  1. Re: gold tips In this little experiment of mine I used as identical shaft to shaft properties as I could being that each manufacturer as it's own demensions and specs. What I was trying to prove to myself and aynone else that cared was that you don't always have to buy the expensive equipment to get the same results. This was in no way to discredit Easton in anyway. Easton is a top quality manufacturer and produce high quality products. I just don't make mega-bucks as I'm sure alot of us in here don't...I may have been a little crazy for doing this but I wanted to see if a shaft that cost less than half of the other shaft could perform as well, and to me it did..and for using a piece of plywood,I guess I could have used a cinderblock as well..LOL
  2. Re: MOSNTER DOWN!! Beat Ya SaskMAN! Ryan !!! Man what a deer and congrats...and as for hugging the tree man I would have needed to be chained to it to keep from falling out of it... LOL. I don't know how you kept your cool for an hour. what restraint..and again congrats on the wall hanger and keep up the great work..
  3. Re: sheds Never in the years I have been hunting have I been lucky enough to find sheds. Boy would I love to nothing like the real thing to rattle with. Maybe someday I'll get lucky..
  4. Re: Do you really hold out for the big ones? Gator, I know exactly where your coming from on this point and have to side with you and I don't even know Ya man.. I live in Vermont I challenge any one of these so called trophy hunters to come here in the short season we have and pass up on whats presented to them, they will do this only to leave every season empty handed. All I got to say is it must be real nice to live in a state where they have great deer genitics and deer management to be able to pass on deer. But for us that don't live in such states we take whats given to us and are just happy to be able to harvest an animal as great as the whitetail deer. So Gator just keep feeding the family and the heck with the rest of them....
  5. Re: gold tips Why would I shoot into Plywood ??? Well I guess it was to satisfy my own curiousity. With all the hype over carbon vs. aluminum and this one and that one stating this carbon is better than that carbon I wanted to see for myself. And as far as the dealer is conserned why would he even bring up that topic ?? Dealers will always recommend the pricer product over the value product as far as I'm concerned. And to prove a point to myself I bought a dozen expensive Easton Axis shafts and a dozen of affordable Goldtip shafts and did a test of my own and I consider the Goltip shaft as good if not better considering it didn't shatter like the expensive easton shaft did. I hope that ansewrs your question as to why I shot into plywood for a carbon shaft comparison...and for a second shot of the same shaft this was not necessary to do since you shoot and animal only once with the same shafy in that picticular hunt,so the second shot was mute...
  6. Re: Licensee Plug WOW ! I guess the hint on the hat went unheard...or was it the word FREE..LOL
  7. I also use goldtips, but use the black shafts so as far as the camo issue I can't help. Just want to let you know these shaft are sure durable and will last. I shot a 5575 expedition into a 1" thick sheet of plywood at 20yrds. with a 60# pull and it didn't even damage the shaft. Where I did the same exact thing with a Easton Axis which cost double the price and it shattered to pieces...
  8. Re: Appology letter O.k. that was way overboard !!! NOT !!! I agree with that author 100 percent as Im sure the majority of us here do... WAY TO GO....STANDING LONG IN FREEDOM DUE TO OUR BRAVE ARMED FORCES...THANKS GUYS AND GALS...
  9. Re: Do you really hold out for the big ones? I'll tell Ya coming from the the state I reside in which is Vermont I usually take what is presented to me if it is a decent deer. This Due to very poor genics in this state.I really don't think I have to worry about P&Y or B&C quality deer in this state which is really too bad. By all means I won't in anyway take out bambi but if it is a good deer and presents a good shot, I'm going to take it...
  10. Re: I have 2 options, what should I do? This is real tough choice glad I'm not in your shoes. But I think I would go on the controled hunt with the buddies they have these hunts for a purpose and help benifit your area I would donate atleast one deer to charity as I did this year for I did'nt need that much meat and others could really benifit.. but thats just my opinion..
  11. I used the spitfire tips with the goldtip 5575 carbon shafts and harvested a great deer with this combo. They fly like a dream and penitrate well..and like Sgt Will said they fly like field tips, but like all things it's all preference...
  12. Re: Licensee Plug They are way too cool.... but would be even more inviting with a free realtree hat for the rifle season tho .... LOL
  13. Re: Be one of the first... Darn !! I would of asked for is free hat.....really need one.. LOL
  14. Re: 13 year old daughter success! NOW THATS WHAT I CALL SUCCESS !! I bet you're one prous PaPa. Tell her we all say congrats !! and many more days to hunting with dad...
  15. Re: Question for the cold weather hunters RangerClay how close to NorthWest Vermont are You??? This is where VtBowman and I are from and it would seem like we would be chalenge by the same weather conditions. And are you just giving the kids the outdoor experince or are they old enough to hunt ?? Just curious...
  16. Re: 1st deer in 2 years CONGRATS !!! On the deer and on your patients...I've waited days just to see a deer, but it all pays off in the end..and I hear Ya on the adrenalin rush it happens all the time to me and it still gets to me...
  17. Re: Who has NEVER taken a deer before? I've taken several with a rifle and just tagged one for the first time with a bow this year and yet to take one with a muzzelloader hopefully this year that shall change...best of luck to all and happy and safe hunting ...
  18. Re: Just want to see what others veiws are... I say if your bold enough to trespass on someone land and leave something behind such as a stand..I say it belongs to the land owner period....I hear this all the time , but he gave me permission to be there..and I say to that if it's not in writting it never happened. If you don't want to loose property don't put it where it does'nt belong period !!!!!
  19. Re: Question for the cold weather hunters Seriously now guys......I like the idea of family hunting..and use a box blind myself with plexiglass windows and I use a product called the Portable Buddy which runs of a propane bottle this works great and doesn't emmit any oder. This can be purchased most anywhere ( Cabela's,ProBass,Amazon, and camping world ) carry them for about $80.00 this is not a bad price since these can be used camping or for power failures and a re completley portable. hope this helps !!!
  20. Re: Hunting right on the line! Ranger I hear Ya on the losing battle of trying to stop someone from hunting a certian area. All this will results in is a big headache and alot of lost sleep... I don't think VtBowmans has a problem with the line hunting as much as to where the stand was placed, since his can be clearly seen and was there prior to this picticular stand being set-up. And the assumption that people have today of hunting where they please without asking... My thought of mind is there is enough deer to go around if hunted properly.I'm glad to hear in your case that their efforts haven't hurt your hunting in anyway and I hope it gets thier goat when you bag your game despite thier effort to do otherwise.. Happy hunting and good luck
  21. Re: how good are you at long shots? I have to agree with AJ, but commend you on passing up a shot you were not comfortable with. One question tho why are you shooting 50yrds. with the standard for sighting in a rifle of that caliber being 100yrds. and more ?? My Remington 30-06 w/ 165gr. nossler ballistic tips is giving me groups of less than 1" at 200yrds. and you have a rifle that can better that... if it's a comfort zone for ya that's ok !! but I'd definately go to the range and do some long range shooting. You just might suprise yourself and what you and your setup can really do...and again congrats on the good hunting ethics and good luck...
  22. Re: Hunting right on the line! Hope you get results.. I know how hard of a decission you have to make about the stand. I know you don't want enemies. A little respect of this stands owner could have saved alot of aggrivation for both of you and wish ya luck. Keep me posted on what happens like I said I'm facing this same delema real soon but I know the person I'll be dealing with and this makes that much harder. He has a real nive four wheeler trail cut that runs right to the edge of my plot that only indicates to me that he intends to hunt this area..which I wouldn't have minded if he chipped in on the seed and sweat labor..
  23. Re: Hunting right on the line! Shawn, but it also needs to be clearly marked if place on a line boundry or border this is to settle any disputes, check to see if it is marked if not it is illeagly hung and a warden can take it down. If this what you choose to do. this will be totally your descretion.
  24. Re: Hunting right on the line! SHAWN !!! It is clearly the Law in our state of Vermont all stands and Blinds have to be marked with owners name and address along with a phone number of contact if it is place on a border line or on property other than thier own. I'm sure if you talk to Danny S. you do have a course of action.. Hope that helps ya out.... I have the same problem facing me in Franklin on my ne plot.. I can see trouble coming soon here.....
  25. Re: Shooting Blind Placement Yeah !! I hear ya on the small deer in Vermont. That's an issue we need to remedy here. Altho I took a 187 lb. 4 point with a bow this year. Back to the blind it's made of 5/8 osb. 4ftx6ft.x7ft. with plexiglass sliding windows that work real quietly and I sprayed the OSB Board with Earth scent to a point of soaking it. It really smells dirty...LOL
