  1. Well, my bow season and good luck continued this weekend. On Friday night I had this buck come by at 15 yards at the absolute last minute of shooting light. My Muzzy tipped Easton Epic flu true and he crashed 40 yards from my stand. Oklahoma lowered the bag limit to 2 bucks per year, and this make numero dos. I still can't believe I'm all tagged out. We still have about 20 management tags for does, so I'm not done in the woods yet. Couldn't be happier. I know that the Drury Boys have a "Dream Season" but this has been the season of my life! Good luck everyone.
  2. I'm not sure what you mean. Is there a secret that I don't know?
  3. Way to go! Traditional archers are the real deal. I've shot lots of fish with my recurve, but still have some practicing to do before I go after deer. Again, nice work. Very impressive.
  4. She's huge! Nice work and great shot.
  5. You learn something everyday. I'd never heard of a cactus buck before. Thanks for the link. And now that I am edjuk8ed, I'll go with Cactus buck.
  6. I just watched a couple clips online and it was really funny. The clip where he is in the deer blind was my favorite.
  7. That is awesome! Coolest I've seen.
  8. Sorry to hear that. Don't give up. I would continue to search the areas that you think he is in. Watch for buzzards too.

    decision time

I was in a similar situation last year. I had several shooters come inside of bow range but never could get a shot. It was during ML season, and if I would of had a ML it would have been game over. But I had made up my mind that I wanted to close the deal with my bow. It took several more hard days of hunting, but it finally came together. It was my first buck with a bow and the satisfaction that I had was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. I say stay with your bow!
  10. Great buck! I love those muley forks on his G2's! Welcome to the forums. What state do you hunt?
  11. Yep, this cool weather has got em stirred up a bit. I live in Norman, but I hunt in Johnston County. Yeah, I decided to do a European mount. I don't have one and I didn't like the idea of buying another cape. I didn't want to have a deer on the wall that really wasn't the deer I shot. Now, if it was a 180 class or bigger than my current best (140), I might be singing a different tune. I took him to Skulls Unlimited on Saturday and they said it should only take a month or two. Can't wait to get him back.
  12. Way to go. Good luck with that buck! I can't remember a year with this much activity so early in the season. This cold weather has been awesome!
  13. That's a fatty. Spine shots are no bueno, I've been there. Much more fun to walk up to an expired animal than it is to have to put a finishing shot on them or get out the knife and get a little "western" with em. Nice doe.
  14. That is funny. I got a "hairline" buck too! We should start a Hairline Buck Club. Who else is in?
  15. I know its different, but someone posted about seeing a similar accident a few years back.
  16. Call me Randy Travis, cause' I'm diggin up bones!!! http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4804&highlight=carbon+arrow+explode
  17. I think its real. A few years ago there was a similar post with pics of a splintered carbon arrow going though a guys hand. Maybe some one can dig up those pics? Makes my stomach turn to look at. Thanks for the post though. I forwarded to all my bowhunting buddies as a stiff reminder.
  18. I use a Rhino, 4 Wheeler or a BBB to get in and out of the woods, but I use the my Cowboy Cadillac to get my deer down the highway.
  19. Is that similar to a fork horn? Never heard 4 corn before, it made me laugh.
  20. "You had to throw out perfectly fine frozen fruit and veggies to make room for the deer head you just shot." Guilty.
  21. Deer are vocal at all times of the year. A can call will most often be of interest to younger bucks and perhaps other does this time of year. Your grunt call will probably solicit younger bucks as well. However, I did have a mature 8 point do a full on snort wheeze right in front of me this weekend. I would be careful about too much calling, especially this early in the season. But you wont know until you try. Best of luck.
  22. The wasp spray did the trick! Sprayed them on Thursday around 3 pm and I shot my buck at 8:20 am the next day. I guess that answers the question of does wasp spray scare deer? Case closed.
  23. Thanks again everyone! I'm still coming down from an mentally and physically exhausting weekend. I went though pretty much the full scale of emotions and then some. From being so excited that I arrowed an incredible deer to the sinking feeling of losing such an awesome animal. Then 2 sleepless nights and then a day I will never forget. Having my dad there with me when I found it made it that much more special. It was a day that I will never forget. Now I'm stir crazy! I've never been fortunate to take a buck this early in the season and I don't know what to do with all my extra time. I guess I better get back out there and start taking some does. We've taken 4 this year so far and we've still got 25 more doe tags to fill. Better sharpen the knife. Still haven't take Miller to the taxidermist yet. I can't decide whether to do a full shoulder mount or a European. Pros and cons to both. For now, he sits in the freezer. Good luck to all. Shoot true!
