  1. Re: Most talented driver? It's hard to argue against Tony's resume of championships. Mark Martin should be up there too with all of his success in IROC where the cars are equal.
  2. Re: FOX SPORTS AMEN to that. Just another example that NASCAR is now more about the big bucks than the fans. Sooner or later they will realize that NASCAR fans aren't like NFL, NBA, MLB or any other pro sport fan. We tune in to see the action not a bunch of commercials and NASCAR doesn't offer TV timeouts (although I'm getting suspicious at all the debris cautions )
  3. Re: Tony Stewart lol at 43rd....Seriously both the 24 and the 8 did a great job and congrats to Tony. I am a little upset that the broadcasters kept talking about Jeff's HUGE comeback from 26th and the didn't relly mention that Jr came back from 42nd.
  4. Re: what\'s your favorite food plot choice. I stay away from the big companies like Biologic and Imperial. I just go to my local farm store and buy beans, turnips, etc. I can make my own mixes for a fraction of the cost. I really like beans though. The deer in my area absolutley go nuts for them.
  5. Re: Salt licks Deffinately not a fan of plain salt. I do use trace mineral salt to get a lick started and then swtich to a product called Hi-Mag. Trace mineral is 98% salt and 2% trace minerals. Hi-Mag is 50% salt, 25% magnesium, and 25% calcium. Once the lick is established using trace the Hi-Mag really gives more of what they need.
  6. Re: Pennsylvania Game Comission Might have something to do with the fact that PGC is being sued by a group of sportsmen claiming improper management of the deer herd. Also, the couple of prices that I have heard mentioned are very close to the same for a resident license here.
  7. Re: Antler restrictions in place in NY\'s 3H and 3K I've been reading this thread and I have to say there are some excellent points in here on both sides. However, being from the south I can't speak for the herd in NY but I do want to share an opinion too. Like someone from Tennessee was saying our managment system down here is a "kill 'em all" system driven by insurance companies so we have issues too. I'm not a fan of AR's for QDM and here is why. They are not as great as they seem. They do not protect younger bucks per sey they only protect bucks with less points. This allows young bucks with extremely good genetics to be harvested while protecting an inferior genetic buck to do the breeding. In short they are a great big bucket of chlorine in the gene pool and they get the good genes out in the long term. The single buck limit and moving the gun season out of the rut were two of the best ideas I've heard. AR's will work but need to be revisited and very closely scrutinzed after three years. By then the age structure should have caught up to where the single buck limit would take over.
  8. OK I'm going to change gears and steal an idea from another thread. What are NASCAR's worst tracks or worst scheduling changes that they have made to chase the big money. Here is my list: Worst track-California, it still can't sell out and the racing stinks. Shedule changes-Taking Southern 500 from Darlington giving it California and making it a NIGHT race. I love seeing a race end at 2 AM here in the east. Closing Rockingham, who knows where those dates went. Closing North Wilkesboro to give Texas a date and New Hampshire a SECOND date. I'm tired of seeing the sport turn its back on who made it what it is today in order to chase the big money markets. Phooey on the car of tomorrow and using that as the device to slow them down. Put them back on the older shorter tracks, where they can't go as fast, and let the best DRIVER win.
  9. Re: Nascar Tracks??? Bristol, Talladega, and add another vote for "The Rock"
  10. Re: NASCAR Hall of Fame (your picks) I know that the emotions of picking the inaugural class to thehall will be tremendous. Plus, keep in mind the huge honor to be part of this group would be. The group should be small maybe not 2 but probably no more than 5. With that being said here are my picks for the first group. Bill France Sr. Junior Johnson Lee Petty Coo Coo Marlin Fireball Roberts There will be plenty of time to get Dale Sr, Richard, DW, all the Allison's, Neil Bonnet and so many others. I still bleed black and silver and would love to see Dale Sr. in but the inaugural group needs to be the leaders that brought this sport to existance. WAY before Richard Petty, David Pearson, and the others.
  11. Re: How many Deer have you taken?? Somewhere in the 55 to 60 neighborhood. I think the last time I really sat down and counted it up was 58 and I haven't taken but 1 since then I think.
  12. Re: Sunday\'s Nextel Race Can't complain too much. Typical flat track racing but it was an exciting finish. I just hate the 8 pulled the bonehead mistake of entering pit road to fast. They were sitting for a top 15 finish until the penalty. Shucks for Jr. 15th at Vegas was as good as a win. Look for the 8 to be strong at Hotlanta.
  13. Re: Treestand Heights? Depends on my situation and what available cover I have. I've hunted as low as 12 and as high as 35 feet. I like the 20 ft range but I'll do what needs to be done.
  14. Re: Iowa Deer Rack Stolen!!! It's a shame that someone can't take a trophy now and not have to worry about it getting stolen. Man, some people make me sick.
  15. Re: Who still drags their own deer Drag 'em or quarter and carry 'em. I have some areas that I hunt that it would take hours to drag one out so I'll just quarter it and carry it out in a pack. But either way I'm still hands on and doing the work to get it out.
  16. Re: Good Meat -vs-Little horns Most hunters go through different levels of hunter "maturity" as they progress. There was a great article on that in Deer & Deer Hunting a few months back. Everyone is different and at different levels in their hunting career. I've gone through all levels and I'm now at the level where I'm more about the hunt than the harvest. In the question that has been asked I would take a doe every time and hold out for a mature buck now. However, there was a time if it was legal it went down and that was fine too. But now I'd rather have a good fat doe and let my little bucks walk.
  17. Re: This is pretty wild...(Pic) WOW....that was a bad day. Awesome photo though.
  18. Re: NRA Sues Mayor Ray Nagin I'm glad to hear this. Nagin is an idiot anyway. He is to busy trying to point fingers at the feds instead of standing up and saying that he screwed up too. I don't think he'll be mayor after the next election.
  19. Re: Kurt Busch\'s ears? [ QUOTE ] His ears aren't the problem, it's the void in between them. But, wouldn't such a big empty space actually create a vaccuum, and draw his ears closer to his HOLLOW SKULL??????? [/ QUOTE ] That about sums it up...lol
  20. Re: NASCAR does it again [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Yep this is getting out of hand. Here is my idea that would fix the whole thing. You have a rule book...if you break a rule in that book qualifying you are parked, sit out the race, end of story. Break a rule in the race, loose the finishing spot and EVERYTHING that goes with it....points, money etc. I guarantee you that the GREY AREA would suddenly become a whole lot more black and white to these crew chiefs that push the envelope. [/ QUOTE ] Under this scenario Nascar would be out of business in about 5 weeks! [/ QUOTE ] I don't know. The fans may put more respect in an organization that actually enforces it's rules with some teeth. Plus, after about two teams sat out a week I bet that grey area would get real black and white
  21. Re: How\'d your driver do in the 500? Well the 8 finished 8th and is 6th in the points so overall not too bad. He would have finished better had he not pulled out by himself with 20 to go but I'm pretty happy.
  22. Re: Shane Hmiel suspended from NASCAR for life I think MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA need to take a lesson from NASCAR. Plus I'm glad to see that NASCAR is serious about at least one of thier rules.
  23. Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Got ya, I've been applyijng for points since 2001 and not buying licenses. I really didn't pay attention but my CC# was changed to a different CID# when I finished my house and moved last time. On another note, I read somewhere back in the thread that this was an unlimited unit and to shoot the first bull seen. Area 55 has the 4 point restriction on does it not?
  24. Re: info about lime Powdered lime works faster than pellet lime but either one is a slow worker. The earlier you put it out the more effective it will be. However, you can put it out at planting but just work it in good.
  25. Re: mixing it up Just do like we do and make it two different plantings. Beans or peas in the spring and maybe a mix of Buck oats and brassicas for the fall
