  1. I've got one on a muzzle loader that came as part of the package deal. I'd compare it to a mid range Bushnell or Simmons. Plenty good enough for muzzle loader distances and accuracy, but I wouldn't want it on long range varmint gun.
  2. Maybe you need to move your stand away from the bedding area? I don't know of any good way to walk through a bedding area without disturbing the deer.
  3. Wow, I know how big a decision a career change can be. Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.
  4. 1. I can write or eat with either hand 2. My great great uncle was Judge Roy Bean 3. I've been to 11 foreign countries 4. My grandfather was a Marine in WWI 5. My father was Army Infantry in WWII and was wounded at Normandy 6. I killed my first deer in 1969 7. My first car was a 1967 Chevelle SS 8. I once hit a barbed wire fence on a dirt bike and hung there off the ground for two hours until someone came along and got me down 9. I took a 90 mile canoe trip down the Rio Grande - carried everything with me and it took a week 10. I've been shot - twice
  5. Holy smokes, it's 350 miles from the Oklahoma line to Katy.
  6. Just remember, Ranch Hand is your friend. http://www.ranchhand.com/frontbumperstandard.aspx
  7. Sweet! You guts are starting to give me the fever. Guess I'm going to have to break down and kill something.
  8. Beautiful animals William. Thanks for sharing. Some day...

  10. Nicely done! I hunted all weekend. Saw about a dozen does and a couple of small bucks (4 and 6 points). Stuck another hog. Those dang things are everywhere. At least I got a passthru on this one, so I didn't lose another arrow. I'll probably hunt locally at least one afternoon this week, and then head out west for the weekend if I can get someone to go with me.
  11. Not too meritorious were you? The question is - Was it your supervisor who set that rate, or did it come from higher up? If it was your supervisor, you might be able to get more next time by finding out what he/she expects and then working towards those expectations. If it came from higher up, well....good luck.
  12. Yep, I work at a hospital too. I don't do direct patient care, but I still get exposed to every disease known to man. I know you've heard it a jillion times, but frequent and thorough hand washing is your best defense. And from what I've read, hand washing is more effective than the alcohol gel type cleaners.
  13. Hunted at new spot last night. Didn't see any deer, but I did shoot a hog with my bow. As usual, I'm now down one broken arrow. Not sure about my next trip - I'll probably either go this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Tentatively planning to head out to West Texas for the weekend.
  14. I have better luck with real antlers (the bigger the better), but the bag will work and it's much more portable. I've also found that I need to replace my rattling antlers every 7 or 8 years. The older ones get dry and sort of clunky sounding. They just don't have that nice crisp click that live bucks have when they lock up.
  15. I've been fishing Falcon for the past 25 years, both on the U.S. side and in Mexico, without incident. With that being said, I will probably restrict my fishing to the U.S. side until further notice. I also find it very strange that these two people were 5 or 6 miles deep into Mexico on jet skis. You seldom see any jet skis on that lake, and you NEVER see them cross into Mexico. There may be more to this story than what's been reported. BTW - It's not illegal to cross the border into Mexico on Falcon (or Amistad) as long as you stay in your boat and don't step onto dry land. But you are required to have a Mexican fishing license. You can also re-enter the U.S. from Mexican waters without a passport.
  16. I hunted Saturday and Sunday. Saw 3 or 4 bucks, nothing big. Also saw a half dozen or so does, but I don't usually shoot any does until later in the season. Planning to hunt again tomorrow afternoon.
  17. Ask Euell Gibbons how they taste. Oh wait, he's been dead for 35 years. Nevermind. BTW - 10 points extra credit to the first person that can tell me what I'm talking about.
  18. Archery season opens here on Saturday. The weather, for a change, looks fairly decent. Lows around 50 and highs in the mid 70's. As long as the weather looks promising, I'll probably hunt somewhere every day.
  19. Very true. I had to dispose of some drives that at one time contained people's health records. A very large industrial strength magnet first, followed by a cordless drill with a 3/8 inch bit before they went into the trash crusher. The other option if you want to reuse the drive is a low level format. It will go out and actually overwrite everything on the drive with a specific data pattern (all 1's for example, or alternating 1's and 0's).
  20. I think he's talking about trying to leave the stand after legal hunting hours end. At least that's what I was talking about. Of course I'd never want to run any deer off while I was still hunting!
  21. I always have a varmint call with me (for the coyotes and bobcats, not the deer) and I'll pull that out and start blowing on it. It usually takes a little bit, the deer don't just take off running at the first sound, but they'll eventually leave.
  22. Good job! And welcome aboard. Did you get pics to enter it in the contest?
  23. Yes, but I tend to use something bigger than a .22. It's never a pleasant experience, especially with hunting dogs that are familiar with firearms. A lot of them will flinch if you point a gun at them, so it's obvious they know what's about to happen.
