Often "Ballistic reticles" are only good for one power setting on the scope. Even then you really need to find out how accurately they work with your rifle. Target turrets are generally a better deal but if the scope won't "walk the grid" with turret adjustments they are pretty useless.

Bravo! Even though it is an absurd combination of actions and words. The laughter it brings out of me seriously diminishes or eliminates the pain. Which is in truth the effect the person doing the slapping (not hard slapping) wants to happen anyway. And nope didn't see a deer tonight. Last day of the season is Jan 1st and I don't know if I'll get to go.
-
I haven't had any booze. I'm just in a good mood and acting goofey because I'm going hunting this afternoon. The deer have been moving real good late in the day with the rising moon. I'm just a little pumped up with excitement, nothing more than that.

To get slapped on every syllable of this sentence, "Stop(smack) hurting(smack smack) your(smack) self(smack)."??? Rational or not it usually makes me laugh so hard I feel no pain!

I was duck hunting with one of Buck Gardner's employees this year. He recommended the Double Nasty II or the Buckshot Mag Nasty to me. This guy can flat call.

Anyone good with computer games and system requirements?
Leo replied to Turkeygirl's topic in Lounge
Yep Mossyhorn, I like Newegg too. You also need to know if your computer needs an AGP or PCI Express interface card. Some computers have both slots in their motherboard but that's rare nowadays. Practically all of them that are less than 2 yrs old have PCI express sockets only. Your current graphics capability may be "Onboard" (meaning the graphics card is physically part of the motherboard). Onboard cards "share" system memory. An intensely enough graphics application will cause a "fight" between the operating system and the graphics chip for memory resources. This "fight" usually shows up as slow downs and crashes. On "shared" systems you often need twice the minimum recommended memory to run the game. A good graphics card with it's own dedicated memory will really give an older system that uses shared memory a boost. -

Your best bet when determining if the game will run on your PC is always to download the demo and try it first. Then you can determine if you need new drivers, a memory expansion or a faster graphics card. -
The strings and cables take a big part of the shock during a dry fire. If they look fuzzier than they did before the dry fire and suddenly your peep no longer lines up, I'd suspect string and cable damage.

I found it amazing when I was in RSA just how old some of the animals we took were.
-
Sounds like a good thing the Dentist was able to see you on short notice. Glad you feel better.

How old would you say that Nyala is? I'm absolutely not an experienced judge on this but I would guess 7 or 8 years old. Am I close?
-
This is a gorgeous Nyala! Shorter on one side but I don't care. Thank you Gerhard.

That's a good buck for sure! 19 inches inside is honestly quite wide. Glad you got him. You did good!

You can hunt most any North American animal for less than a Safari cost IF you do all or most of it yourself. But if you compare apples to apples, in otherwords, a professionally guided hunt in North America versus a professionally guided hunt in Africa than you absolutely can do the safari trip for less. You pay the same amount for a N.A. trip whether you succeed or not. In africa your trip cost is hinged on what you actually shoot. As far as the Texas option goes, here's an example, at Infinito the trophy fee for an impala is $350, at the 777 ranch in Texas the trophy fee for an impala is $5000! Even after adding up your costs, you literally can go to africa and shoot an impala plus a couple more animals for less than 777s trophy fee alone! It's a greater experience than I can describe. Trip of a lifetime? I hope not. I wanna go back.

Back when I wore work boots almost everyday I couldn't get a pair of lace ups to last much longer than 3 months either. I switched to slip on type Wellingtons and would still wear the soles out in three months but they were cheaper to resole than replace. Typically the new soles were better than the originals and would last much longer (sometimes a year). You can get steel toe Wellingtons for pretty reasonable prices. The uppers on these style boots last much better than lace ups in my experience. Basspro used to carry a Wellington Steel toe in their Redhead line. They don't anymore as far as I can tell. Too bad that was a good boot at a great price. I've had the Redhead Wellingtons resoled as many as three times. I like my Georgia Boots now but I am not even close to being as tough on boots as I used to be, so I can't for sure say how tough these boots rate.

Yep this time of year especially geese are in the safety in numbers mood. It takes a massive number of decoys to pull them in and several hunters to cover the spread. For someone going it alone in the late season your best bet is to find a spot they are using frequently. Get there before they do and wait them out without decoys. If you scare them out of a field in the afternoon late season they often won't return for a couple days. The exception to this is if there are very few desirable places for them to land in the area. If you are using big shot like T's or BB's most of the time a modified choke patterns better. It's quite easy to overchoke big pellets and end up throwing blown patterns.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you are doing better. It would be my pleasure to join you as well.

Nice pictures Gerhard! That eland looks like a UPS truck on hooves! Eland are BIG! Impala were one of my favorites to hunt when I was in Africa. So much so that if I return I'll probably try for another. This was from my bowhunt. The shot was 33 yards and this was after two groups came through and offered no shots.

+ They have a box magazine versus a tubular magazine. That's a major plus for the BLR because you can shoot standard pointed bullets in them. (The BLR 22 rimfire is the only exception. These have tubular magazines.) + They also don't require offset rings if you want to scope them. Quite a few lever actions are extremely challenging to mount a scope on. Many aren't accurate enough to justify scoping (some are though). + They are quite accurate and because of their ammo flexibility you can typically find a factory round it really likes. The only minuses I've experienced with them is some have a trigger that is really tough. I don't think these are adjustable. The trigger is part of the lever assembly. That's good because the trigger won't pinch your finger when working the action. The bad thing about it is if the lever is just a tiny bit away from being completely closed the trigger will not work. It's a safety thing and I don't want them to change that but it does take a little getting used to. You'll think it's closed and it won't be. I got in the habit of squeezing the lever down before every shot. It becomes an automatic thing very quickly. I personally think they are the very best lever gun ever.

It's not just the hole pattern that needs to be matched. The base contour needs to mate with the action contour accurately as well. I suggest you might want to save yourself that headache. You can order some Talley Lightweights for the Vanguard for $42.95. These are combined ring+base assemblies. Easy to put on and rock solid. http://www.talleymanufacturing.com Here is a set I put on my Weatherby Mark V.

If the 150gr bullets jam try the 165s and 180s. Most semi-autos cycle the heavier stuff much better. Personally I would have suggested you go straight to the 180s and stick with the Remington Ammo.

Generally the powder burns up in the first 18 inches of a shotgun barrel. Still I'd prefer at least a 24" barrel on a shotgun, all day long. A little more velocity, a little more twist to stabilize the slug and a lot less muzzle jump. The muzzle jump issue is a really big deal if you plan on scoping this gun.
