  1. All the time practicing... ...to hanging stands... ...to finally making everything fall into place... ...and enjoying the rewards of the harvest... ...is so worth it. I grilled my first steaks and had cornbread, potatoes, green beans, carrots, & mac-n-cheese. WOW, good and tender and REALLY hit the spot.
  2. Like to play...never that good though. I am also amazed by people who play 3 or 4 moves ahead.
  3. Good doe! Glad to see you connected. WTG!!
  4. Hope everyone is recovering...good luck with that and prayers are being sent. Hang in there through this. Your family needs you, man.
  5. Good deal! Glad to hear, post some more pics when you get it.
  6. Added to the contest entry form...here's a few pics:
  7. Rem308 Team 9 (Team Tagged Out) Doe Date of Harvest: 09/18/2009 (WV's Early Season Antlerless Archery Hunt)
  8. I took this doe on the evening of 9/18/09 as part of WV's Early Season Antlerless Hunt. 20 yard shot with my PSE Firestorm X, 100 gr Muzzy MX3 did the trick, doe expired in sight of my tree.
  9. Yes, I decided that I am going to just fork out the dough and get one. I hear they're on sale quite a bit right now. You know me, learn everything the hard way!
  10. I learned from my dad...we always have soaked in iced salt water for a while before packaging...when we pour off the water before packaging there's always quite a bit of blood and (sometimes) hair if any was on the meat. A few years ago I was rushed due to a snowstorm and didn't get to soak as long as normal before packaging the doe. The meat was strong and from then on I blamed the 'wild taste' on difference of preparation. One of those things...could easily be 'all in my head' but works for me.
  11. This is the first year that WV has offered an 'Early Season Doe-Only Archery Hunt' and I sure hope they keep it for seasons to come. As I hiked to my stand I was already ringing wet with sweat...no way around that. But, there was no wind, so I stayed positive and hoped I may still see some deer feeding to the field I was beside. I was setup in a hardwoods area, where a hill meets an overgrown hayfield. I sat there for a half hour and still had sweat rolling off me, mosquitoes were eating me up...I won't say I was miserable, because I could never be miserable in the woods, but I was really looking forward to fall temperatures! Around 6:00 PM, I caught a glimpse of a deer walking through the woods coming towards me, but there was a thicket in between us. I watched with my binoculars and could see a doe walking into the thicket, but I lost her inside. After about 20 minutes, I caught here again coming out the other side, probably 60 yards from me. I began had my bow ready, clipped in my release, but was still sitting. She got behind a few trees and as I stood she sensed something and stopped in alert. After a few minutes she cautiously walked on and I could see she was at 40 yards and closing. At 30 yards I drew and she continued walking around a trail and I was just waiting for a shot. She slowed down a little and offered a great broadside shot, which I took. The arrow smacked into her and realy made a LOUD pop. I could see it was a good hit and she took 3 quick bounds and I could see blood spewing of both sides. As she ran across the trail towards the field I could even hear the blood hitting the leaves. After about 40 yards of running she slowed and tipped over. I watched her with my binoculars and she was down for the count. My race versus the clock started now...as it was hot and I didn't want to take a chance at the meat spoiling. I hustled to drag the deer back to the truck. I didn't field dress until I was near the truck to help. I took a few quick pictures with my cell phone, but got better pictures after the dragging was done. I checked her in, skinned her out, and began soaking the meat in iced salt water. So, my Early Season Doe Hunt was a success, I'm glad to have some venison for the freezer!
  12. Hey team, I've drawn first blood this season...I smoked a big doe as part of WV's Early Archery Doe Only Hunt...I'll post the pics and information tomorrow.
  13. Thanks everyone, I was so pumped and when I got good signal, I had to share. I knew I had to hurry because as warm as it is, you're on a race against the clock after getting one. I will post the full story tomorrow, but here's a pic for now...story & more pics to come tomorrow.
  14. I will give the full details and pictures later...I smoked a big doe this evening and have made the recovery...healthy and mature doe in WV's Early Season Doe-Only Archery hunt...More later when I get home to get better photos...took field shots with my camera phone.
  15. This one is a good one...I have the same model and it's a dandy. He's right...it's rugged and will last. Plus, this one takes a 9v battery, always easy to find (some rangefinders take odd batteries).
  16. Looks GREAT...just need to get it shooting that way! Good work there Charlie.
  17. I'll comment on both...I wonder if the Turkeys are so gutsy because they've seen me shoot and know they wouldn't be in real danger! And about that hat, sure is. They squeaked out a win Monday night, but we'll take it!!
  18. cute dog...hadn't seen a 'blue' one before
  19. Easiest answer...remember that you're staying in a hotel/motel/inn/cottage, etc....you're traveling. Don't trust anyone. Be polite, be respectful of others & there educations. (education level doesn't have any direct correlation to intelligence) No matter where I am, I remember I'm not in my home, so anything important gets packed up and goes with me. It's not always convenient, but that's life lived out of a suitcase.
  20. Good luck, I will be hunting this evening after work. I look forward to it..it's gonna be warm, but I still will be there. I've waited this long to get an early season bowhunt, no sense in skipping it! Hope you bust a good doe.
  21. Thanks Tom, then I'd say $250.00 TYD.

    Dear Mr. Cameraman

I know what you're talking about and my wife and I were cracking up...the sound was great...right when the guy was shouting and getting ready to bow you see it coming....and ....WHAMO! He knocked the cameraman down! Funny stuff.
  23. This morning me and a friend went to the range, shot a variety of guns. My primary objective was to get my inline muzzle loader sighted in, which went well and is now dialed in at 100 yards. Me shooting my CVA My friend giving it a go My friend brought his SKS, which I hadn't seen yet...it had a tactical stock and was a LOT of fun to shoot. This one was comfortable and shot very well. After about an hour of shooting (I was still sighting in my ML) 4 long beards pitched down into the field from the hill behind. They fed around and we took a few photos, then I eventually had to walk out to move targets and they moved on back to the woodline.
