Re: Ohio deer hunters Tags are overpriced IMO so yeah I'll use it. So will allot of other hunters. Thats the point, to reduce the herd. Did you see the proposal by the farm and insurance lobby's? Their plan was to cut the deer herd in half, yea half, so it's really just a reaction to that. They won't be happy until we hardly ever see a deer. Get em while you can!

Re: Road Hunting Done Right ?? Other then the "high speed" traffic violation, as long as he was on the other side of the ditch, that would be legal here. Sounds hilarious. Got any video?

What do you need to do to put a x-box 360 online? Do I have to buy a subscription? All my kids want to do is be able to play some of the older games they already own. I have the hard drive model and roadrunner lite. thanks

Re: Where do you live? I'm 46, divorced and live in a van down by the river. Live to hunt, hunt to live!

I'll start; One of my favorite memories was several years ago on the first day of duck season. We were set up on a small river near two lakes. We knocked a few down early and the action slowed. About 8 o'clock, the biggest flock of mallards I have ever seen came over the horizon from the direction of the lakes, probably spooked from all the hunters into one big flock. I swear it was like a cloud that blocked out the sun. As the older birds circled up high the juveniles were dropping into the dekes like rain. We held our fire to see if we could get the whole flock to land. Another group of hunters setup 150yds down river in a lesser spot pulled up and shot a single and the big flock flew off. I'll never forget that sight as long as I live. Another was when I was by myself wading a creek looking to bust some woodies. I flushed two from behind a logjam and missed. Just as I was about to hang my head one of them came flying back towards me being chased by a red tailed hawk. The hawks talons drew tailfeathers and the woody flew into the treeline where the hawk would not follow. I pulled up and dropped the woody on the bank. The hawk landed on a limb was looking for a way to get at what he thought was his kill. It was'nt until I started moving towards the duck that he flew off. Strange how the shot did not seem to bother him.

Re: Crossbow Facts ** Crossbows are ok with me.Use whatever weapon you want, long as it's in fair chase, just get the lingo right. When you people say bow and arrow, thats what people think of, not a crossbow and bolt. It's actually quite common, someone proclaims "got him with the bow", then when they stumble in their answers talking to someone that actually knows something they'll admit "well, I used a crossbow". Not sayin anyone here said that, just try'n to explain how annoying it is. Kinda like shootin a Coot and calling it a Black Duck. Maybe someone can explain to me why crossbow hunters do that?

Re: Homemade strutter.........(pics) So when you pull on a string his fan comes up? Cool! Be careful with that thing. I'm working on finishing up my own decoy, a hen I shot last fall and wrapped the feathers around a broken Delta decoy.

Re: Baiting Birds [ QUOTE ] Baiting turkeys in Alabama is illegal but that doesn't stop some people from doing it. [/ QUOTE ] Same here. I once tried for 2 mornings to call in a gobbling bird that was just down over a rise on an old logging road with no success. He would answer my calls but would not come up there. On the third day I said thats it and deciced to go in amongts them. As it got light I could see corn husk everywhere and where someone had dismantled a makeshift blind out of pine boughs, obviously they had already got their bird before I came along and was long gone. Knowing the baiting laws I knew I had to get out of there in case a GW came along and gave me the ticket. You don't even have to know it's there and they can give you a ticket, you have to be so many yards from the bait site (same for waterfowl). I was not happy.

Re: shooting in the roost Some guy's just don't get it about the magic of calls. They just can't seem to give up their deer huntin tactics. Lots of guy's try to ambush them like deer, some try to drive them towards waiting hunters, others surround the roost then send a guy in to flush them at legal shooting time giving at least one of the standers a flying shot, then theres the guy that will try to sneak up on them, all legal tactics that sometimes produce. Roost shooters though in my book are the bottom of the barrel, totally illegal here.

Re: New Turkey Hunter Needs Help Fast!!!!!!! Go to the Gobbler!!
-
Re: Will they be back? [ QUOTE ] Here at home, as hens shift their roosting patterns closer to where they'll nest, the gobblers will often shift roosting areas to stay close to the hens anyway. [/ QUOTE ] Excellent point! If you kill the dominant bird a lesser bird will move in. Not knowing what happened to the Boss they might just see it as their lucky day. Whats really tough is when you had two birds running together and you shoot one of them and the other one see's the kill. That second bird can be really tough to hunt. Like Deer, hunt the Hens and the Gobblers will be there. If there's any left LOL If not the jakes will take over. As the season progresses and the Hens are on their nest, gobblers will stake out a location nearby and let the hens come to them. Later when the hens quit coming they start to freak out and go looking. This can be the best time IMO as they will really come to the call.

Re: I\'ve just lost all respect for John McCain It does not make them an automatic citizen and it does give them a penalty. Did you even read the bill? I have nothing but respect for him and was ready to cast my vote for him last time but to my disappointment he did not make it past the primary. NEA sucks!

Re: Roost Trees Large trees with horizontal limbs. They tend to favor terrain that offers some protection from the weather. One of my best spots is a SE slope with a large stand of pines at the top of the ridge that cuts the wind. During bad weather look for them in thick stands of pines down low or along creek bottoms. During fair weather they may roost high up on a ridge or in a solitary tree at the edge of a field. Weather has alot to do with it as they seem to be able to predict it. This is not everything but hope it helps.

Re: Whatta you think [ QUOTE ] check carter and clinton as the worst presidents ever. [/ QUOTE ] Take off those rose colored glasses and you will see that Bush will go down with Nixon as the worse. Fiscal responsibility mean anything to you? Again, horrible record on the enviroment, etc. Clinton may have had bad morals but was not a bad President. Clinton ruined a dress, Bush ruined a nation. I'll give you Carter though but only because he was a male Mother Tereasa. And just for the record, I think Ronny Raygun was the best. [ QUOTE ] PYArcher, what do you do for a living??? [/ QUOTE ] Ever heard of BurgerWorld? Seriously, I am currently working in the entertainment industry.

Re: Whatta you think [ QUOTE ] but that won't change the fact that I'm still correct. [/ QUOTE ] So Mark Rey is in charge of the Bush administration? Accountability begins at the top. [ QUOTE ] I guess when some of YOU people start to realize that you cannot blame EVERYTHING that has gone wrong in your life on the man who has been elected to run the country. [/ QUOTE ] This made me laugh! You'd be surprised wnthunt! [ QUOTE ] So tell me oh knowledgeable one. What are these wonderful benefits you speak of that teachers get. I suggest if you are going to spout off on something you at least do some research to keep yourself from looking like a ****. [/ QUOTE ] I refuse to call people names on the internet and try not to respond to those who do but in your case slugshooter I'll make an exception. First off it's not my fault she teaches in a poor state. Did she not do any research as to what she was getting into as her choice of careers? Maybe she should become a professor. [ QUOTE ] She only works 8 months out of the year huh? Well, lets see, she starts in August and ends in June, so that means she works approximately 9 1/2 to 10 months of the year. [/ QUOTE ] Now subtract Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break. And who else gets Jan 2, MLK day, Pres. day, good friday off in addition to all the normal federal holidays off? Not to mention teacher in service days that are really just half days. Do the math. Sounds to me like whining! [ QUOTE ] She has to be there by 7am, she doesn't leave until after 4pm, [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like a normal work day to me. Are you saying she has crappy benefits? How about that crap they call tenure? [ QUOTE ] I can't tell you how many times she has come home crying because of some ignorant parent. [/ QUOTE ] Unless they were just plain horrible I would never do that. Same goes for coaches. ---------------------------------------------------------- "It was Whittingtons fault" Katharine Armstrong

Re: Whatta you think Whatta I think? Just another example of our worse President ever. What a bunch of crap. When are some of you people gonna realize that? He picks up a shotgun once a year for a photo op and that makes him a hunter? If he was a real hunter he would not have such a horrible record on the enviroment. He only cares about big corporations and the almighty dollar. He's playin you people like a fiddle. If we have a right to to the natural resources then does'nt future generations also have that right? Hows that gonna happen for them if we ruin it in the name of the economy? And Texan blames it on the left LMAO I can see it now someone coming on here and posting up "Bush sold my huntin spot" I'm sick of hearing teachers whine about their pay. Whats wrong with their pay? Benefits out the ginghy and only work 8 months out of the year. If they want more pay become a professor. Nothin but a bunch of idealist anyway. We got teachers on this very site that post up while they're at work. The success a student achieves in school starts at home. Parents who value education and understand the benefits of their children doing well in school will work with their children. Parenting is the most important job we will ever have and requires no degree. Too many people have children and have no idea how to raise them.

Re: Tracks-how big is big? Good question! It’s hard to say by looking at a your picture and no one can tell for sure (by looking at just one track) but generally speaking a big bucks track is definitely bigger than a doe track. The way those toes are splayed and the depth of the dew claws would also lead me to believe this is a considerably heavier animal. Width is more important than length and from your picture it looks to be almost two and a half inches wide. Like Buckee said "Bigger tracks don't necessarily mean a bigger deer, because some deer have big feet and some have small feet" but a wide track is a better indicator of a big buck. Older bucks walk more flat footed than a smaller buck from the extra weight and will show mor of the dew claws.
