  1. I just built a new shooting blind and would like to move it to my hunting area, but the delema is that rifle season starts in 2 weeks here in Vermont is this going to spook the deer if I do this ?? I plan to cover my blind with natural cover.. I did bowhunt this area and took a deer and this hasn't seemed to bother them they are still gobbling up the ol' apples. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
  2. Re: **The last 5 seconds**Please read** I would say you hit the nail right on the head with that one... I passed up some real great deer and had to spend a little more time in the stand but consider it well worth it. So what if all I got was a Doe it's still meat in the freezer and a clean kill and goes a long way to heard managment.
  3. Re: 10 Brand New 2004 Summit Climbers For Sale Cheap!! Dang !! saving cash always sounds good to me the green stuff is hard to get hold of.. What kind of stands and how much ??? I'm definately interested.. Get me the info PLEASE
  4. Just want to say THANKS to all of you in here for all the help you gave me being a first time bow hunter and it all payed of with the harvest of a nice doe for the freezer. I look forward to next seasons bow hunt, but for now it's a 2 week layoff and then it's to the old rifle again, and then to a new hunting adventure with a muzzel loader thats also going to a first for me and I got lucky and pulled a doe tag from our state lottery. If these 2 hunts are as successful as my bow season ( WOW thats alot of venison, I guess I'll be donating some to charity !! ) Again thanks for all the help...
  5. Re: Wooooooo Hoooooo!!! I got my bow!!! Hey ! Congrats on the new bow ... I to just recently purchased a new bow I got the Alpine Impact Extreme with all the goodies I could pack on it. Im sure it's not the price but the enjoyment that we get. HECK Im not sure it's even about the deer it's getting with the buddies and having fun.. the deer are just the bonus part of it. Again congrats and have a ball..
  6. Re: One Guy States His Mind Hmmmmm. Youngs Punks....... That's really funny since I happen to be 40 and have served in the armed forces for six years as an MP in the Army and served 6 months of this active time in Grenada. Posting a cut and paste of one mans words that he claims to be is easy enough to do. I guess if I wrote a letter to a paper claiming to be the king of a well known country makes it so. I think that a better choice of words other that the description of ( Young Punks ) on your part would have be better thought out....I may be being a little sensative but after serving my country I think I've earn a little more repect.
  7. Re: Question about the draft??? Not to intent that anyone posting in here would or woulnt go if drafted, The question is are you willing to support your country without any questions asked in her defense ?? I feel comfortable asking this due to the fact that I served her for six years as an MP in the U.S Army and 6 months of this active duty was in Grenada. And aslo my brother serving 8 years in the Air Force also seving time in tne first Gulf War. I think It's a Mute point as to who posed bring back the draft, but if you are willing to defend your country if needed. Remember this if we are sending men and women to Iraq and Afghanastan who is replacing them here state side. But again this is only a obsevation made by me and not intented to insult anyone here... And I make it well known that I support Bush as President of our great Nation that still stands Free..
  8. Re: First Bow Kill Congrats on the first Bow Kill... I to got my first Bow kill this year and will have to say it beats the heck out of rifle hunting. I like the up-close action. To many more successful Bow Hunts..
  9. Re: first time bow hunter! Being a first time BowHunter myself and with a whole summer of practice in the back yard range that happens to be premarked for yardage from 20-35 yrds. I became quite proficient with great groups at all the above yardages, but was not prepared for the first time in the old stand as the post above mentioned practice the hunting situations this is what I found out the hard way once in a stand at 15 feet it's hard to jugde distance and shot angles. I rectified the distance problem with surveyer tape by marking limbs and different yardages. The tape doesn't seem to bother the deer as long as don't touch it with bare hands to leave scent behind. As for the shot angle the only defense to that is to practice it from the hieght you going to hunt from. If I have booboed on something Im sure one of the more experinced bow hunters here will correct me they are all a great help in here. by the way I did harvest my very first whitetail doe this season with a bow. Hope this helps and good luck.
  10. Re: -Opinions Needed- Sounds to me like you have a heck of a delma there.... Hehehe.. good delma. I see your temptation though, but it seem's to me that you have answered your own question tho.. If you are having success at the old stand why pressure the deer where they feel save and comfortable. I have never had success hunting from the ground with a bow that I'm new to or with a rifle that I have never missed with. But ultimately the decission will be up to you.. GOOD LUCK
  11. I have been trying to draw a nice buck in closer to my stand with calls and apples and candy but he just stays out of range even after moving around he just seems to know when I'm there and eats the goodies after dark.. I've seen scent sticks that can be light and hung on a limb to cover human scent and intice the deer in for a closer look. The question is has anyone tried these if so do they really work or am I just adding to my problem of scent control ?? Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated... P.S. ... He will answer my game calls but just won't leave the thick stuff...
  12. Re: NAP Quickspin Vanes FlapJack, I have been using the Expedition 5575 with great results. They are low in cost and do have enough kenitic energy for a great knock-down I harvested a deer with them using a Alpine Xtreme set at 60lbs. with 100gr. NAP Spitfire Mechanical Broadheads and at 25yrds. she only went about 30yards. and dropped. GOOD LUCK !!
  13. Re: Sooooo disappointing... Be patient and persistant, you think that's bad try this one on being a first time bowhunter and putting in all the shooting time I could muster. I finally convinced my brother-in-law to let me hunt his 18 acre lot that has been posted forever. I scouted all summer and set my stand in a sweet spot and waited for the first day. I got to my stand 1 hour before daylight and waited only to look down the trail the deer have been traveling from their bedding area to see a hunter coming down it instead of the deer I have watching if that wasn't bad enough he stops right under me and lights up a cigg. At this point you all can imagine what I wanted to do !!! restraint got the better of me and left for the day to let the area settle down and returned 2 days latter to harvest my very first whitetail doe with a bow.So just when you think things are a wash be persistant and don't give in. GOOD LUCK..
  14. Re: NAP Quickspin Vanes Sorry about the avatar it is sort of obnoxtious isn't it... The posts left for me on this subject really convinced the wife... she gave approval for a second set of Gold Tips fletched with Quick Spins... What a wife I have wouldn't Ya say ???
  15. NAP Quickspin Vanes Thanks for the input guys, I would say by the response I'm getting the cost for the quickspins are justified by the performance value. I really have to be budget minded becuase of the spouse, She's the one that spent all the money on my new Alpine bow and had it set-up with all the toys and this included a dozen carbon arrows. All I had to due was put in the practice time, which was not a big deal since I had a great teacher in my father who shoots competively for PSE. He wasn't exactly pleased my wife went with the Alpine over PSE but she was dishing out the money not him. This very first ever bow hunt became a sucess with harvesting of a great Doe. I would have to contribute the success of this first bowhunt to this message board for some great post tips and suggestions THANKS GUYS AND GALS !!Don't get me wrong it wasn't easy but if it was easy where would be all the fun and I'd still be using the rifle at long range. Enough rambling thanks again for the info on the quickspins and will have to order some to try.
  16. Hi all !! I have just recently got into Bow Hunting and have become quite proficient with my Alpine Bow.My question is to all that are or have used the Quick Spin Vanes from NAP I am currently using Duravanes and Im getting good groups at 20,25 and 30 yards but would like to get better stability with the use of my spitfire broadHeads in flight. Any input would be greatly appreciated. And by the way I harvested my very first whitetail with a bow just this season and love the mild weather hunting and up close action.
