. Also, if you can, lead him from bed to feed, or bed to water or anything like that would work into a natural pattern he could form. Finally, you'll have to plan these things around the rut. All of the ideas that have been said by everyone are good ideas, but will only work in certain conditions. Rattling can easily scare deer away if it's done at the wrong time, and drives are a little touchy sometimes. If there is a lot of hunting pressure surrounding your area or his area, you might want to get going on these things before the pre-rut and rut stages, as those are the times when most people are out. This will assure you that there will be little outside disturbance to affect your plan. I hope this helps, and you'll definitely have to let everyone know how it goes! Good luck to you. Ryan

That probably freaked me out just enough to make me look over all of my arrows just in case! Thanks, Ryan -
I just got the bow out about a week ago and started practicing for 3D tourneys again and I'm started playing Cabela's Outdoor Adventures on Playstation the other day...needless to say, I'm excited too!!! Good luck, Ryan

I think I like...both! Haha..they're both very sharp! I'd definitely use the yellow ones for turkey season and the blue ones for deer! Nice work. Good luck, Ryan

rough sketch i made of my farm.. what looks like good hunting spots?
Born4it replied to a topic in Bowhunting
I would say on that draw between the larger pond, two corn fields, two food plots, and alfalfa field. It's a nice funnel where there is 3 different food choices, water, and probably some bedding area in those woods. I would just ay to look for places where things meet. The SW corner as it's pictured looks fairly promising as well where the food meets the water and some woods. Scout, scout, scout! Good luck, Ryan -
Looking into buying new bow! Any suggestions(Hoyt,Mathews.etc.)
Born4it replied to a topic in Bowhunting
My vote is for Hoyt, but you definitely need to try out all that you can and choose the one that you have the best gut feeling about. Shoot different ones until you KNOW you've found the right one...and you'll know when you do! Good luck, Ryan -
What happened is that I shot a couple deer with the broadheads and they have dried blood and a couple hairs on them. Could I just wash them off and use them if I clean them very well? Thanks for your help! Ryan

Has anyone done this? You don't really need the G5 Montec Sharpener do you? I was just going to use a regular stone. Thanks for the advice! Take care, Ryan
