  1. Re: Inexpensive shotgun scope? What kind of mounts do you guys use?Something like a B-Square or did you have them drilled and tapped for scope mounts?
  2. Re: Happy B-day Tominator! [ QUOTE ] Since I will be HUNTING tomorrow............I'll go ahead and tell you HAPPY BIRTHDAY today too!!!!!!!! [/ QUOTE ] Me too!I'll be gone for the weekend!Happy B-Day Tominator!Hope you have a good one!
  3. Re: Illinois - Pike County Pike county is a great place to hunt any time during the season.Lotsa monsters running around there. It's hard to say what the second shotgun season will be like.I think most of the does will have been bred, but there will still be a some does that were not bred coming into estrous.
  4. Re: IL Shotgun question?? I'll bet there's bigger deer than that running around.I wouldn't worry too much about it.Within a day or two things should settle back down and that stand can still produce another nice buck.Good luck, hope your dad gets a whopper.
  5. Re: what 4wheeler do you own? 2003 Bombardier Quest 650.It gets the job done and takes a pretty good beating.
  6. Re: Dogs, who has them and what kind..... I've got a beagle too.He loves to chase the bunnies, but since I deer hunt so much I only get him out a couple times a year.Talk about a hard headed dog.I have a two year old daughter that loves him to death and he is great with her.
  7. Re: Wset Central IL gun season The only bucks I've seen chasing does have been little 1 1/2 olds.I've seen a few big bucks, but they would just walk the trails and maybee tend a licking branch.Scrapes are dried up,which tells me the bucks are probably with does, but the rut seems pretty weak so far.The weather has been terrible-too warm and too windy.I have not had a single buck respond to grunts, bleats,or rattling all year, which is very unusual.Looks like the weather is changing just in time for shotgun season,so hopefully they'll be on the move.

    IL Gun Season

Re: IL Gun Season I'm all packed and ready to head to deer camp.Leaving Thursday night and staying all weekend.Hopefully my little honey hole spot will be hot again this year.I've been staying away from it as much as possible all year so it should be a surprise attack. Can't wait to get out there!
  9. Re: Scentlok or no scentlok??? I have a hard time spending the kind of money that these things are going for on more clothes.I do all the scent control I can with soaps, detergents, sprays, and a little cover scent. It seems to work good enough for me.I always stay downwind of the deer trails I am hunting, but have had deer downwind of me and not been busted. They probably do work, but I wouldn't say they are a nessecity.
  10. Re: My \'05 Illinois bow buck Congrats on an awesome buck and a great hunt! He's got a beautiful rack.I know what you mean about the wind, seems like it's been blowing 25-35 mph for a week straight.
  11. Re: Age to start hunting. I got my first shotgun when I was 12.It was a .410 that I used for rabbits and squirrels.I don't think Illinois has an age limit, but I believe they have to be hunting with an adult if they are under 16 which is not a big deal.
  12. Re: In Shock.....Workplace demolished by tornado Holy mackeral!Glad nobody was hurt bad. That's a scary deal and very easily could have been a lot worse.

    Melanistic Deer

Re: Melanistic Deer Congrats! That's a great trophy and a well told story.
  14. Re: Winchester Super X-2 I don't have one,but a few of my buddies do and I have shot them.I like them alot.If I was in the market for a new shotgun I would give them a look. They seem dependable and are a pretty light gun.Not sure what they normally go for.
  15. Re: 2005 drop tine buck (pics) Man,that's another great Illinois buck!Glad you guys found him.Sounds like a great day of hunting.
  16. Re: Dead Monster blacktail Man,that's a bummer.Looks like he would have made an awesome blacktail trophy.
  17. Re: My gun buck! Congrats!That's a great looking buck!Not sure what he'll score.Maybee 140's?
  18. Re: treestand or ground I almost always hunt from a tree.I think you can get away with a little more, and the deer seem more unaware when hunting from a treestand.
  19. Re: what do u guys think are the best tree stands My Summit is the best stand I have ever used. I have a few buddies that have Lone Wolves and swear by them.
  20. Re: ILLINOIS PICS AND STORY Those are both awesome bucks!Sounds like a great trip.I'm sure you'll all remember that trip for a long time.
  21. Re: Phoenix Race Results Congrats VTbowhunter! I hope Stewart can keep it up for one more race! Chrud is sittin back in second waiting to make his move.
  22. Re: TEAM 7 Way to go Brownie!Sounds like a good Pike county buck. Our season runs into mid January,so I'm hoping to improve my doe before the season is over.
  23. Re: The Perfect Gift for Earnhardt Fans I'll have to forward that to the wife. She's been asking what I want.
  24. Re: I am back from Illinois Well,at least one of you guys got to tag a deer.Sounds like a dandy buck. The weather has been terrible here for deer hunting the last two weeks.Glad you guys had fun, sounds like a pretty good trip.
  25. Re: Family Tradition? I have been around hunting my whole life, and been hunting basically with the same friends and family for about 15 years now.My dad started deer hunting when I was about 10,and I was drawn to it right from the start.Between him and my grandpa I got to spend plenty of time in the woods and at deer camp. For me it is definately about memories and being with family and friends. My dad passed away in 1999 when he was 40,and most of my greatest memories of him are from being up at the farm.My grandpa is still going strong at the age of 78.He wouldn't miss shotgun season for anything.I'm pretty fortunate that I had people to teach me about hunting, and that I get to hunt with cousins, grandpa, and some of the nicest guys I've ever met.Our shotgun season starts Friday, and I can't wait to see the guys and throw back a few cold ones and play a few hands of poker while we sit around and shoot the bull.
