  1. For all of you shooting digital trailcams, and for those of you in the market for buying a new commercial cam, how important is the quantity of mega pixels in your decision? The megapixel race for handheld cameras was extremely hot over the last couple of years (seems to have slowed down since hitting the 8MP mark). Is it the same for trail cams? Will you be choosing your next cam based on how many pixels it shoots? Is that as important as trigger time, flash range, and battery life? What are the new trail cams on the market shooting at now?

    Reds

Re: Reds I've always wondered what stategy is used for fresh water.. I guess its like any other fresh water fish (structure, food).. In saltwater, they love tide movement. When the tide is draining (or filling) a shallow marsh, those reds will school up really thick and tear up shrimp, crab, and mullet that are trapped or disoriented by the moving water. Its fun..especially when you can see them tailing along a grassline or reef. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

    Reds

Re: Reds Congrats on the redfish! Ive heard of fresh water reds before, but I have only caught them on the coast. Can they reproduce in fresh water? Or do they have to be stocked? I thought that they had to be stocked, but not sure Regardless, redfish are awesome! Very pretty fish too, with the big spot on their tail. Great fish to catch, they put up a good fight, and they taste awesome! (but running a filet knife through those rib bones is a chore!) Here is a big saltwater bull red. Too big to keep (39 inches) He put a hurt'n on a 12 inch mullet. Took about 25 minutes to catch on trout tackle (12 lb test, 20lb leader)
  4. Re: Putting in an above ground..... I have an inground pool, and it is not hard to change your lifestyle in order to utilize it. Its fun, especially when you have friends over. (watch out though, you might find some friends already in it when you get home!) I just converted mine to a saline system, and it is sooo much nicer than the old chlorine tablet system. No more scooping chlorine, no more bleached swimwear, no more red eyes, and the water quality is much nicer (softened water). Plus you dont have to buy and store chlorine anymore. (saves money in the end) Honestly pools get a bad rap for maintence. I know sometimes they are a pain, but mine literally is 30 minutes of upkeep on the weekend during the summer. I dump out the leaf baskets, check the chemical levels, adjust if necessary. Also, a big key is not having plants and trees that loose leaves or dump trash in the pool. I overhauled my landscaping to use vegetation that does not loose its leaves. Here are a few pics.
  5. Re: mother nature\'s artwork *pics* Excellent! That has been on my todo list for a long time. (dont see them here in Texas.. need to make a trip up north) How long was your exposure for those?
  6. Re: just bought a new dSLR and trying it out congrats on the new cam Justin. I'm looking forward to seeing your work with it.
  7. Re: LOTS of venison recipes!!! good link, it looks like I might run out of venison a little faster now
  8. Re: Photos from my Exotic hunt, I saw Mucho Rios! [ QUOTE ] WOW, great Pic's. Did you all see the spur on the bird in the 3rd pic??? Where in Tx were you hunting??? [/ QUOTE ] I was hunting in the Texas hill country, west of Kerrville, close to Rocksprings.
  9. Re: Photos from my Exotic hunt, I saw Mucho Rios! here are a few more pics mature axis doe yearling axis doe mocking bird
  10. Re: Photos from my Exotic hunt, I saw Mucho Rios! Thanks for the compliments. They were fun to shoot. Photography is just a hobby. I do make some spare change with it, but it could never pay as good as my profession. But I'd love to do it as a full time gig if it would pay the bills. The camera body that I use is a Canon 20d. For the the turkey photos, I used a Canon 400mm f/2.8L prime lens. For the windmill photos, I used a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L zoom lens.
  11. Re: Photos from my Exotic hunt, I saw Mucho Rios! I didnt shoot a buck (but saw many..they are beautiful!) It was just a doe/meat hunt.
  12. I just got back from a Texas exotic hunt. It was pretty cool. I tagged an axis on the first hunt, and then sat behind the lens the next 2 days! This is the Sat afternoon, down by a windmill and water trough. The next morning we saw black buck and wildebeast.
  13. Re: More on Jimmy Houston I particulary found this quote entertaining form his website [ QUOTE ] Since 1976 Jimmy has been entertaining and educating people that love the outdoors. He is best known for his blond hair and and trademark laugh. And while he is catching largemouth in native Oklahoma, peacocks in South America or maybe just trying to outsmart the elusive whitetail, Jimmy strives to make you feel like you're sitting with him in his boat or treestand. [/ QUOTE ] LOL, yeah right Jimmy. You didnt outsmart nobody, you just lost 20K and a career!
  14. Re: More on Jimmy Houston Thanks for the links Tominator
  15. Re: Another \"Bone-headed\" IL. Attempt to control Deer [ QUOTE ] why don't they just issue the bucks condoms, like they do to our grade school children? works fine for our kids, doesn't it [/ QUOTE ] hmm not sure they are gonna figure out the raincoat. actually, the problem needs to be addressed when a developer comes in and clears 400 acres of habitat in order to build a housing community or shopping center. They just displaced significant numbers of deer and other animals into the surrounding urban areas.
  16. Re: Another \"Bone-headed\" IL. Attempt to control Deer Wildlife biologists tried a similar project in my community. Deer are overpopulated (.1/acre) in the Houston suburb that I live in. Shooting them is not a responsible option here. Females that have been administerd with birth control, have a radio collar on them. Its a problem with no easy solution.
  17. Re: Photo Contest, Poll 2 I like the first set. I think the prizes are a little better this year?? Best of luck in the contest
  18. Re: SHOT Show roll call, who\'s goin? yes pop you are correct. It's not the type of show where you show up and buy a ticket. You must be in the industry in order to get the invite.
  19. Any of you going to SHOT next month? If so post up or send me a PM, maybe we can hook up, shake hands, or visit some of the vendors together.
  20. Re: Favorite type of fish to eat? I love seafood. I mainly have access to saltwater fish, my favorite would be speckled trout, redfish, and flounder. Of course those dishes are complimented with gulf shrimp and/or oysters. 2 trout and a red in the pic Its funny how diverse the outdoor world is, because I have never tasted some of the northern fish species.. We have stocked rainbows in the rivers here, and I have caught them in Utah rivers before though. But Walleye, Muskie, Pike, Salmon, etc... I have only heard about them or seen them on TV. I'm keeping that on the mental todo list for one of these days.
  21. Re: Sunrise Photos Thanks for the comments, photos #1 and #3 were photographed with my canon 20D dSLR camera and 24-70mm lens. photo #2 was photographed with my 5 year old Sony f707. The really blue photo was a achieved with a long exposure (8 secs), taken an hour before the sunrise.
  22. I took these during the last few months. All were taken in various places along the Texas coast.
