Re: crazy doe stalked me I think horst has a mistress out there....love sick doe..LOL. Has for the kill and leave it lay situation, the only part that disgust me about it is that there are plenty of prople that could really use this meat. Why wouldn't the DNR of the area donate this meat to the needy or have a game supper to raise funds for game management ??? really seems to be a waste....

Re: I\'m an old fart today. Happy Birthday !!!! Hmmm what was 28 like I can't seem to remember...LOL....Have fun

Re: passing up the iffy shot I commend both of your children on excellant decisions. And also you for teaching them that hunting isn't always about the kill...that morals and ethics and just plain enjoying the outdoors should be more than enough and the deer is just a bonus... Great job to All of you..

Re: Frustrated With Poor Hunters! I have to agree with you totally I have past up bucks this year alone do to the fact I was not 100% of the outcome of my shot. One was just recently hunting with Vtbowman I let one walk because I just wasn't comfortable with the yardage, I am in no way a slouch of a shot, and I feel in no way obligated to prove my shooting by taking a chance of wounding a deer or any other game. I don't think you wasted a tag at all and did the most humanley and moral thing a respectful hunter could possibly do. Congrats on a ethical kill..

Vermont November Rifle Season About To Begin
VermontHunter replied to VermontHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Vermont November Rifle Season About To Begin Hmmmmmm. You know now that you mention it I have never paid any attention to that fact. The doe's that I have observed this season seemed to be relaxed and not nervous. As far as scent attractant I couldn't tell you if the doe or doe's just wondered in or were attracted to the tinks I have set out. I like this question tho and like you would like to hear more from others about about this senario..... -
Re: Anyone But Gordon! Thanks for the answer Slugshooter...But I would have still put Big Ears a lap down tho... LOL

Re: Anyone But Gordon! I just can't understand how a car looses it's wheel and tire and drives all the way down pit road dragging the ground grinding up parts and still has enough to compete with cars that are not damaged. I may be wrong on this but if Kurt caused the caution how in the heck could he stay on the lead lap ???I may have missed something....and I still say go GORDON and team Hendrick..

Vermont November Rifle Season About To Begin
VermontHunter replied to VermontHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Vermont November Rifle Season About To Begin Well went out to the box blind Sunday morining way before daylight to be sure not to disturb anything that might be feeding in the fields...The reason I chose the box blind for this pictucalr day was that it was raining ( no I won't melt ) LOL. I wanted to give the woods a break do to the heavy hunting activity we had put on it in the prior days and wanted them to be somewhat fresh for Vtbowman to hunt, He does'nt get much opperatunity to go hunting and it was the only polite thing to do considering he's opened his property up to me to hunt on. I was in hope that the rain would invite the deer out to the medows to graze but this was not to be the case, darn even the wind was in my favor not that it plays a big factor hunting in a box blind but I figure every little bit helps... NO DEER, NO BIRDS, NO NOTHING.. go figure I was hoping the end this thing on my last day of vacation boy this is getting real frustrating...hope you all had better luck than me... -

Re: Cold Temps or Low pressure systems? And on the Snow.... AMEN TO THAT !!!!

Re: Cold Temps or Low pressure systems? I to live in Northern Vermont and I only stated my opinion about weather affecting the rut and said nothing about it starting the rut. Rut is predetermined by the eastrus cycle of the doe population. What I was trying to get across was that warmer temps play a part in the rut, ( FACT) when deer aquire their winters coats and temps rise they "tend" to bed during the day and continue thier rutting activities during the evening and early morning hours when the temps are cooler hence the term Nacturnal,,,,and as for whitetails in Florida they tend to rut later in the year than do whitetails in Vermont. They also go through the same type of rutting conditions. Temperature changes are temperature changes no matter where you may live. So yes I do believe temp. plays a part in the rut as in the time of day or night they chase doe. If you thought I was trying to discredit your statement and offended you I opologize this was not my intent..

Re: Carbon vs. Aluminum I started with the Easton Super Slam Aluminum shaft and after creasing most of them with tite groups they wouldn't fly right any longer so I switched to Gold Tips and haven't a problem..

Re: what expandable do you use??? I took down 2 nice deer this year using the NAP Sptfires 100gr. Both were complete pass-throughs. before some-one asks I use a Alpine Fatal Extreme bow set at 62lbs and I was 25+ yards on both deer and they didn't go 30yrds before they were down. Never tried, but heard great thing about the Rockets and the new grim reaper heads, as in most things it's all going to be trail and error until you find one that suites your liking.....Good Luck on your choice.

Re: Cold Temps or Low pressure systems? He was partialy correct on that statement....cold weather does play a part of the rut. It hightens the activity considerably than if the weather was warm, as the case here in Vermont at the moment. We haven't had a day below 45 degrees and this has slowed deer activity considerably. We usually have snow by now and frezing temps. I really do believe climates do play a part in the rut activity, but this would depend on you location, deer as most animals can adapt quickly.

Re: Lack of hunting time just getting worse and worse! UHMMMM....UHMMMMMM> I think I'll leave that one alone..you already now my views on hunting time..LOL I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. My wife considers it a break from me and never says a word about it until it come to big money.... We use to hunt together until her heart surgery which limits her activities... -

Re: Saskatchewan Whitetail Someday I will be able to afford to hunt and see Saskatchewan. I've been told of the monsters that are there and how great the scenery is. These deer sure make Vermonts seem like poodles in comparison. So I guess for now I will hhave to be happy with what I got.....But just maybe someday !!!!!
