  1. Good squacks Slash...Got 2 more for Team 4...a little gruesome photos, headshots with the 10/22 (hollow points) will do that. (2 greys w/ the 10/22) (The 2 pics above are of the first grey, I'd call that 10" tail) (And the 2nd grey, an 11" tail) Come on folks, Slash and I need some company!

    Ohio doe

Way to go! Looks to be a good sized doe too...table fare!
  3. I stopped in at a friends house tonight after work and squirrel hunted...he let me borrow his Ruger 10-22 and he carried a 12 gauge shotgun. It ended up being a great evening and I took 3. The first barked and I answered back with my squirrel call and then he showed himself in the fork of a tall tree. The next was a BIG fox squirrel and it came running over the hill towards me. And last was a medium sized grey squirrel that was crossing a log. I didn't make the best shot on him, but the top 2 were head/neck shots. Safe to say my buddy has his 10-22 dialed in and now I'm really wanting one! Here's several photos from the hunt:
  4. Squirrel Hunt Tonight, after work, I hurried to my buddy's house and we went squirrel hunting on his property. He had me borrow his 10-22 and he carried a shotgun. I ended up getting 3 squirrels including one BIG fox squirrel with the rifle. These go to Team 4 (The 2 pics above are of the big fox squirrel, I'll call it a 12.5" tail) (The 2 pics above are of the little grey squirrel, a 10" tail) (And the 1 pic above is of the bigger grey squirrel, an 11" tail)
  5. Well, tonight was great...I stopped in and hunted with a friend of mine. Squirrels were moving and the first one barked at us so I answered w/ my little squirrel call. It wasn't long and I spotted his head in the 'V' of a tree. I had a good rest and squeezed the trigger on the Ruger 10-22 and made a good headshot. A short while later I took the largest fox squirrel I've ever taken, and then got a 3rd grey before dark.
  6. I'm going out after work tonight...cannot wait. Should be a good evening, but I'm taking the .22 rifle so I hope my aim is true!
  7. Hope you're dragging him now...hit sounds good. I have had a few deer that shot and the arrow lodged in the opposite shoulder and broke off, it seemed to help keep the wound open and blood pour out rather than seal back up by fat.
  8. Well done! Let me tell you the same thing someone on this forum posted when I got my first with a bow...they said (and it has proven true) that they will come much easier now. Great job and good report!
  9. Yep, as they said above me...great shot. Not an easy task!
  10. '05 Toyota Corolla LE here and it suits my needs just fine. I commute about 70 miles round trip daily and it averages 38 MPG. It's all interstate and is a comfortable ride too. Sure it's a small car but it has a pretty nice interior and several bells & whistles to give me a comfortable commute. I believe Honda makes a great automobile too but I happened to find a good price on this Toyota used with 30,000 miles. I would highly recommend the Corolla based on your criteria.
  11. Good reports fellas, keep 'em coming. WV's early seasons are completed so now I'm waiting till Oct 16th for our archery opener.
  12. Great entries so far. Here is my entry: User: Rem308 Team: Team 12 -- 'Da Winners' Doe w/ Muzzleloader WV Early Season Antlerless Only Muzzleloader Season Taken: 9/25/2010 7:30 AM Monroe Co., WV (Pardon the Scope Creep!)
  13. I started my Saturday morning early and out in the fog. I had plans of hitting a few back roads in each of WV, OH, & KY, but first I had to run a few errands. So, I geared up and headed out on my Yamaha WR250R. My first part of the trip was too much city and not enough country, but I did get some errands taken care of and managed to stop a few times in town for a picture here or there. I need a better riding jacket...this early, foggy morning had me cool. (A college town is quiet EARLY on a Saturday morning) (More Errands) Now that those are done, I got to head out of town and started with running to Kentucky and enjoying the ride. It didn't take long and the sun was out and I got to find some backroads. Fall is in the air and I really had a great time out and about. (I wanted to get a pic of some pretty rolling hills but didn't stop at a few perfect spots...just kind of rode at my own pace.) I then crossed the Ohio River over into Ohio and enjoyed a little riding here. Had to stop and fill up on fuel and saw a few other bikes out enjoying the perfect day. After a little riding, I went back into WV and headed towards one of the State Parks. (I love country roads) And then I headed back to the house. Just over 200 miles on this day trip, and it really reminded again of how much I love this bike.
  14. Yep, there is a lot of food in the woods for the deer this year, they don't seem to be hitting the fields at all unless just passing through to another wooded section. I hunt up high on a hill so the drag was straight down to bottom. I then left her at a creekbed and hustled back to my truck where I unloaded my quad. This made for a much easier and faster haul back to the truck.
  15. Well, I wanted to post and let you know, I lucked up and took a real good doe with my inline yesterday. I posted the full story in the Deer Hunting page, but it was my first deer with a muzzleloader. http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1229501#post1229501 The shot was a broadside, 70 yard shot and took out both lungs. The deer dropped in her tracks. Remington Genesis Inline .50 cal 240 Gr Sabot
  16. Hey team, I'm just checking in. I just got the PM and it looks like I'm late to the party, but I'm glad to be selected and added to the team. I don't know what I had done, but somehow I had failed to sign up for this contest in time and had to be an alternate. I did make the 'Small Game' contest though, go figure. Anyway, hope everyone is doing well and let's all hope for a safe and productive hunt. I got out for a little of WV's Early Season Antlerless Muzzleloader hunt that concluded yesterday. I lucked up and dropped a doe with my inline...but in the process also managed to do some damage to my head! LOL embarrassing and plenty of fodder for my buddies to rib me about. I posted the full story in the Deer Hunting forum.
  17. This year was the 2nd year that WV had offered an Early Season Antlerless Muzzleloader hunt for select counties. This was one week of hunting, which ended on Saturday, Sept 25th. I had talked to my wife before about having her join me for a hunt but we had never made it happen until this season. My wife and I took Friday off and hunted a little that morning, but the temperatures just got too warm too quick, so we decided we'd come back for an evening hunt. That evening we didn't see any deer either, with the warm temperatures and plenty of food in the woods for them, the deer just seemed to be avoiding the fields. We did get to see plenty of turkeys and had some pretty comical events, such as an old grey tom cat sneaking in on our evening setup. He spooked my wife pretty good and she said for a few minutes she was thinking Bobcat! Well that hunt ended with no deer, but we really had a good time and I was definitely glad of that. Saturday called for rain and cooler temps, but my wife said she would sleep in, so I went solo. I opted to hunt a deep woods stand and maybe catch the deer passing through. I was in the stand before daylight and was enjoying watching it get daylight when I could start hearing deer coming my way. 4 does ended up walking up the hill past my stand and at about 70 yards I knew I had to find a shooting lane through the trees and brush. I couldn't get a lane on the first, but the second stopped in a good window to shoot through. In order to get the crosshairs on her shoulder, I had to lean forward and down in my stand and it was not a comfortable position at all, but it was steady. I squeezed the trigger and BOOM, the cannon went off. As soon as it went off, I knew what I had done...I had busted my head with the scope and could feel the blood starting to drip down my nose. As the smoke was clearing, I couldn't see anything of the deer so I sat for a few minutes and start getting my gear together. I climbed down, walked over to where my doe was, and she had dropped. She is a real healthy doe, a good sized one, and the bullet had not exited, but instead was just under the hide on the opposite shoulder. (If you look at the shoulder above, you can see the bullet laying under the skin on the opposite shoulder.) So I took a few pictures before dragging her out, but the race against the temperatures began, because I knew I needed to get this doe checked in and on ice! Fortunately, everything worked out very well, and I had my four wheeler waiting on me at the bottom of the hill, so I was able to take care of it all. I skinned and began soaking the deer on salted ice-water. This is my first deer with a muzzleloader and I definitely will not forget this anytime soon.
  18. Yes, she ended up being a real good doe. Plenty of good tender meat to go in the freezer.
  19. This weekend I got to hunt in the WV Early Season Muzzleloader Antlerless Only hunt (select counties) and my wife joined me for the first time. We really had a few great hunts but just couldn't get on the deer. Well this morning I hunted deep woods and was fortunate enough to take a good size doe shortly after daylight. There is a lot more to the story, which I will post tomorrow, but I wanted to share this picture that will say it all: Yep, you guessed it. Needless to say there was a lot of blood on that hillside this morning. Full details and pics tomorrow.
  20. Alright, clothes are all cleaned and now in the scent bags...gear is packed and ready...even my wife has been through a 'trial fitting' of all the gear that I'll have her wearing and carrying. Pretty funny to see her suited up. I have to carry a lot more snacks and items to keep her comfortable and content than on a normal hunt, but I'm still so pumped. I can guarantee I've never been so amped up for a doe hunt!
  21. Well team, I hope we can get some good numbers. There is a really good acorn here this year, so there should be plenty of good hunting. I will probably try to go a few times in early season, but I normally wait until after bow season to hunt hard.
  22. Sounds good. I'm shooting a Remington Genesis with 100 grains of Pyroxex and also the 250 gr Shockwave. Now mine isn't shooting as tight as yours must be, but it's still a good pattern at 100 yards, and I'm comfortable taking taking that shot on a deer in the right conditions. Good luck to you, hope all goes well with your hunt.
  23. WV is offering an early season antlerless only muzzleloader hunt in select counties for one week. This comes in a week from today and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm so pumped because this year my wife is going to join me for a few hunts when the conditions are right. I am can't wait and we'll be sure to take the camera along to try to catch all the memories.
