Re: Antler Turning White [ QUOTE ] Was it outside on the ground? [/ QUOTE ] Only after I shot him with a Franchi spas-12 as he was trying to get away, it has been hanging on my wall for 16 years. It is not near a heat duct or window although it is up near the ceiling where it is warmer. My neighbor has a wide rack that is thirty years old and it is begining to turn bone white, and I don't want mine to end up like that. Is there anything I could do to preserve them?

Re: Sleeper Big Buck States??? I would have to say Georgia. For a southern state, they seem to do alright.

Re: The Bible- Fiction or Non-fiction? To those of you that instant message me about this topic of evolution, I offer this. web page

Re: The Bible- Fiction or Non-fiction? Anyone who doesn't believe in a supreme being needs to spend more time in the outdoors. People that know I hunt sometimes ask me how I can shoot "such a lovely creature?". It says in the bible that to kill another human being is a sin. Why? Because man has a soul that God didn't give the other animals. Yes I said "the other animals". Let me explain. Not too long after scientist successfully fertilized a human embryo with the semen from an ape the Vatican changed their stance on the theory of evolution, essentialy accepting it. The document itself is in latin. Do a search (Pope theory of evolution) and you can see it for yourself. I agree with it. Here is my understanding of what the Pope said; [when man evolved enough to begin to worship his creater that was when God gave man a soul and that, it was Gods way that man evolve from dust] I have decided that the purpose in life is children and the meaning of life is God sharing his love for us with the gift of life on Earth.

I've got an old gun kill that is starting to lose it's color. Is there anything I could do that would keep it from deteriorating into dust? Thanks

Re: Only in Ohio What's in a name? Suppose they renamed it Bush Rd. With a name like that, it would have to be good, right?

Re: William Tell [ QUOTE ] the story of William Tell was a fairy tale. [/ QUOTE ] A fairy tale? Where do you think I'm posting from here, the Neverland ranch? You must be thinking of that crossbow in "Little Red Riding Hood", that was a fairy tale. I got my info from the book "Fred Bears World of Archery", which by the way is a must read for every aspiring archer. You tryin to say you know more about archery then Fred Bear did?

That dude that shot that apple off of his sons head, well, he did it with a crossbow. Comments?

Re: a lot of bucks I seen ten bucks while Turkey hunting last month and one of them looked to be good and thick. We had a late winter ice storm that put alot of food on the ground for them, so they should be in good shape.

Re: Pope and Young Club The question was "are you a member?" not if you had any entries. You can be in the book and still not be a member. [ QUOTE ] Also, you can't just pay your dues and join. It's a club you got to make by taking a record book animal, P&Y or B&C club. Then pay your dues to stay a member. [/ QUOTE ] Not correct. [ QUOTE ] The only requirement to join as an Associate Member is to be a bowhunter and have pursued the challenge long enough to have harvested at least one adult North American big game animal with the bow and arrow (not necessarily of record class size). The Associate Membership is unlimited in number to qualified individuals. Membership in the Pope and Young Club is entirely separate from the Records, which is one of the programs maintained by the Club. [/ QUOTE ] Update; effective this year dues are now $35

Re: Pope and Young Club Me too. If you've taken a doe you can be a member. $25 a year.

Re: Going to water? I believe you guy's are right, there is no set time. Thought I'd ask though. I've never been able to figure it out. I know when they roost over water they got to be drinking it, but sometimes where they are roosted I know there is no water and it plays in my mind trying to figure a game plan. Another spot I hunt is a spring seep that I know the birds are using from all the sign, but hunting it is hit or miss, mostly miss as I've only bagged one bird there in 8 yrs. A whole flock came in about 11:30

During dry seasons in your area, have you observed birds going to water and if so what time of day was it? What do you think the prefered watering time is?

Re: Practice. Oh yea, I shoot year round. I like to combine practice with my exercise routine. When I return from my run I'll have my bow laid out and take a few shots. With my heart rate elevated it simulates the moment of truth and forces you to concentrate on form. Try it, you'll see what I mean.

Re: Momentum, Kenetic Energy and Arrow Penetration [ QUOTE ] i guess Fred Bear shouldnt have went Polar bear hunting with a recurve. i dont think anyone told him he didnt have enough KE to make a killing shot ? [/ QUOTE ] Did'nt he use like a 90-100# Kodiak with an arrow to match on that hunt? [ QUOTE ] arrows kill by hemorage , not knock down power [/ QUOTE ] True, but it is still a factor. [ QUOTE ] we can crunch numbers all we want but in the end its what your most accurate with... [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, accuracy is the #1 factor. That being said a heavier arrow penetrates deeper. Those of you with your little skinny arrows and your little mechanical broadheads trying to get within a 1/16th of an inch from the bullseye are in for a rude awakening!
-
Re: Momentum, Kenetic Energy and Arrow Penetration [ QUOTE ] It depends on how big the bone is you are driving the arrow through [/ QUOTE ] Good answer. Deer have an amazing ability to take a hit and keep on running. A deer over 250lbs is tough! If you want to smash through both rib cages your going to need momentum. IMO Personally, I shoot a fairly heavy arrow (2413) out of a fairly fast bow (black max). Everyone is free to shoot what they want in their area.

Re: My Family Thats a great pic of your ladies BBH, glad to see you went with the bowling ball look! Livin a dream arn't ya? Your buddy hillbilly hoosier is here. You two should hook up. You still hold the patent on killin deer?

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply [ QUOTE ] 1. How are crossbows dealt with where you live? Are they treated just like all other bows? do they have their own season? etc. Legal for everyone during all seasons 2. Do you support letting all hunters with an archer license hunt with a crossbow? or just disabled people? yup, dosnt matter what you use, there range is still limited. I think it allows kids who cant draw 40 pounds to hit the woods early 3. If crossbows were allowed for all people with archery license would you take a crossbow rather than a recurve or compound? Nope..i could if i wanted to, but i enjoy the challenges of the compound too much. [/ QUOTE ] Ditto! I like the crossbow as a management tool. Far better hunters than snipers. If not for the crossbow I would not have been able to take my sons deer hunting before they could pull back a legal poundage bow. Crossbows give some people confidence to enter the woods and that can only be a good thing. I dislike the fact that they are called bows and I think that is where a lot of the controversy stems from. They are neither a bow or a firearm, but a hybrid. Guys around here will tell you they got one with a bow then when you ask them questions that prove you actually know what you're talking about they admit to a crossbow. Scraping the bottom of the barrel we find the ones that shoot them with a crossbow then check them in with their compound. Who would know? Their loss not mine, I just hunt my own hunt. They don't really bother me. I don't see the woods around here fill up with crossbow hunters like during gun season. I do seem to find a bolt or two every year though.

Re: what do yall prefer Well, that clears that up then.
-
Re: what do yall prefer [ QUOTE ] I like still-hunting, spot and stalk, or sit and wait, whether it be a ground-blind or a tree-stand. I dislike road hunting [/ QUOTE ] Ditto. I swore off drives years ago. I will push for my sons though. Last year I pushed a nice 9pt to my oldest son. I prefer the solitude of bowhunting. [ QUOTE ] drive around up top of a stand on your truck [/ QUOTE ] Is that how your Dad does it?
